Why That Might Be

Description

He's like this for a reason.

'Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with it's yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on Earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.'

- Louise Erdrich.

Foreword

Prologue

He smirks to himself as he watches another one with long legs and a short skirt enters his field of view, ready to play cat and mouse.

The loud music of the club pound on his eardrums, but he's used to it. The dark lighting slashed by many strobe lights try to distort his vision, but his line of sight is still firmly on that girl who couldn't be older than twenty. She dances with her friends, also all female. She's yet to notice him.

That won't last long.

He undoes another button on his shirt and runs his hand through his hair, tousling it a little. Messy, but attractive. He downs the last of his drink and nods to the bartender after he'd muttered words of encouragement. The bartender, Onew, knows him as a regular now. A few years his senior and with a smile that has the ladies on their knees, they're the perfect players. Onew slaps his back in a friendly manner and leaves, sending a wink over his shoulder.

Jonghyun smirks again and wipes his lips as he gets up, strolling over to the girl he will have tonight, and then never see again.
