Chapter Thirty Six
The Mysterious Play [Discontinued]The more they searched, the more Jieun was worried. Kai was nowhere to be found and the sun was ready to disappear.
“Kai! Kai where are you?” Jieun called for the nth time.
No responds.
“Kai! Please!”
Still nothing. Jieun was in total despair. The more she thought about bad things happening to Kai, the more guilt was eating her from the inside. Her heart ached, her head hurt, she felt weak.
“It’s all my fault,” she whimpered, holding her arms.
“Jieun…” Baekhyun said, walking behind her. He extended his arm to squeeze her shoulder but he knew that nothing could comfort her. Nothing could, except the appearance of Kai.
Kris looked at the horizon. It was painted in a beautiful orange, blending with the blue sky in a slight purple color and merging with the ground in a blood red one. It was beautiful, Kris admitted to himself, but the meaning behind this sunset was too serious for him to enjoy it. “We have to go back,” he said severely,
“But… We haven’t found Kai yet! We can’t go back without him! He’s probably out there and lost on his own!” Jieun protested,
“Jieun, we have to go back to Suho and Lay. The jungle is not safe at night. They are a lot of beasts out there that could eat us alive,” Kris said,
“But…” she started,
“Jieun. We have to go. You know Kai. He’s not a kid. He can defend himself. We’ll look for him again. Don’t worry okay?” Baekhyun gently said,
It was weird. Baekhyun always seemed to find the right words to reassure her, and somehow, she couldn’t help but obey.
“We’ll come back tomorrow,” Kris said.
Jieun nodded and stayed silent on the way back to the beach where the others were waiting for them already.
“It’s okay Jieun. We’ll find him. He shouldn’t be that far,” Tao hugged her,
“I hope so,” Jieun whimpered,
“Let’s go rest near the jungle. I think we are not that safe inside,” Kris said,
“Neither are we near the water,” Chanyeol added,
The seven of them settle on the sand right next to the jungle. The boys took turns at guarding the others while they rested, except for Suho who was still weak.
Jieun couldn’t sleep the entire time. She couldn’t help but think about Kai. Where is he? What is he doing? Is he okay? Is he looking for them too?
While Baekhyun was watching over, they heard a sudden ruffle in the bushes next to them. The boy instantly stood up, holding his sword ready toward the sound. Jieun sat straight, alarmed.
“Guys wake up,” Baekhyun whispered, “Something’s here,”
Jieun woke the boys up and they all stood their ground, putting her in the middle to protect her. She looked at the moving bushes, scared and curious at the same time. Was that an animal? A person? Would it be a little cute bunny as we see in the movies? Probably not.
The ruffle kept coming closer and Jieun’s heart was beating so fast she couldn’t hear anything else. The boys frowned and got their power ready to defend themselves, waiting for the threat to come. Closer and closer, louder and louder. The thing was right behind the bushes when it suddenly stopped and silence reigned.
Jieun’s eyes where wide opened in anticipation and she prayed for their safety. Never she would’ve thought that a tall black haired boy would immerge from those bushes, panting, sweating and exhausted. “Hey guys,” he weakly said,
“Kai? Is that you?” Baekhyun frowned as he shed light on his friend to see him better, “MAMA it is you!”
“Sorry I’m late,” the boy smiled a little,
“Oh my God Kai!” Jieun jumped and ran toward the boy to wrap her arms around his waist, “You’re here! You’re finally here! I was so scared…” she cried,
Kai held her tight, her hair gently, “Sorry I got lost,”
“I thought… I thought you were gone! It’s all my fault… I thought I lost you,” she buried her face in his torso,
“Well… I won’t deny it. You did loose me,” he said suddenly in a very low voice that didn’t seem to be his. Still that voice sounded familiar, so familiar that it was scary.
Jieun raised her head toward Kai and frowned, “Kai what’s wrong with you’re voice?”
The boy smirked at looked at her, “Oh, it’s always been like this my dear Jieun,”
Before she could react, Kai wrapped his fingers around and slammed her on a tree, tightening his grasp on her neck, strangling her. Jieun’s eyes widened in shock as she gasped for air, “K… Kai…” she managed to choke as she tried to pull his arm off her.
The other warriors, who were happy to see their brother back, got caught of guard. However it took them a quarter of a second to react and they charged toward Kai. The boy smirked and teleported himself behind them, holding her young priestess so high her feet couldn’t touch the ground.
“What the Kai?” Tao yelled,
“He’s not Kai,” Suho said as his face darkened,
“What are you doing here Yongguk?” Kris groaned.
“Oh! Just visiting,” the boy laughed before a snake of sand slowly wrapped around his leg, covering his entire body, only to fade away and uncover Yongguk’s real body, “I missed you guy”
