Foreword

Your POV

I was walking home from work one night, I stayed in school late to clean up and grade some tests. There was not a cloud in sight, there was a full moon, and the sky was full of stars. I started walking past this small restaurant and there was a young boy begging the Ajumma for some food. *Aww, that boy must be hungry. Why is he alone?* I walked up to the restaurant and went inside.

"Hello. Are you hungry? Would you like me to buy you something?" I ask the boy. He looked up at me with a smile.

"Um, I want ddukbokki." he said shyly.

"Okay, but if I buy it for you would you stay and eat with me?" I asked him.

"Okay." he said. I patted his head and turned to the ajumma behind the counter.

"Two bowls of ddukbokki with cheese please." I ordered the food and found us a table. As we waited for the food I started making small talk with the boy.

"What is your name?" I asked.

"Jongin, but people call me Kai." he said.

"Kai, why are you out here this late by yourself?" I asked a bit concerned.

"I was hungry, and I didn't have any money." Kai said.

"Where are your parents?"

"They're gone. They left." he said, looking down at his hands.

"Where did they go?" I asked curiously.

"I don't know, they just left." he said. I started to feel bad. *Why would they just leave him like that? Did they not want him anymore?* Our food came along with a side of kimchi. The ddukbokki was hot so I let it cool down a little.

"Are they coming back?" I asked

"No." he said, while staring at his big plate.

"Do you have any place to stay?" I asked, pretty much already knowing the answer.

"No." he said. He didn't seem sad anymore because he was already digging into his ddukbokki. He must've been really hungry.

"Would you like to stay with me?" I asked as I picked up my chopsticks. I didn't want to pressure him but I was hoping he would agree. I would feel guilty if I just left him in the streets all alone. He looked like he was around 10 years old, and I'm pretty sure he had no money either.

Even though I didn't plan on having any kids, I did love kids and I thought maybe if I did this then I would be doing a good deed. His mouth was full and he didn't look up so I guess he didn't hear me.

Before I started eating I got up to get us some water. I walked up to the water filter and started filling two cups. I looked back at him with a smile. *I hope I can help him. He seems like a really nice boy, why would his parents do that? How can they be so irresponsible?*

**I know he doesn't sound like a 10 year old, sorry I don't really know how they're supposed to sound.**
