Chapter 5

Delusion and Dignity

It was Saturday morning, and right when Hoya stepped through Woohyun’s door, he knew that something was up.

There Woohyun sat, in his father’s recliner, hands resting on the armrests, feet crossed at the ankle. Woohyun was a striking resemblance of his father, and that look that Woohyun was giving him gave Hoya the chills.

“W-Woohyun?” Hoya asked. “Is something wrong?”

Woohyun shot him a glare. “We need to talk.”

“About…?” Hoya was beginning to sweat. Had he done anything wrong?”

“Well, important matters,” Woohyun lifted an eyebrow, and damn, that act that he was putting up made Hoya feel oh so inferior, he hated that feeling. “Now come on, don’t just stand there…Sit down.”

“You’re an idiot, you know that, right?”

“I know,” Woohyun stubbornly nodded. “But you’re probably more insanely stupid, for what I’m going to show to you.”

“What on Earth are you talking about, Woohyun,” it wasn’t even a question, as Hoya sat himself opposite of Woohyun. “Well, alright then. Shoot. What’s got you thinking that I’m some insane idiot?”

Woohyun threw him his cell phone.

“Girlfriend my ,” Woohyun hissed under his breath.

Hoya almost didn’t understand those words until he looked down at the phone screen, and gasped.

It was him and Sunggyu. Sunggyu was laughing, his eyes nonexistent above that huge smile, and Hoya looked like he was having a great time, too. Hoya doesn’t laugh relatively often, but in that picture, Hoya looked like he found where he belonged in this world.

Woohyun’s gave a sadistic smile. “Look familiar?”

“You were spying on us,” Hoya accused. “That’s so low, man.”

“Low? I’ll tell you what’s low!” Woohyun finally snapped, shouting at the man. Hoya flinched, as Woohyun seethed out his words.

“I can’t believe you lied to me.” The last part of Woohyun’s sentence sounded broken-hearted. “I thought that I was losing you to a girl. And that was okay with me. I was going to accept that girl, because she makes you happy, and every guy deserves that kind of girl in their lives, one that just fits and makes us happy.”

Woohyun forced himself to go further, because he just cannot keep up his cold mask around Hoya, no matter how hard he tries. “But that was no girl that I saw. That was Kim ing Sunggyu, who insulted my dignity at that store a few weeks ago, and crashed my ball a few weeks before that, and ruined the dress of Lee Yoon-Shin, while I was trying to hit on her!”

Hoya winced as Woohyun spat his words at him. He said nothing, and waited for his friend to finish.

“I’m not going to lose my best friend to that idiot,” Woohyun pointed his finger for emphasis. “He’s nothing but trouble.”

“But he’s not.” Hoya said finally. He was frowning now, a flash of anger visible in his eyes.

“What?”

“He’s not,” Hoya said more firmly, loudly. “Kim Sunggyu is not ‘nothing but trouble’ and he is not an idiot.”

Woohyun groaned loudly, gripping his hair, “Can’t you see it, Hoya? Don’t you see what Kim Sunggyu is doing to our friendship?”

“He’s not doing anything.”

“Bull, he is,” Woohyun cursed under his breath. “For the past four weeks, Hoya. Four weeks. You’ve been gone because of him. What happened to our Friday nights together? You know, when we would go to a karaoke bar, and we’d sing ourselves tired, and you’d have to drag me home since I drank too much?”

Woohyun sounded as if his soul was broken in two, “What happened to being best friends? What happened to my best friend?”

Hoya looked at Woohyun carefully.

“You’re still my best friend, Woohyun.”

“We never have time together anymore,” Woohyun said. “It’s all because of Sunggyu.”

“But Sunggyu is also my friend.”

“No,” Woohyun said stubbornly. “I refuse to share that the title of ‘Hoya’s friend’ with Kim Sunggyu. Anyone but him.”

Hoya shrugged, “Woohyun, I don’t get why you’re so caught up over this. Sunggyu’s just another friend that I happen to spend time with. Do you hate him that much?”

“Believe me, I do.”

“Well,” Hoya sighed exasperatedly. “How about all three of us spend time together, then? So we all get to know each other.”

“Hell, no,” Woohyun told out flatly. “Are you crazy. No. ing. No.”

“Suit yourself, then,” Hoya shrugged, and checked his watch. “I have a meeting with my dad in fifteen minutes. So I guess I’ll be going then?”

“No,” Woohyun stared deeply at Hoya before ordering, “you have to stop seeing Sunggyu.”

“Not this again,” Hoya’s hands shot up, gripping his own hair. “You really do have jealousy tendencies, Woohyun-hyung.”

