Identity Crisis

Their vehicle was sent to the valet parking as they made their way towards the reserved table. Apparently, Sooyeon had already made a reservation ahead of time without her knowing. Such a discreet woman, she thought.

Upon arriving at their table, her client excused herself as she talked to someone on her phone. Tiffany didn’t mean to eavesdrop but she overheard her saying a few things about some eagle and plans about tearing down a house. That must be one of her clients, I suppose. “Okay, okay. I’ll finish things as soon as possible. Affirmative. Yes, I understand. I do know that, of course. Don’t worry, I will”, she hears her say as SooYeon finally puts down her phone.

“Now, where were we, Miss Hwang? I’d love to order the food for you, if you don’t mind.”

“Drop the formality, just call me Tiffany. And no, not at all. Go on, knock yourself out.”

Tiffany couldn’t help but notice how beautiful her client was as she scrambled through the menu while talking to the waiter. She must be bathing in milk often. Her skin seems to be as smooth as a baby’s from what I’m seeing.. And that chin. She has that adorable dimple on her chin whenever she talks. The way her hair falls to the side whenever she would face sideways. Her hair was blonde, not naturally blonde, but it suits her. It suits her well. She would pass of as an idol without effort, if she was interested in entering the music industry. Not to mention her eyebrows, which may be as thin as thread, but they’re y as hell to me. The way she pronounces those dishes with that angelic voice of hers makes me curl my fingers and toes. It was so soothing to the ears. The unrelenting expression on her face looks so fierce. Her eyes were dark brown, onyx on dark lightings. It had a certain glimmer to it. And those lips, damn. I just want to..

Tiffany didn’t notice how long she stared at her. She realized that she stared too long when the waiter arrived with a tray full of plates and utensils. She dismissed all those thoughts as their food was served. She shouldn’t be thinking like that about her client. It’s inappropriate, she thought. She should keep things professional and set aside her feelings and personal intentions for the sake of business, for the sake of the company.. for now.

As they ate, they stole glances from one another. It was either one was chewing silently or simply just staring at a blank space.

Sooyeon would smile whenever Tiffany didn’t get to aim her spoon directly to . Tiffany had the habit of mistakenly feeding it to her cheek. Although she kept missing aim, she looked classy and did not even lose her prim and proper etiquette. In fact, anything that Tiffany did was elegant. She couldn’t help but feel butterflies whenever she would make eye contact with her. She was an amazing sight to see, she thought.

Tiffany took note of how her client would segregate the food on her plate. The meat was all on the left side, the rice was gathered at the center, and the vegetables were on the right side. She noticed how the woman would always laugh or snort and act like it’s the most normal thing ever. She was an amazing sight to see, she thought.

“Mmm, their bulgogi is great! Why haven’t I heard of this before? I have to recommend this to my friends”, she says as she sips some red wine. The client proposes a toast silently and clinks her glass unto hers.

“This place is new. I’ve only been here once or twice. It’s going to be a hit, I just know it.” Sooyeon smiles to herself.

“Have you ever thought of entering the food business? I noticed you keep your business transactions all to yourself. Unlike my company, every move we make hits the newsstands automatically.”

“I prefer to keep a very low profile.”

“Why? You’ll probably get investors and more clients once you get publicized. It’ll give a big boost to your career. Don’t you want to be recognized?” Why does she settle with making little accounts and sharing stocks? Doesn’t she know she’d be better off on other things? Tiffany was baffled by her client’s answer. She urged to dig deeper and search for more answers.

“That’s the point. I don’t want to get recognized.” The client shrugged. Not knowing what to answer next, she focused on her plate, almost empty even to the last grain of rice.

“Oh, I see.” Tiffany bit her tongue. She wanted to say more, but she felt that her guest was not welcoming towards opening up to her. Or maybe at least, not just yet.

“I’ve had a wonderful evening. Thank you so much. The papers will all be fixed for signing within a week or so”, says Tiffany as she rummages through her bag and gives a note to her client.

“Here, this is my number. Call me if you need anything. I’ll be glad to show you around here in Seoul during your stay.” Tiffany secretly hoped her client would spend more time with her. It was quite refreshing to see a young face in the business world. All her other clients were of old age, or were 10 years her senior. It was great to meet someone her age. Not to mention someone so drop-dead gorgeous. This was her subtle way of keeping in touch. If only Tiffany wasn’t the CEO and owner of a huge company, she would’ve asked the girl out in the open just like that. She knew her preferences, and she wasn’t ashamed of it. But she can’t. She knew she had to keep cool, to keep that whole authoritarian image exuding from her.

“Perfect. I was hoping you’d be free this weekend. Would you mind taking me to some sights to see here? I don’t know anyone else. You’re the first friend I have here; I know I can trust you. Well?” Sooyeon was blushing. It was as if she was asking someone out on a date, just like in high school. She wanted to cling on to Tiffany’s presence for a longer period. She intended to get closer to her future business partner.

Tiffany didn’t want to get her hopes up; she assumed that her client was just shy. She cringed upon hearing the word ‘friend’. I do hope we’d be more than that, she thought. Tiffany’s heart skipped a beat. This was her chance. She immediately nodded and grabbed her phone. She texted her personal assistant to clear her schedule for the weekend. Two cars arrived at the driveway of the restaurant. One was the white limousine, Tiffany’s ride. The other was a black Lamborghini, and in it was the client’s driver. She must have asked to be fetched from there.

“See you around.”

“Yeah, see you.”

They looked at each other and went on separate ways. As they sat on the passenger seat of their respective vehicles, they both felt something was different. On the ride home, they both closed their eyes and thought about how nice their weekend would work out.

Some weekend this would be, huh?
