Save Him

Musical Oneshots: Vinseop

AN: This chapter contains implied  domestic abuse. I take this very seriously, but as I have never been in an abusive relationship, I wasn't sure on how to write this chapter out. I hope I didn't disappoint.

Song: Save him by Justin Nozuka

Warnings: One sided Vinseop. Implied abusive Elvin relationship. Contains angst. And a sad ending.

Kiseop watched in silence as the love of his life was talking to a stranger--at least the man was a stranger to him. He couldn’t help it as he watched the brunet chat happily with the blond. It hurt his heart too much and Kiseop ended up looking away. He didn’t notice the fact that the pair was walking towards him.

“Kiseop,” Kevin called as he stopped in front of Kiseop.

Kiseop looked up towards Kevin with a raised eyebrow. He was trying not to notice the blond male standing next to Kevin. Or the fact that the other had his arm wrapped around Kevin.

“I’m going to go home with Eli. So don’t wait up on me,” Kevin said with a smile.

“Okay,” Kiseop answered. He kept his face indifferent even though on the inside his heart was breaking at the thought of Kevin going with the blond, Eli.

“I’ll see you later then.” Kevin said. When he saw Kiseop nod his head, he walked away with Eli in tow.

Kiseop watched sadly as Kevin walked away.

Kiseop watched as Kevin kept on laughing and smiling with Eli. He couldn’t help the jealousy that ran in his heart as Kevin directed one of his smiles to Eli. It just hurt to see it, but if Eli was what made Kevin happy then he would deal with it. That was what best friends were there for.

Kevin kissed Eli on the lips before making his way over to Kiseop. A smile was still on his face once he sat down as he looked back to where he and Eli had stood. He was slightly sad that his boyfriend had to leave so soon, but he understood that Eli had a very busy job. He turned to his best friend with the smile still on his face.

“Hey Kiseop. How are you doing?” Kevin asked.

“I’m doing well, Kevin and you?” Kiseop asked in return.

“Absolutely fantastic,” Kevin answered which took on a dreamy tone. The tone that caused Kiseop’s heart to clench painfully in his chest. “He’s just perfect in every single way. Did you know that he also lived in America for a while before moving here?” Kevin asked. His eyes lighting up at the mere thought of Eli.

Kiseop looked down at the cup in his hands. He couldn’t stand seeing the way Kevin looked like whenever he talked about Eli. It was just too much to bear.

“No, I didn’t,” Kiseop answered monotonously.

Kevin frowned slightly at Kiseop’s tone and was about to make a comment about it, but decided against it. He knew that whatever was bothering Kiseop the other would tell him when he needed to. So Kevin continued in a different path, unaware of what was going to happen shortly after.

Eli glared at Kevin’s phone as it had been constantly ringing for the past ten minutes. He was getting annoyed with it as he knew that once Kevin was out of the shower he would text the person for who knows how long. It was frustrating because Kevin was his boyfriend, not whoever was on the other end.

Getting off of the bed, Eli picked up the phone and looked at who was texting Kevin. His eyes narrowed even more at the name he saw.

Kiseop.

Eli wanted to throw the phone across the room. Of course it was Kiseop, it was always Kiseop. Sometimes it made Eli think that he was just a substitute for Kiseop. He released a growl and dropped the phone back onto the table and sat on the bed. He had to calm down and not let his anger take over him.

After a few minutes Kevin emerged from the bathroom fully dressed and ready for bed. It was at that moment that his phone went off again and Eli couldn’t help the irritated look that took over his face as he knew who was texting Kevin. Kevin didn’t even bother turning off his phone, he just went straight to texting Kiseop.

“Can you please stop texting him,” Eli half growled.

Kevin gave him a frown. “Kiseop’s my best friend Eli. I have to text him.”

“No you don’t,” Eli said with a glare. “You make it like he’s your boyfriend when he’s not.”

“Eli, I’ve known Kiseop for almost my whole life. And besides, I can text whoever I want whenever I want.” Kevin was about to walk out of the room towards the living room, but was stopped when a large hand was placed on his shoulder. Kevin looked at Eli with the frown still on his face and was about to say something, but was cut off when a hand slapped him across the face. His head snapped to the side and he just kept his head there with eyes wide.

