"Goodnight Kyuhyun."

"Goodnight Siwon."

Kyu sighed as he whispered his goodnight, because he knew that after those words it meant that the light would be switched off and they would be plunged into darkness. Kyuhyun had been scared of the dark ever since he was a child, but he would never admit this to anyone. It made him nervous, not knowing what it concealed in its inky depths.

 

Normally, he found a way to get a little light into the room, by leaving the television on or playing video games until he fell asleep from exhaustion. But Siwon liked the room to be pitch black, so all games were put away, and all television shows were turned off once the credits started showing.

There was no hiding now.

 

Kyuhyun lay on his side as he heard the older boy move to press the switch. He wished desperately that he was still rooming with Eunhyuk, the boy hadn't minded Kyu keeping the television on and playing games all night. But Zhoumi had politely asked if he could room with Eunhyuk, they were practicing the harder choreography together. Unable to say no to such a polite request, Kyu had changed to have Zhoumi's bed and Siwon was his new roommate.

 

Lying in the pitch blackness, Kyuhyun put his head under the blanket and began to hum quietly to himself to make himself feel less scared. But the soft notes turned into small whimpers as he heard a tiny creak.

He bit his lip to keep in a scream as he heard movement close to his bed.

 

"Kyu? Are you having a nightmare?"

Siwon sat on the side of the bed, and rubbed his shoulder comfortingly before he placed his arms warmly around Kyuhyun.

"Could-could you turn the light on hyung?"

 

As Siwon flicked the switch and the golden glow filled the room, he saw Kyuhyun relax in the bed and the fear slowly leave his eyes. Looking at the boy concernedly, he went to him and hugged him tightly.

"Kyuhyun, are you scared of the dark?" His voice was gentle, and he rubbed soothing circles into Kyuhyun's back as he spoke.

The boy blushed and shook his head violently. "Of course not, that would be stupid" he replied, in a gruff voice. But Siwon could hear the false bravery in the tone and he pressed a kiss to Kyu's hair.

"I don't think it's stupid to be scared of the dark Kyu."

The boy relaxed a little. "You-you don't?"

"It's not stupid at all, sometimes I don't like the dark either. Why didn't you say something? We could have kept a little light on for you."

The younger boy looked down at the blankets, and shuffled his hands in his lap. "I couldn't have said anything, you like it to be really dark and besides it would be pathetic for me to ask for a light on.."

 

Siwon slid under the blankets next to him, and hugged him gently. "You're not pathetic Kyu, it's normal to not like the dark. Would you like to keep the light on for tonight?"

Kyuhyun looked at Siwon, and hugged him tighter. "Yes thank you" he whispered.

"Goodnight Kyu, sleep well."

"Goodnight Siwon, thank you for this."

The taller boy hugged him closer, his hair. "You're welcome."

"And Siwon," Kyu whispered against his chest, "thank you for not laughing at me."

They fell asleep cuddled tightly together, the bedroom light glowing brightly.

 

The next night, Siwon walked into the room and smiled brightly at Kyuhyun. 

"Look, I got you a present" he whispered. Producing a small box from his pocket, he gave it to Kyuhyun.

The box opened to reveal a small nightlight. Plugging it into the wall, Kyu smiled at the soft blue glow. 

"Thank you Siwon" he said gratefully, hugging the taller boy.

"You're welcome, now you can sleep happily."

 

But when Kyuhyun slipped into his bed, the soft glow lighting up his features, he found himself longing for the secure embrace that Siwon had given him last night. The warm arms that had wrapped around him, and lulled him to sleep. 

So, he stood up and then slipped into Siwon's bed, the tall man jumping when he felt Kyu nuzzle against him. 

"Kyu, are you still scared? Is the light not bright enough?"

"It's perfect hyung, I-I just want to sleep with you. I mean, if you don't want to then I can go back to my bed.."

Siwon pulled him close, cuddling him against his chest. "Of course you can sleep with me Kyu, have sweet dreams."

"Goodnight Siwon."

They wrapped around each other, and Siwon pressed small sleepy kisses to Kyuhyun's hair.

 

As they closed their eyes to sleep, Kyuhyun felt the warm glow of love inside him, like the small nightlight that Siwon had bought. 

There was no need to be scared anymore.
