CHAPTER 8


The next morning I woke up, 

did the usual things that I used 

to do and went down to have my breakfast. 

“Can you call Ann? We will be late.” I said to 

the maid. “Sir, she went to school early.” The maid said.

“I see.” I said. After having my breakfast, I

drove myself to school. I was 

looking for her everywhere to apologize but I

haven’t seen her. When the bell rang, that’s the only

time I saw her. During the homeroom class, Mrs. 

Peralta announces who will be the representative for

our mr. and ms. highschool this school year.

“Okay, I have decided that James and Devon

will be our representative

for this year.” She said. “What?” I

said as I stood up from my chair. “Ma’am I don’t think this is fair.” 

I said. “We already have called your parents Mr. Reid

and they think this is as good idea.”Mrs. Peralta said.

I sat down with defeat. “They’re right. This is a good idea.” Devon

said as she winked at me which pissed me even more. 

After the class, I looked around to find Ann

but I didn’t see her. “Dude! Where are you going?”

Ryan asked. “I’m looking for Ann.” I said.

“Aren’t you tired of seeing her? 

You would see her when you wake up in the morning, 

here in school and so as you got to your home.” Bret said which pissed me.

“Is Ann the girl seated beside the vacant seat?” Devon asked.

“Yes. And she is going to be your rival.” Ryan said.

“What do you mean?” she asked confusingly. 

“She’s my fiancé.” I said. I saw her shocked face.

There was a moment of silence until she spoke. 

“I see.” She left after saying it.

“Dude, what the hell are you doing?” 

they asked. I walked out without answering them.

I looked around and saw Ann

with her eyes all red. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?” 

I asked. “Yeah I’m fine. I just scratched my eye.” 

She said though I know she was lying.

“Let’s go now to our next class?” she asked 

as she walked first. The whole morning, Ann

was quiet. When the morning class ended, we

went home. The trip going home was quiet as 

well. I noticed her thinking deeply. After wasting our

lunch, I prepared my afternoon things. When I

went to the living room to check if she was ready,

I wasn’t able to see her. I went up again and

checked her in her room. I knocked thrice but

no one answered. I decided to get in instead. 

I saw her lying in her bed with her body covered with

the comforter. “Ann? You okay?” I asked.

“I think I’m sick. Just please tell the teachers

that I can’t be in school this afternoon.” She said.

“You want me to bring you to the hospital?” I asked. 

“No thanks. Just leave now, you might be late in your

classes.” She said. “Okay” I said and left. While I

was driving to school, I was still worried of her.

When I arrived in school, the bell already rang. 

I ran to our room but I was already late. The class

went on when suddenly, a staff from the office came 

and asked me and Devon

to come with her. “What is this all about?” 

I asked. “The director would want to talk to both of you.”

The staff said. When we arrived in the office, the director 

talked to us along with other students who were participants

for the competition. He was talking about so many thing but 

I didn’t listen. After awhile we were dismissed and I

headed to our next class. I saw Devon

followed me. “What do you want?” I

asked already annoyed. She hugged me right after

I faced her. “You. I want you back.” She stated firmly. 

“Are you kidding? I’m getting married soon so stop it.” 

I said. “I don’t care.” She said. “But I do. I love Ann.” I 

said which made her move back and pulled her arms.

“You love her?” she asked. “I do.” I said. She ran away and left me. 

“Did I just say I love her?” I asked myself. 

The afternoon ended with Devon

still hurt. I went home directly to check on 

Ann. “Are you okay now?” I asked her as I 

saw her in the living room. “Yup.” She said. 

“James, can we go to the mall?” she asked.

“Yah sure.” I said. “Okay. I’ll just change for awhile.”

She said. “Okay. I will change as well.”

I said as we both went up to our rooms and change.

After changing, we drove to the mall. We went to

a coffee shop and had some coffee. “You’re just bored right?” 

I asked. “Yup.” She said. “Tomorrow’s going to be 

the competition right? Why aren’t you practicing?” 

she asked. “Why should I?” I asked her. 

“You should make your performance perfect.” She said. 

“I don’t care if we lose.” I said. There was a moment of silence. 

Finally she broke it out. “You don’t have to stay away from Devon. 

I know you love her.” she said which made me shock.

“What are you talking about?” I asked. “Don’t worry. 

This marriage thing will end soon.” She said. 

“What do you mean?” I asked confusingly. 

“Don’t worry. You’ll never get in trouble because of this.”

She said and smiled. I tried to ask

her what is her plan but she never answered. 

When we were already home, she kissed me

goodnight and ran to her room. When I 

went in my room, I touched my face where she kissed me.

I closed my eyes and recalled it once more. I opened my eyes and smiled.

“I must be really in love with her.” I said to myself and went to bed.