After a few moments had passed Kevin slowly looked at Eli with wide eyes and his hand covering the redden cheek. When he looked in Eli’s eyes he flinched.

Eli’s eyes were dark with anger and it scared Kevin. He had never seen that look on Eli ever.

“You are not allowed to text him,” Eli growled out. His eyes flashing dangerously.

At hearing Eli give him a command, Kevin felt his own anger begin to rise. He couldn’t believe that Eli was jealous of Kiseop! It was just outrageous.

“I am going to text him and there’s nothing that will change my mind.” Kevin made his way to the door, but he didn’t make it again as he was pinned to the wall.

“We’ll see about that.”

That night Kevin had prayed the hardest he ever had in his life for what was happening to him to stop.

Kevin woke up early and stumbled his way to the bathroom. His entire body hurt, but all he could think about was to get away. He needed to get away from Eli. So when Kevin looked into the mirror of the bathroom he winced from what he saw.

His face had a large bruise that covered almost half of his left cheek. Kevin didn’t even want to think about the rest of his body. He shuddered and pulled out the concealer he kept in the cabinet to cover the hickeys he would get from Eli. He applied it to the bruise and gritted his teeth at the flash of pain that went through his face.

Once the bruise was completely concealed, Kevin walked out of the bathroom and out of the bedroom. He was cautious to ensure that Eli wouldn’t wake up. Kevin didn’t even bother to close the bedroom door and only grabbed his phone, wallet, and key once he left.

As soon as he was out of the door, he dialed the only person who would be able to provide at least a little bit of comfort to him—even if the other didn’t know he was. Kevin didn’t want Kiseop to know. He didn’t want Eli to get in trouble, but he didn’t want his best friend to know the fact that Eli had actually hit him. He still loved Eli after all, even if he was scared of the other now.

Kevin pressed the talk button and brought the phone to his ear as he waited for Kiseop to answer. He made his way away from the apartment and towards the small café that Kiseop and he would always meet at. So when Kiseop answered on the second ring, he was relieved to hear the other’s voice.

“Kevin?” Kiseop answered groggily.

Kevin winced slightly at the other’s voice. He had just woken Kiseop up from the much needed sleep that the other deserved, but he needed to meet with the other.

“Hey Kiseop. I’m sorry I woke you,” Kevin apologized. “I can call again later?” Kevin didn’t realize that his last sentence came out as a question.

“No, that’s okay,” Kiseop said as a yawn erupted from the line. “I was planning on getting up anyway. So what’s up?”

Kevin could picture Kiseop rubbing the sleep from his eyes with his hand as he tried to wake up fully. “Can we hang out today?”

“Sure, but what’s the occasion?”

“Nothing, just wanted to hang out with my best friend.”

“Hmm,” Kiseop hummed. “Well, can you meet me at my apartment? I have to go take a shower and stuff.”

“Okay.”

“Just let yourself in, the door will be unlock.”

“Okay. I’ll see you in a bit. Maybe after you’ve woken up a bit more we can go get something to eat,” Kevin offered. Kevin heard Kiseop hum again. “See you soon.”

“See you soon.”

With those words the connection went dead. Kevin placed his phone back in his pocket and made a right turn to head to Kiseop’s apartment. His heart beating faster as he got closer to the male’s home. He hoped that Kiseop wouldn’t notice anything strange about him. He just wanted someone to be there for him at the moment. So when Kevin reached Kiseop’s apartment, he went straight in and sat on the couch. It was long for Kiseop to come into the room fresh out of the shower.

“Hey Vinnie,” Kiseop greeted. His voice was still a bit gruff from sleep, but not as bad as it was when Kevin had first heard it.

Kevin smiled softly as Kiseop took a seat on his left. “It’s been a while since you called me that,” Kevin said. He didn’t look at Kiseop, but he still had the smile on his face.

