Hoya remembered the first day he had ever given Woohyun a flower.

When he was a child, he remembered playing in the green, grassy field, sitting under the big tree as he would wait for Woohyun to come and play with him. On that day, Woohyun had rushed over, a huge grin on his face as he excitedly jumped up and down and cheered “Look, Howon, look!”

Hoya lifted his head from picking at the grass and raised an eyebrow.

“What is it, Woohyun?” he asked.

“I’ve been practicing this in front of the bathroom mirror all morning! Watch.” 

And Hoya did. He watched as Woohyun lifted his arms above his head, curving his wrists at the top, and making a throwing motion after.

Hoya only wrinkled his nose in confusion. “What was that?” 

Woohyun frowned. “Did you not see it? It’s a heart.” He did the same action again. 

“A heart?” 

“Yeah, see?” Woohyun lifted his arms again and stayed in that position, waiting as Hoya stared at the shape above his head. It took a few minutes before Hoya finally nodded his head.

“Mm, I see it now.” 

“And when I do this,” his hands moved into a throwing motion, “I’m throwing the heart to you.”

Hoya nodded again. “I see now.” 

“It’s cute, right?” Woohyun asked with a toothy grin. 

“Cute?” Hoya pursed his lips and thought for a moment. “Hmm, yeah, actually, it is pretty cute.” 

“Yes!” Woohyun smiled cheerfully and pounded a fist into the air. 

“Woohyun-ah! Time for dinner!” 

“Oh, that’s mom! Gotta go, see you tomorrow, Howon!” Woohyun waved goodbye and cheerfully made his way back home.

The next morning, as Hoya woke up in his bed, his mind couldn’t stop thinking about what Woohyun showed him the day before. He sprang up from bed and rushed in front of his mirror. He watched himself as he lifted his arms above his head, curving his hands at the top, and made a throwing motion. Hoya did it again, and again, and again, but somehow, it just didn’t look… cute. 

But when Woohyun did it, it looked cute. Was he doing it wrong? Hoya frowned and did it once more, making sure to do the exact movements he saw Woohyun doing yesterday, and again it didn’t please him. 

Hoya pouted as he made his way out into the field to wait for Woohyun, kicking the grass along the way with his hands stuffed in his pockets. He sat below the tree and waited until a familiar voice broke him from his thoughts.

“Hey!”

Hoya looked to his side, finding Woohyun leaning against the side of the tree.

“Hey.”

“Something wrong?” Woohyun noticed the slight sad tone in Hoya’s voice.

“No, not really,” Hoya lied.

Woohyun shrugged. “If you say so.” He sat next to Hoya quietly, picking at the grass, until a spot of yellow caught his attention from the corner of his eye. 

“Hey, look at that,” Woohyun pointed towards it. “It’s a flower.”

Hoya looked towards his direction. “It is?”

“Yeah.” Woohyun smiled. “Isn’t it cute?”

Cute.

Hoya immediately stood up and made his way towards the bright, yellow flower. He bent down and gripped at the stem, pulling it until the stem broke and he held the flower in between his fingers.

“Here.” He held out the flower to Woohyun.

"You’re giving it to me?”

Hoya nodded his head. “Yup. In exchange for your hearts.”

Woohyun laughed sincerely, taking the flower, and threw a heart to him. 

Hoya smiled, and it was then he made a mental note to always give Woohyun flowers.