“So what if I do?” The other man stubbornly crossed his arms. “He’s stealing my own best friend away from me. I’m not going to let him.”

Hoya had to admit, sometimes Woohyun could look as cold and mean as his father, and other times he’s as clueless and innocent as a kid.

“Sunggyu’s not that bad of a person, Woohyun. I think you’ll like him, if you get to know him.”

“No way. He’s a meanie.” Yep, kid alright. “He’s a bad person.”

“Well, I just…” Hoya gave up, and sighed, “I have to go now; I’m going to be late.”

“This doesn’t end here.”

“I know. See you later.”

Woohyun was still frowning. “Later,” he dismissed.

It was when Hoya shut the door that Woohyun let go of his self-control, and grunted loudly in angry frustration.

Well, if Hoya wasn’t going to do anything, then he would have to take things into his own hands.

-

“Nam Woohyun?”

Sunggyu was very surprised, to say the least, when he was expecting Hoya at the restaurant, but Woohyun, poorly disguised in a hat, and sunglasses, came instead.

“We need to talk,” Woohyun said lowly, giving Sunggyu the shivers. He was starting to feel stares and murmurs around the two of them and the tension in the air.

“In private,” Woohyun added, glaring at the other man. He jerked his head to the back of the restaurant, motioning Sunggyu to come with him.

“I’m waiting for someone.”

“Oh, I know you’re waiting for someone,” Woohyun smirked. “Don’t worry, he won’t be coming.”

“What-” Sunggyu blurted out loudly, then stopped, as all eyes in the restaurant were on them. “What did you do to Hoya?” He hissed.

Both of them started walking towards the back.

“Oh, you mean Hoya, my best mate?” Woohyun asked, inspecting his nails, when they were finally at the back of the restaurant, where there was relatively more privacy. “Nothing. He’s just busy, he won’t be able to make it.”

“You-”

And right on cue, Sunggyu’s phone rang. A text message.

Sorry, Sunggyu. Something came up, I won’t be able to make it. But next week, yeah? –Hoya

Sunggyu growled, and Woohyun wore a smug look. “You bastard,” Sunggyu snarled.

“What? I didn’t do anything,” Woohyun gave an innocent look, and gloated internally at Sunggyu’s despair.

“Okay, what?” Sunggyu got straight to the point. “What do you want to talk to me about?”

Woohyun took a second to look at Sunggyu before saying, “Stop hanging out with Hoya.”

“What?” Sunggyu choked. “Why would I do that?”

“Because I said so.”

“Oh, so because you said so, then I am going to follow your orders?” Sunggyu was incredulous.

“Yes,” Woohyun lifted an eyebrow, nodding. “Do you know who I am?”

“I know that you’re an insufferable and arrogant jerk.”

Woohyun’s eye twitched, “I am Nam Woohyun. I can have whatever I want.” He added, “Or do I need to remind you of that shopping incident a while back?”

Sunggyu snarled, “No.”

“So you’ll agree, that I get whatever I want, and you’ll stop hanging around my best friend?”

“What! No, I meant, as in, I refuse!”

“Quite the feisty one, are you?” Woohyun yawned, and clasped his hands behind his neck.

“I’m not going to just stop hanging around with one of my best friends because you told me to.”

“Oh, so Hoya’s your best friend now?” Woohyun flared.

“That’s not what I said,” Sunggyu exclaimed. “He’s one of my best friends!”

“In just what, a course of a few weeks!” Woohyun hissed. “Well, I’ll tell you that Hoya and I were best mates since we were born.”

“So?”

“So, you don’t stand a chance,” Woohyun jabbed a finger at the other man. “Hoya is my best friend. So off.”

“And I said, that I refuse.” Sunggyu frowned, crossing his arms. “I’m not going to let you get what you want because you said so.”

“Omigosh, is that Nam Woohyun?!” A shrilly voice squealed in the corner, and both men outwardly groaned. Woohyun, because he was again being chased after by fans at the wrong moment, and Sunggyu, because Woohyun was such a jerk to even have fans.

“Please, not now,” Woohyun muttered under his breath, but it was probably just his luck that he now not only saw one girl, but a group of girls running his way, phone cameras and squeals in tow.

“You’re such a jerk.”

Woohyun groaned again, and face-palmed himself, because Sunggyu spouts the most irrelevant things (wounding his manly pride) at the worst times.

“God, Sunggyu. Run!” Before Woohyun could comprehend he pushed himself and Sunggyu into a run away from the hoard of rapid fans. “Move it!”

Sunggyu finally got the message and ran, as fast as he could, away from the paparazzi. “Why am I even running with you!” He shouted with a breath.

