Foreword
How much longer do I have to pretend?
How much longer do I have to keep up this act?
How much longer do I have to live with this hole in my heart?
----
Youngjae took in the sight of the heavily decorated hall, bouncing happily in his seat. It was his first award ceremony of this scale and there was no denying the excitement. Their first performance on this big a stage. Their first time being surrounded by all these respected artists, sunbaes and hoobaes alike. And of course, the anticipation that B.A.P might actually take home one of those shiny statues today, though Youngjae dared not give voice to that hope (better not to jinx it!).
With an almost childlike glee, Youngjae couldn’t keep the smile off his face as he stood and bowed to the girls of SISTAR. He was sweating under the hot lights in his thick jacket and there was an indistinct buzz around him from thousands of people chattering away that almost annoyed him. Yet everything was beautiful in Youngjae’s eyes… until they landed on him.
His wide grin faltered and faded when he saw the man. 11 others were with him but Youngjae’s gaze was fixed on him and him alone. From instinct, he felt the other members rise to bow and Yongjae followed suit automatically without betraying the fact that breathing just became that much harder. Even when he bent his body, Youngjae kept his eyes on him, but the other never once returned his gaze.
Time passed this way, with Youngjae casually and discretely glancing at the man every once so often while his target just sat there, seemingly determined to thwart all of Youngjae’s attempts to get his attention. Eventually, Youngjae gave up and it wasn’t until their name was called and they were up on the stage that the man finally looked full on at Youngjae.
Why is he clapping? Why is he cheering like that for me?
Why indeed? Youngjae stood at his fullest height, clapping with all his heart and smiling his widest. Not because it was the polite thing to do or because the cameras might be on him. Not even because he respected them, though that was partly the reason.
No, Youngjae was happy and infinitely so because one amongst the 12 on stage receiving their award was one whom he had laughed and fought with. One whom he trusted and adored. One whom he believed in and loved as a brother.
One that now hated Yoo Youngjae with a vengeance.
