When Nothing Goes Right, Go Left.

Love Happens

"I'm tired of this. I can't be with you anymore. You put everyone else before me! Exactly what's important to you? Do you even know how to love?"

"I--"

"I don't want to hear it, Kibum! You're the worst!"

"I'm sorry.."

"Sorry? ......Hyung? Are you okay?" Key heard a gentle voice ask him.

Key opened his eyes to a blurry view of his best friend Taemin looking as confused as a dog in clothes. He blinked away the wet droplets & sighed.

"It was that dream again.." Key finally responded.

"The one at the beach?" Tae asked perplexed.

"The other one. The one where that girl left me."

"Oh... but hyung, you never even liked her. You can't hold it against her for leaving you.."

His voice drowned off at the end & Key knew he regretted what he said. Though he didn't really need to. He was right. Key was 20 years old & he'd never been serious about anyone before.

Everytime he tried, his heart would just go back to 13 years ago when he visited Seoul for the first time. The events of that winter never let his heart skip again.

"Omgosh! It's Kim Jonghyun!" A girl squealed.

"Ugh. Why is he coming to our class?" YoonA scuffed.

"Se Kyung, I need you for a second."

"Go away, jerk."

Those two had broken up just recently when the school found out the drama and music leaders were together. Most people thought they were the perfect match. Drama and music have always gone together and being the leaders of both made them harmony in bliss.

But their relationship was just for show. The point was to boost the departments popularities, when the school realized that, they interfered and threatened to take their titles away if they didn't end it immediately.

If you were to ask the majority of the school, it was a pretty slick plan and even though they garned some anti's along the way, their popularity rose by ten folds.

"If you don't come with me right now-"

"Dammit, Jonghyun! I'm busy, don't you see I'm looking over a script right now?"

"You have all day to do it!" There weren't many times you'd see someone getting to Jonghyun like this but apparently Se Kyung had that power.

"I'm sorry but I can't have you guys arguing in the freshmen classrooms considering either of you don't belong here. As upperclassmen, please show some respect and hande your business elsewhere."

"Wooooow. Talk about sophisticated! Whatever you say, miss class president, Im YoonA. I wouldn't want to ruin your reputation by making this ugly."

"I wouldn't want you to either. Please make your way out now." YoonA glanced at Jonghyun with a pained expression, but even though Key tried his hardest, he couldn't tell if Jonghyun even noticed, or cared for the matter. "Both of you..."

"Tch. Alright, Princess. I'm leaving. See you later, Sica!"

"Pfft. Later, Unnie!"

"So they still have bad blood, those two." Onew came in from the back door & sat next to Taemin and Key.

"Obviously!" Jessica snorted. "YoonA is Jonghyun's most precious ex girlfriend & Se Kyung unnie is the latest. It's normal for ex girlfriends to not like each other. Especially something that fresh."

"Even if you say that, Jonghyun broke up with me. As for Se Kyung, it was more real than you think. You can tell."

"That guy is incapable of feeling anything, sis!" Onew shouted, his face turning all shades of red.

"Dear Jesus." Key sighed. He really couldn't take much more of this constant gossip and from the looks of it neither could Taemin. The youngest member of the ground only ever opened his book up in front of multiple people when he was uncomfortable. It was his way out of things. "If you'll excuse me guys, Taemin and I are going to the bathroom."

"We are?"

"Hyung! You're like a girl. You always need someone to come with you!" The sound of Key's sister making a joke again was coming from behind YoonA-sshi who was just steps away from him.

"Fabulous people need a bodygaurd at all times or they'll get pumbled." Key joked back.

"Of course! Cause you're oh so fabulous with youe fashionable clothes!" She winked.

Everyone laughed at the them. To most of the school, since the Kim twins entered they've been a bit of a dynamic duo. They'd joke around a lot, make people laugh and do a lot of the same things.

But behind the jokes, not many even know what happened when we were younger. The reason they laughed so much was to make up for those times. For that winter, when they both almost left the world together.

"Alright! I'll go to the bathroom with you!"

Taemin hiccuped and the twins couldn't help but laugh. Nicole patted his head to comfort him for his not so innocent thoughts but Key couldn't help but slap him in the same spot.

"I won't go in with you, silly. I'll just come along and wait 'til you get out."

"Seriously, Taem. She may be my twin, but she's still a girl... and she's still my sister."

He gave me a shy smile and nodded. The three walked out the classroom together, barely making it half way down the hall before they heard screaming.

"I don't understand why you can't get over this. It's done! We're done!"

Jonghyun knew she was the lead actress & leader of the drama department but she really knew how to make a scene and make him look like a bad person, not that he wasn't exactly..

"Se Kyung. I love you."

"W-what are you saying? It was fake. Our relationship was fake! Don't try to change it now. We already broke up."

A crowd of people surrounded the scene, interested in what might happen next. Whether she'll win, or he would. But the answer was easy.

"It wasn't fake to me. It may have started that way, but the more time passed, the more I realized you were on my mind all the time. Everytime I saw you, I was proud you were my girlfriend. You're beautiful, inside & out. You're amazing in every way."

"When I see you, I want to touch you." Jonghyun leaned in closer, grabbed her waist and pulled her into his buff chest.

"I want to kiss you." He whispered, pecking her cheek.

"I can't control myself around you." He continued, pecking her forehead lastly.

"I'm just a fool for you."

He pulled her in for a hug and burried her face in his chest, a temporary bait so he could examin the faces of their audience. The game was played. The last piece would be in 3 seconds before game over.

"I love you too! I was so afraid to tell you.." She pulled him into a kiss and hugged him again.