Kiseop blushed at the slip up he did. It was true that he hadn’t called Kevin that nickname in a while, but it was because he thought that the other hated that nickname since they’ve grown up.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to,” Kiseop apologized, but Kevin shook his head.

“No, it was pleasant.” Kevin looked at Kiseop with a smile that wasn’t as large as what it usually was.

Kiseop saw that Kevin’s smile wasn’t as big as it usually was and he did what he thought was the right thing to do at the moment. He reached up with one hand and placed it on Kevin’s left cheek. He felt Kevin flinched and a frown covered Kiseop’s face. A large dark bruise was covering the spot where the makeup had come off.

“Kevin what happened?” Kiseop asked with a serious face.

“Nothing,” Kevin answered. Though he answered it rushed that caused Kiseop to narrow his eyes slightly.

“If it’s nothing, then why are you not telling me how you got it?”

Kevin didn’t look up, but he could feel those concern eyes directed at him and it made him look at Kiseop. There were unshed tears stinging the back of his eyes and when he saw those deep, dark eyes of Kiseop, they came out.

“Kevin, what’s wrong?” Kiseop asked as he wrapped his arms around Kevin. He let the other cry as he rubbed soothing circle into Kevin’s back. “Hey, everything’s going to be alright.”

“I don’t know…” Kevin sobbed. “This was the first time he ever did something like this…”

“Who?”

“E—Eli.”

“What did he do?” Kiseop felt his heart plummet in his chest and freeze over. He prayed that the bruise Kevin had on his face didn’t come from Eli.

“He…” Kevin paused unsure of how to word what had happened last night to Kiseop. He didn’t want the other to hear what had happened. He was ashamed of it ever getting to the point where they are now.

“Is he hitting you?” Kevin stiffened in his arms and Kiseop knew that that was what had happened. “How long has this been going on?”

“It was just one time,” Kevin said weakly. “He was angry because I kept on texting you and ignoring him.”

“Kevin, I—I think you should break up with him,” Kiseop said. He knows that it’s not his place to tell Kevin what to do, but at that moment he had to. He didn’t want Kevin to be a relationship that was abusive.

“But--!”

“Kevin, I don’t want to think of the possibility of this happening again,” Kiseop said. “You know I love you, so I don’t want to see you getting hurt like this ever again.”

“I—I know, but I really do love Eli.”

Kiseop’s heart tightened painfully. He already knew that from the time they first started going out. “I know Kevin, but please put your health first.”

Kevin nodded and thanked Kiseop for always being such a great friend.

“And it’s just like I said, I love you.”

“I love you too.”

When Kiseop heard those words he wished they were true in the way his own feelings were.

When Kevin returned back to Eli’s apartment, he went at a time where he knew that the other wasn’t going to be home. He was going to be staying at Kiseop’s house until he could find another apartment—even though the other insisted on him just living there. Kevin smiled at the thought of that conversation. Kiseop had been determined to just have him live at his apartment that it was just too adorable.

And when the smile that Kiseop had shown him when he had agreed to stay until he found his own apartment was breathtaking. Kevin didn’t even know that Kiseop could smile like that and it brought butterflies to his stomach. He didn’t know why, but the past weeks had been wonderful. Kiseop was always there and so understanding. And he was too cute when he wasn’t even trying. A warm feeling entered his heart and Kevin smiled again.

Kevin opened the door to the apartment and went inside towards the hallway where the bedrooms were. He was halfway there when a voice sounded from the living room.

“And where have you been?” Eli questioned in a tone that sent chills down Kevin’s back.

“E—Eli, what are you doing home?” Kevin stuttered out. “Aren’t you supposed to be working?”

“I got fired last week.” Eli stood up and started to sway. That was when Kevin saw the bottles of alcohol next to the couch and he took a step away from the drunken male.

“You’re drunk, maybe you should lie down.”

“Ya wanna know why I got fired?” Eli inquired, ignoring what Kevin had said. “They fired me because I was always drunk when I showed up. D’ya wanna know whose fault that is? It was yours Kevin.” Eli made another advance towards Kevin. And very slowly Eli pulled out a revolver from his pants pocket. How Kevin didn’t notice it, he wasn’t sure. Maybe it was the fact that Eli was home.

