Dear Diary,

        Today was the first day of school. College, to be exact. Yes, my first day as a freshman in college has finally arrived. I could practically hear my mother's tears drop when I spoke to her on the phone after my classes. She sounded proud.

        The people aren't rude, but they aren't too friendly. My fellow freshmen, from what I can tell, are pretty shy. Except for one peculiar, dark haired boy in my music class. He said hello to everyone, and greeted every individual with a large smile. But... When he saw me, he said nothing. Not even a smile. I wonder...

        My father isn't getting any better. I could tell by the sound of pain-induced in the background, and the slightly worried tone in my mother's voice. I will try to visit soon.
