Where we belong

Description

*Whimpers* *whimpers*

“I know Cha… I know its cold…” the boy said as he sat underneath a bridge in the rain. He was holding the only thing that was precious to him, his pet dog Cha. He had found her in a box, saying ‘too any good home’. He had watched many people pass the box and went up to see why. He soon figured out it was because of her eyes. She was all white, had red eyes, even though one was blind she was still a happy dog. When she saw him she barked and he smiled.

“I guess… Were in the same situation, no one wants us…” he picked her up and wrapped her in his torn scarf to keep her warm.

He could relate to not being wanted because of his past. When he was born his mother died right after naming him. His father hated ever since that day. Always saying ‘Life would have been so much better if you would have died.’ At the age of 6, he had no friends or family that would approach him.

One day he had made one friend; she was hyper and cute and would always play with him. Rainy days were her favorite days to visit him. They were playing catch and the ball had slipped out of her fingers and she ran to get it. He saw a car coming at full speed, but didn’t have enough time to warn her. In the end the car had sliced her in half and the driver was killed when he crashed into the poll. He could only stand the in shock as his friend cried in tears. The last thing she said was ‘its ok Choi…’

At the age of 8, his father smoked and drank more than usually. He started beating and verbally abusing Choi even more. When he would go to school his teacher would ask where he got those scars from. He would always find an excuse for his father. On a rainy day, he came home and saw police everywhere. When they let him in the house his father’s body was being taken out. There was a note left for him on the table. The last words from his father were ‘It was your fault.’

During the funeral, none of his relatives would sit by him and help him grieve. They thought he was cursed because of all the death that happened in he’s short life. When the funeral ended he waited for someone to take him home with them. No one would; so he ended up walking back home alone in the dark. Once he got home there was a notice on the door saying ‘rent due tomorrow.’

*Sniff* Choi wiped his nose on his shoulder.

He was now 16, living on the streets or wherever he could find. He tried to get a job, but no one would hire him with only an elementary education. Now and then people would give him money. With that he would buy some food that would last them 2 days out of the week. When it was just a little bit of money, he would only buy her food.

“Hey, Cha…” he hugged her closer when she whimpered because of the thunder.

“Wouldn’t it be great if we could find a home…” the dog only wagged her tail. He smiled at her reaction. It started to get colder as the rain came down harder. He covered them both with a thin blanket he had and slowly fell asleep.