“I’m sorry Eli that you lost your job, but it wasn’t my fault,” Kevin said in bravado. He tried to appear that he wasn’t afraid, but he was in actuality terrified beyond belief. He slowly made his way door, but was stopped when the revolver was pointed at him.

“I love you,” Eli said with a smile. “But I don’t like the fact that Kiseop is in love with you.”

And before Kevin could make a comment on Kiseop not being in love with him, the sound of a trigger being pulled followed by a loud gunshot stopped him. He just stood there staring at Eli who was looking at him with horror in his eyes before he ran out of the room. Kevin barely heard another gunshot firing off as he took his phone out and dialed the number he needed right now. Kevin made his way to the couch, but didn’t even make it half way. The pain that was coursing through his body finally making its way to his mind.

“Kevin?” Kiseop answered. There was a slight worry in his tone.

“H—help…”

“Kevin, where are you?!” Kiseop nearly shouted. He was panicking at the sound of Kevin’s voice. It sounded so weak.

“Eli’s.”

Kiseop’s heart froze and he quickly doubled his efforts. He ran out of his apartment, not caring if it was locked or not, he just had to reach Kevin. When he reached Eli’s apartment Kiseop ran inside. And the sight that he saw made his heart feel like it had just died. He quickly knelt down and held Kevin close to his chest—Kevin’s head nestled against his shoulder. Kevin’s eyes were closed.

“Kevin?” Kiseop called. His only hope was that Kevin wasn’t—Kiseop couldn’t even think of the word.

Kevin opened his eyes and blinked slowly at Kiseop. His eyes were slightly glazed over as he looked at Kiseop’s face.

“Kiseop?”

“I—I’m here Kevin…just hold on as I call the ambulance…” Kiseop said. He pulled out his phone and called the hospital. He heart beating faster with each passing second that Kevin was losing blood. Once the call was done, Kiseop dropped his phone and looked at Kevin. “T—they’ll be here soon.” Kiseop’s voice was cracking as he tried to keep calm for Kevin, but it wasn’t working. The tears began to fall and Kiseop just held Kevin tighter to his body. “Please don’t leave me,” Kiseop whispered brokenly.

Kevin smiled softly at Kiseop. He now understood that warm feeling he had in his chest whenever he saw Kiseop or even thought of him. He had fallen in love with the other. He had fallen in love with the one person who had always been by his side and only now he noticed it.

“I—I love you…” Kevin whispered. He looked into Kiseop’s eyes to try and convey that the love he was feeling was more than friendship and he could see that Kiseop had gotten his meaning.

The tears began to fall faster and Kiseop hugged Kevin closer to his body. His mind asking where the ambulance was and why they weren’t already there to save Kevin. “I love you too,” Kiseop whispered. “So don’t leave… We’ll make a home together a—and raise a family with two kids and a cat. The house will b—be big with a big y—yard and…“ Kiseop released a sob. “So p—please hold on. The ambulance will be here any moment.”

Kevin could picture the scene that Kiseop painted in his head—a smile forming on his lips—and he desperately wished that it would happen. Yet as each second passed, the cold and numbness spread over his entire body and darkness enveloped him. He knew that that dream would never come true. The last thing he saw was Kiseop’s beautiful face stained with tears.

Kiseop watched with horror as Kevin’s eyes drifted shut and the other had stopped breathing. His heart froze and he gently called the other’s name to wake him up, but it didn’t work. And no matter how hard Kiseop tried to call Kevin back to him or how many times he said I love you, nothing woke the other. And Kiseop cried and screamed out his anguish as he had lost the love of his life.

AN: I know where I ended was a horrible place to end, but I thought it was a good place to end considering how the song was sad and yeah. The reason that Kevin and Kiseop wasn't together in this chapter was because I couldn't see any of them in an abusive relationship. It's just too hard to see and so this came up. Sadness.

At least Kevin realized that he was in love with Kiseop all this time, even if it was too late. Maybe I'll write a continuation of this for another chapter if the next song fits.

Coming up next- Chapter 3:  Please Don't
