Description
Kyuhyun is in hospital after the accident.
Foreword
Heechul sat with his head in his hands, listening to the sounds of the hospital around them. Looking to his left he could see the hunched figure of Leeteuk. The older man was wiping his eyes and breathing heavily. Heechul shuffled to him and embraced the man, carefully wrapping his arms around the shaking shoulders. The leader clung to Heechul like a lifeline.
Hee whispered soothing words into his ear, empty promises that it would all be okay, that Kyuhyun would be fine.
He didn't want to think about if Kyuhyun wasn't okay, if he didn't recover.
Heechul heard a small sniffle and felt warm arms circle around his back as Donghae pressed his face against him. He patted the boy's hands and rubbed comforting patterns into the palms.
Another hour passed, and they were finally able to see him.
As they filed into the room, noone knew quite what to expect. But the sight of the maknae covered with tubes and wires, lying deathly pale, was a shock to them all.
Sungmin immediately went to the younger boy's side and took his hand, trying to talk to him.
"Kyuhyun? Kyu? It's me, Sungmin.." Min's eyes filled with tears but he made no move to brush them away. Heechul's heart broke at the sight of the strong man slowly crumbling before his eyes.
Turning to the side he saw Eunhyuk and Donghae cuddled together. Donghae was shaking and turning pale, his knuckles white as his fists clenched into Hyuk's jacket.
Lying Donghae down, Heechul watched the colour come back to him. Heechul knew that, as Donghae had lost his father recently, he was extremely sensitive.
If Kyuhyun was to die, Heechul didn't know how Hae would cope. Leaving Hae with a warm hug and a kiss and placing him in the arms of Hyuk, he left to join the leader.
Leeteuk was sobbing, his hands clenched into fists as he shook violently.
"It's all my fault Heechul, it's all my fault" he whispered to the approaching figure.
"Leeteuk, it was a car accident, it wasn't anyone's fault" the younger boy replied. "There was nothing you could have done."
"It should have been me, not him, not him.." As the leader began to rock and sob, Heechul reacted quickly and slapped him.
"Sorry hyung, but you've got to stay strong. Don't blame yourself, it was an accident. All we can do now is look after him."
Ryeowook came up behind them and sat next to Leeteuk, pressing his small face into the soft fabric of his shirt. Nuzzling the material, he asked the question that noone had dared to voice.
"Is Kyuhyun going to die, hyung?" his voice was small and thin, as if he was almost hoping not to be heard.
"Not if I can help it" said Leeteuk, cradling the younger boy and pulling him down to rest on his shoulder.
At the leader's words, the members seemed to relax more.
Leeteuk gave Heechul a thankful look for stopping his hysterical outburst earlier, and Heechul gave him an encouraging smile in return.
The hospital had kindly stated that Super Junior were welcome to stay in Kyu's room for the night if they wished, and so they lay sprawled over the sofas and beds in the room. They were squished up as there were only 4 beds, but it didn't matter. None of them wanted to sleep alone anyway.
It was Heechul's turn to sit up and watch the maknae. He studied the soft rise and fall of his chest, how he would breathe quickly at some times, and then stop for a few beats.
Heechul's stomach clenched at the sight of the younger boy in pain.
Reaching up to a standing position, Heechul tenderly kissed and caressed the smooth pale skin of his cheek. He brushed the soft wavy hair out of Kyu's eyes and sat back down to give Kyuhyun's hand a gentle squeeze.
His heart leapt out of his chest to feel a small returning squeeze. It was just a tiny quiver, but Heechul had felt it.
He began to call for Kyuhyun, saying his name over and over again. His excited calls woke the others who eagerly gathered around the bed, watching carefully.
And so all together, they held their breath as Kyuhyun's eyelids slowly fluttered open.
