Description
Shadow.

It is awake when you're asleep.
The encounter with the Shadow can only happen at the midnight during the total lunar eclipse.
Be careful.
Because the Shadow may overwhelm you.
It can take your light and become real...

"As all of you probably know, tonight a beautiful phenomenon will happen," Professor Choi tells the whole class. "Total lunar eclipse. The moment when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its shadow."
"This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned very closely. I will talk about shadow for today's class," he walks to his desk.
"Carl Jung once said that the beauty about the unconscious is that it is really unconscious," Professor Choi opens a powerpoint file to share with us. "According to him, there is a part of us, the entirety of the unconscious, which we refer as Shadow."
I prop my chin on hand, trying to stay awake during his lecture. His psychology class is always interesting but I'm just too sleepy to pay full attention to him like usual.
It's been days since I had a good sleep. Whenever I open my eyes in the morning, I feel even more tired than before I went to bed.
At first I thought I had insomnia but I don't remember waking up at all. I really fell asleep then why do I feel more sleepy every morning?
"For some, it's described as the dark side of human being, our sinister shadow," Professor Choi shows us a picture of a man with his shadow on the wall. "Everyone carries a shadow and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is."
I close my eyes for a moment but end up scolded by Professor Choi right away, "Min Hyunra, if you're not interested with my lecture, do I need to show you the door?"
His strict attitude of teaching is not a joke.
I stand up with an awkward grin, excusing myself by giving an alibi that I'm not feeling well. I walk to the bathroom and wash my face to refresh myself.
"Ah, seriously...," I look at my own reflection in the mirror. "Do I need to take sleeping pills tonight?"
Suddenly I notice there is someone, or something, behind me from the corner of my eyes. I quickly turn around but I'm all alone there.
"Aish, I started to imagine things!" I murmur. "I'm in a serious need of sleep."
I skip my classes and return straight to my empty house. Thankfully my father is still at work and my mother is out with her friends. I'm not ready to hear their naggings of skipping classes or lacking sleep for now.
I throw myself on the bed, without even bothering to change my clothes or else. I hug my pillow and close my eyes, hoping I can have a good sleep for twelve hours until tomorrow morning.
Hours passed and my eyes are shot open when I hear the mirror broken sound.
I sit up and rub my eyes, "W-What happened?"
Looking around, there is no one in my room. Wait, why is it so dark? I don't remember turning off the light before I slept.
Or at least that's what I think until I see the shattered mirror on the floor. Before I can think of anything, a loud noise of someone is pushed to the wall echoes in my room, "Argh!"
"How many times do I need to tell all of you?" I can hear a voice. A man. "I'll never let another Shadow takes her!"
A scary, high-pitched scream fills the room and I'm totally scared now. I gasp when I see someone just walks from the corner of my room to the window.
A shed of light from outside shines on him and, when our eyes meet, he looks as surprised as I do. He gulps, "Impossible..."
He turns to the window, looking at the moon, "Total lunar eclipse... I should be more careful..."
"W-Who...," I stammer as fear fills my mind. "Who are you?"
"Me?" he replies, still standing on his spot without moving even for an inch.
"I'm your Shadow."

My 44th title and my second attempt to write a story with the touch of fantasy.
The title is inspired by BEAST's latest comeback with "Shadow" and INFINITE's latest comeback as well, "Destiny".