“Are you insane?” Woohyun panted. “If the media finds out that I was talking to some lowly idiot, I won’t get the end of it!”

“Hey!” Sunggyu took his energy to glare at Woohyun, and attempted a punch on his arm. “For your information, you came to me first!”

“And for your information, you invaded my ball first!”

“Sungjong forced me to!” Sunggyu was starting to get tired from shouting and running, and chastised himself for his lack of energy (why was Woohyun so fast?) and he forced himself to keep moving on.

“In here!” Woohyun motioned the both of them into a small discrete alleyway.

It was a tight alley, and the two of them were pressed closely together by the lack of space, but Sunggyu didn’t really care much at that point. They had stopped running, and he was still catching his breath.

Woohyun didn’t seem to notice their closeness, as he peeked out of the alleyway for any sounds of paparazzi. “I think they’re gone.”

The two of them took a moment to catch their breaths.

Sunggyu’s mind was still hazy with tire, and he wasn’t sure but he might have out for a millisecond, causing his head to fall onto Woohyun’s disgusting shoulder, but only for a millisecond.

But in that millisecond, he might have thought that Woohyun’s shoulder wasn’t as disgusting as he had previously thought. More like warm, and firm, and soothing-

“Sunggyu, are you alright?” Woohyun’s eyes showed a hint of concern. And then, there was alarm, followed by the normal layer of shielded ice in his eyes.

“Huh?” Sunggyu was still a bit dizzy, and he might have hallucinated at what he saw, but he dismissed it. “I’m fine.”

It was after that moment that the both of them sprang apart from each other, catching on to the reality of their proximity.

“I, uh,” Woohyun started, and cleared his throat. He had to get himself together. He hated Sunggyu, and Sunggyu hated him. Sunggyu was stealing away his best friend, and he was not going to let him steal away his trust, either. He is not so easy.

“Kim Sunggyu, I order you to stay away from my best friend,” Woohyun put on a firm voice. “And if you refuse, then you shall face the consequences.”

“Oh, joy,” the other man rolled his eyes. “What are you going to do, lock Hoya up in a dark little room?” Sunggyu smirked at his own humor.

Woohyun paid no heed. “You haven’t seen what I can do.”

“Oh, I’m sure,” Sunggyu put his stubborn sarcasm back on. “And you haven’t seen what I can do.”

“Is that a challenge?”

“What if it is?”

Woohyun smirked in surprised amusement. “Ah, feisty. I like it. Well, game on, Kim Sunggyu. I bet you can’t last a week until you’re begging at my doorstep to get rid of Hoya.”

“Tough chance.”

“Oh, we’ll see.”

A black limo had unexpectedly pulled up in front of the alley, and Sunggyu was vaguely wondering where it had come from, and when Woohyun had called for it (Were they in that alley for that long?) but in a second Woohyun got in the car and drove away.

…leaving Sunggyu to wonder what kind of deal he just made with Nam Woohyun.

“…Yes, we will see.”

Chapter 16: I'VE COME ACROSS THIS 2 LATE.
as much of a rollercoaster as it was 4u, it's nothing close to masterpiece. it may be hard to see, when u've invested good and bad moods into writing it; but it is a wonderfully clicheed story that u turned into a genuine addiction( at least 4 me).
idk where u r at this point in ur life, hopefully safe and living it to the fullest. if it's not a doable deed anymore, it's perfect just up 2 here, nonetheless.
it takes talent to blend such emotions into a 'fairytale' -like story of woogyu. and it's an universe very close to reality

Chapter 16: seriously doubting that woohyun can be genuine but well a new start it is then. i love this story because its developed well and your language is simply amazing. as for frequency of story updates, its totally fine i rarely ever update my stories and there are some that i have given up on so the fact that you're actually finishing this is really incredibly. you're a lot more determined than me i guess.

thanks anyways for updating this i love all the chapters and don't really mind if the ending is ty (doubt anything you write can be ty though).

Chapter 16: I'm so glad Woo have made such a good suggestion and my babies will start everything over. I like the story a lot. The way they started their relationship was a harsh one, then how Gyu fell for Woo and apparently Woo felt the same, the moment on the roof was epic, and now when Woo came looking for Gyu. It's so romantic. He'sso Iin loooove and its great. So please, make a good ending ;))

Chapter 16: Honestly Saf, I really like this story because it has a slow development and you can see Gyu's character in his words and actions. I feel like nowadays people don't really take the time to make a character nowadays. The update frequency is...yeah... but we have lives and being preoccupied isn't a bad thing.

Nam better be serious or else I'm going to punch him.

Thank you for the update you beautiful person♥
