Unthriving Vow

Description

"She was perfectly imperfect in her life, yet imperfectly perfect in his."

Foreword

“I am and will always be near."

The words travelled like a fleeting wind; lingered in the air before they finally made a stop in her ears. The soothing sound tickled her gently; causing her to heave a small chuckle in between her tender breath. Upon hearing the words, she felt joy; but at the same time, she did not.

No matter how hard she tried, it was eminently difficult for her to embrace the warmth from the words. Once they reached her ears, they became eternally lost in a maze with no escape. Without her permission - without any clue - they were already gone. She tried to ask herself, although nothingness was all she could find. She tried to follow the steps, but darkness was all she could fetch. She wanted to embrace the warmth of the words, of the promise that was avowed concurrently. But only seconds after she heard it,

... they went away.

They went away from her fragile self, leaving her in a mess of agony. They went away, dispersing; as if they were not meant for her to embrace. They went away to a place that she could not reach. They went away that she cried on her knees, throwing things placed near, crying hysterically, begging for them to come back. She stumbled to stand back up, over and over she tried to stand by her own; but she was weaker than she already was. Over and over again she fell onto the ground. Tears burned her entire self. She only wanted the warmth; why could not she merely get what she always desired to have?

"Jung Soojung, listen." She understood; she knew. Life was not on her side. The things she desired were not on her side. What she wanted, perhaps, did not even exist. To her, life was a complete emptiness. Life, to her, was a glass full of nothing. Life was a long, complicated sorrow that never came to an end. Life, to her, was null.

"I will always be near, Jung Soojung. My words are for you to keep." Nothingness, to her, was a definite infinity. Emptiness, to her, was an immortal state of living.

“I promise to stay close; I promise I won’t leave you.” But to her, there was a vow that she saw as a source of light. To her, the vow was a song to every silence; a sun to every night.

Oh Sehun, to her, was that promising vow. He, to her, was a hope.

A hope, and nothing less.
