Charlie Hicks, a carefree English teacher from Louisiana who, after a particularly bad breakup, finds herself in the Land of the Morning Calm--Seoul to be exact. Charlie only took the job at Sejong Academy to embark on a new life adventure; at least that's what she was telling everyone else. She just had to get away from her ex-boyfriend, Marcus, the best way she knew how; fly half-way around the world. What Charlie did not count on was being the only "Oegug-in seong saeng nim" at her school who was five shades darker and five inches taller than everyone else; saying she stood out was a understatement. Charlie was certainly starting to regret her spontaneous job change--what, between the stikinging difference in her physical appearance that no one ever forgot to comment upon and the uptight, albeit y, Prinicipal of Sejong Academy Sunbae Hyun who was constantly riding her . What was a girl to do? When Charlie'd finally decided she was going to leave   Seoul and Sejong Academy behind--it was only then  she realized that the man she thought she hated most, Sunbae Hyun, was the one thing she was not able to leave.
