The Plan

12 Dates

"Listen, guys," I said to Tiffany and Eli. "I want to talk to you about something. About Jiyong actually." Tiffany's head shot up and she almost let the book she's holding fall. "What?" she demanded. "You're not really going to talk about ending things with Ji, are you?"

"Well, sort of." I admitted. "I've been thinking about it lately you know and I've been going back and forth on it. It's driving me nuts. On the other hand, Ji is a great guy."

"As what I've been trying to tell you all along," Tiffany put it with a frown. "I know, you're right but really, where are Ji and I headed, realistically speaking?"

"Prom?" Tiffany said. "Homecoming. The Ball."

    "Right. But then what?"

Eli looked a bit confused. "Wait," he said. "You're not thinking of staying with him until you get to college and break his heart with your own bare hands?"

He sounded a bit bitter. We could not blame him though.

I took a deep breath, ignoring all the feeling I'm feeling in my stomach, trying hard not to reminisce all the moments Jiyong and I have shared together. "Ji and I need to break up."

Tiffany gasped. The book she was reading, what was it again, Beautiful Creatures, fell down to the ground. Eli looked shocked himself too.

"Jess!" Eli said. "Are you serious? You can't just simply dump him out of the blue! It'll kill him decidedly,"

"Don't worry. I'm not planning on dumping him at all," I smiled slowly as a great idea popped into my head. "I've realised it wouldn't be really nice of me to just dump him like that so let's do it in a more gentle and kinder way. I am going to make Ji to break up with me!"

"Oh Jessica Jung Sooyeon, counting on Jiyong to suddenly dump you anytime in this century? Never gonna happen," Tiffany said as she picked up her book that was on the ground.

"She's right, Jess. That guy has it bad for you!" Eli bend down to tie his shoelaces before saying, "It will never work, I'm telling you. Kwon Jiyong adores you. A lot.

"And I adore him," I sighed as they both stared at me. I know I was the one who made up the plan but that didn't have to mean that this wasn't tearing me up inside.

"Listen, guys. I wish I didn't have to this but this is the only option. We're not working out okay? I wanna be a lawyer and move back to the US but Ji, he wants to produce his own music here. We're too different. That's okay in high school but we are not going to be in high school forever. It's time for some tough choices,"

"I can think of a better idea," Tiffany put in. "Stay with Jiyong. Figure things out. Live happily ever after."

That was Tiffany for you. Hopelessly romantic. "I've already told you, that won't work," I said patiently. "How are we going to live happily ever after if I'm going to run a law firm in New York or San Francisco and Ji is running a studio right here in Seoul?"

"But you guys are so great together!" Tiffany looked as if she's going to burst in tears. "I mean, yea you both are too different but hey opposite attracts!"

"Plus, you guys barely fight and have always been happy together," Eli said.

"I know we seem happy enough now," I said. "But we'll be happier once we've moved on. And it's not like we can't stay friends or anything. In fact, I can't imagine not having ji in my life one way or another."

It was quite literally true, I mean, I can never imagine not talking to him, never hanging out together. maybe never seeing him again after graduation.

I shrugged it off. It didn't matter. Ji and I have been together for years and like everyone had been saying, Jiyong is a nice guy. I'm sure he would want to stay friends. We would still hangout next summer, going for movies and even when I get to college, he would be there like Tiffany and Eli, supporting me from distance.

"I don't know, Jess." Eli seemed dubious. "Maybe you should think about this some more."

"Yeah," Tiffany agreed. "All of this is happening way too sudden. And, don't do this if it's only gonna break your heart, and Jiyong's too."

"Guys, I'm fine. I'm going to do this alright?," I smiled weakly. "Now, I need to get my boyfriend another woman!"

Author's note: Hello, my sister told me I should re-write the first chapter because it wasn't really interesting and wasn't really good enough to attract readers. The new one is not really great as well, lol, but hopefully better. Oh right, the second chapter, maybe later today or tomorrow or the day after. Like I've said I'm not good at managing time lol :)

If you noticed, in the characters section I put Eli's name as "Eli Kim (Jung)" well, because he should be Jessica's cousin in this story and Jessica's surname is Jung so yea don't get confused. Eli is going to be Eli Jung in this story ~
