Auntie Connie’s Promotion
VoicesAfter a year of living with Auntie Connie, she finally fixed the papers and I am now totally under her care. I didn’t let her adopt me though. It’s because my memories with my parents didn’t stop to linger around me. It’s been a year since the tragedy and judging from how I still refuse to speak, I still haven’t moved on.
Maybe I’ll never move on.
My train of thought was suddenly disrupted by Auntie Connie’s high-pitched squeal.
“Hun! Guess what? Auntie Connie just got promoted! Again!” she says gleefully.
I smiled back at her and she gave me a tight bear hug as a reply. I quickly reached for my sketchpad then wrote,

She gave me another bear hug then mumbled a thank you as she kissed my hair. Aunt Connie was the sweetest, no doubt. That’s why I feel lucky that she’s the one taking care of me. As a bachelorette, she always had her eye on me ever since I was a kid. Telling my parents that I’m her favorite niece and she’s the only one who was allowed to spoil me. A few years ago she had a favorable position in one of South Korea’s major television networks, KBS. Years passed and every year, she would tell my mom that she was promoted into a higher position, thus, giving her a salary increase every year.