The crowd cheered, humming "awe's" and "how sweet's." The look on her face was a maiden sprung again. Jonghyun had won. This was checkmate. By tomorrow, she'd be just another girl.

"Let's go somewhere more private." He whispered in her ear.

She nodded and they began walking towards the freshmen classrooms again. There was a study there no one went to anyways.

"Amazing." Key choked, breathlessly.

The voice sounded so familiar to the player, his mind could hardly wrap around it, so Jonghyun looked over and registered the nostalgic profile.

Kim Kibum. Fashionista. Quiet kid, but just as much a diva as any popular kid could be. Never held a serious relationship before. Taller than me. Fair skinned and.. fairly attractive.

Fair game.

"What's amazing?" Jonghyun asked, stopping Se Kyung in their tracks from a few steps behind him.

"The way you do that."

Jonghyun knew where the fair boy was getting at. He had just gained yet another admirer for his skills - nothing new - but he couldn't have him say it out loud.

"Meet me on the roof top in an hour, kid. We'll talk."

"Yes, Jonghyun hyung!" The taller boy replied enthusiastically, a bright smile plastered on his face.

Jjong didn't know why he wanted to talk to just another admirer. He wasn't fair game after all. He wasn't after him. He was after his skills. But it was fine. He could use a mini me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Key ended up going straight to the roof despite knowing what he was doing that could take more than just one hour. But he was determined to do this!

-Flashback-

"So he remembered you." Nicole said.

"What do you mean he remembered? We've never met officially."

"Oh nothing! So what are you planning on talking to him about?"

"I don't know. I really didn't think that through..."

"You said he was amazing, right? Because he can make a girl fall like that?" She asked, the tone in her voice too familiar to her twin brother.

"He did, he did! That is pretty amazing!" Taemin exclaimed.

"Okay. So, ask him to be your mentor."

"His mentor?!" Tae sounded just as confused as his best friend was in his mind.

Nicole sighed. The look on her face displaying just how she hated idiots. But it wasn't so much that Taemin and Key were idiots, it was more like Nicole was different. Her way of thinking was manipulatative. It's why Key liked claiming her as his sister.

"Your mentor in love. Other than that one time when we were kids, you've never been in love. You say you can't. So people tend to turn their backs on you and your popularity went down. So ask him to help you, the easier you can swoon a girl, the easier it'll be for you to reciprocate those feelings with the time you spend together." Nicole explained.

"For the first time, I think you're a genius." Key said jokingly.

"Yeah! Yeah! A genius!" Tae agreed.

"Please. You think that's genius? Just wait. I'll show you just how genius I am."

Key really didn't know what she meant that time but nonetheless, he wouldn't expect any less from her now. He waited, playing out what he would say again and again for 45 minutes until the door to the roof opened.

On time. Not something he expected.

He didn't have time to think, he just ran up to the shorter boy ans blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

"I want to be like you! I want to try falling in love! I want someone special! Please be my love coach!"

Jjong snorted and Kibum felt his face run hot. He felt stupid. Embarrassed. But he shook it off immediately. He might've been THE Kim Jonghyun but before his reputation started he was THE Kim Kibum. THE Almighty Key. Even now. some people see him as that and he was determined to win that back.

"You look serious." Jjong said through a giggle.

"I am!"

"You seem pretty confident too."

"I'm the "fashionista/diva" of the school. Of course I'm confident."

"The Almighty Key, was it?"

"Correct!"

Jjong snorted again but Key couldn't back down now. He was going to start fresh. He was going to learn.

"Why do you need a "love coach?" Because you've never been serious with anyone?" Jjong asked.

"Because I don't know how. I can't do it."

He looked at Key weird and Key couldn't explain his expression, whether it was sympathy, remorse or understanding. He just nodded.

"Okay, I'll do it. I'll be your "Love Coach." But only on one condition."

"And what's that?" Key asked sarcastically.

"You have to promise not to fall in love with me." Jonghyun said with the most serious tone the younger boy had ever heard coming from him.

He knew he was serious but he still couldn't help but burst into laughter. Everyone already knew just how full Jonghyun was of himself. He had every reason to be and no one let him forget it- but this was taking it too far. He had got to be kidding.

Gender never really mattered, the Kim family always taught him that love had no limits... But Key had never been in love. He thought he was once but he wasn't even sure he had it in himself to do it again.

"You seriously CAN'T fall in love with me."

The blonde automatically stopped laughing when he looked up and saw the sincerity on Jonghyun's face.

What exactly have you been through?

"If you can't agree-"

"I won't. Trust me. I promise I'll never fall in love with you, Kim Jonghyun."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"They're both so slow." Nicole said through the creak of the rooftop door.

"What do you mean they're slow, noona?"

Taemin was a smart boy and Cole didn't want to call him an idiot for not understanding. If even those two couldn't understand what was going on, he definitely wouldn't.

"That Kim Jonghyun guy, he's met my brother before. They actually know each other better than they think."

"I'm confused.." Taemin responded, puzzled.

"I'll tell you a secret, but you can't say anything. I want them to figure it out on their own."

"Okay!"

"Well, I guess he's trustworthy enough.." Cole thought.

"My brother told you the story, the dream he has often. Right?"

"Yeah! That's the one I thought he was having last night. About the first time he thought he cared about someone but they got separated."

"That person, the one he fell in love with, that's Jonghyun."

"W-w-what?!"

"Keep your voice down, geez! I noticed it when I first entered this school, the small boy who protected my brother and held him through the night when he almost slipped away. I couldn't forget him. Kim Jonghyun was definitely that boy."
