Sungmin froze, he didn’t know what to think or do. “Hey,” Kyuhyun began, a bit nervous, “Can we talk?” He asked. Sungmin looked at him with a questioning gaze, talk? About what? 

“I’m just... I don’t know, I’m sorry, is it my fault you left?” He asked. Of course, it is, you didn’t want me there in the first place. Sungmin sighed and looked away from Kyuhyun’s pleading eyes. 

“No, I left on my own terms” Sungmin replied  

“But why didn’t you tell me anything? Or anyone anything? Do you know how worried we were!” Kyuhyun asked softly, there were tears in his eyes. Sungmin was surprised. Why is he crying?

“That day, I left because I realized how much of a burden I was for you” Sungmin spoke

“What no-" Kyuhyun tried to interject 

“Look, there’s no need to lie. I heard you loud and clear. You didn’t want me in your life when we got married, and you still don’t. You know, sometimes I feel stupid because I actually believed you loved me” Sungmin paused, his own tears threatening to fall. Kyuhyun wanted to say something but he couldn’t make a sound. 

“But it’s okay, I have everything I need. I don’t need your love. I’m not some damsel in distress” He finished 

“Wait, Sungmin” Kyuhyun began, “If you heard the entire conversation then why did you leave?” 

“Why wouldn’t I have left? You declared me as a burden” Sungmin knit his eyebrows 

“You only heard half of the conversation didn’t you!” Kyuhyun's eyes widened in realization

“What? What else is there to hear? Who in their right mind would stay to hear their husband call them more horrible things? Being called a burden was enough, you want me to hear more?” Sungmin rose his voice, catching the attention of the others 

“Sungmin, no, stop, first of all, you didn’t hear the entire conversation so you jumped to conclusions and made selfish decisions based off of baseless reasons. Second of all, you didn’t hear me tell Changmin that that was how I initially felt about you.” He paused, “of course I didn’t like you, we made it very clear to one another. But somewhere along the line, you became a routine part of my life. And when you left I couldn’t help but feel like something was missing” 

Sungmin’s eyes shot wide open. His tears still streaming down his face. What? Did I misunderstand the entire situation? Kyuhyun didn’t think of me as a burden? But how do I know that Kyuhyun isn’t lying? 

“How do I know you’re not lying?” He asked directly

“I have a hard time expressing myself and an even harder time realizing my feelings. I wouldn’t be saying anything I didn’t mean.” Kyuhyun replied. “You could even ask the others, they’re here too by the way,” Kyuhyun said. Sungmin looked directly into Kyuhyun’s eyes and couldn’t find any trace of deceit. Sungmin shook his head, “it’s not necessary,” he began. Just then Haneul woke up and started crying, without thinking much Sungmin picked up the crying baby and lulled him back to sleep. Kyuhyun froze watching Sungmin hold the baby. He had totally forgotten to ask about the children. 

Sungmin, on the other hand, was thinking while trying to get Haneul to go back to sleep. Should I tell him? I mean, he did say I wasn’t a burden. And I can’t find a trace of him lying to me. It would be cruel to Haneul and Inha if I kept them away from their father. 

“Sungmin-ah, the kids...” Kyuhyun began to ask 

“They’re yours,” Sungmin said 

“What? How? Since when...” Kyuhyun's eyes widened even more 

“This isn’t the right place to talk about it,” Sungmin said placing the sleeping baby back into the stroller. “Follow me,” he said. Kyuhyun and Sungmin got up and walked in silence, side by side. To the outside world, it looked like a quiet family trip home.
