“So, she’s a Yakshu now.” Ren told himself as he followed the nurse in the early morning to check up on Rinka. Her 24 hours were up, and so was her time of being human. The nurse only nodded as she lead him down the corridors of the halls.

Ren did feel bad for what he had done, he didn’t really know her that well and he forced himself onto her, turning her into a completely different being. He felt selfish.
“Selfish.” A cold, childish voice that belonged to a little girl, had whispered that word in his ear. He shivered and didn’t think anything of it.

“By now, her hair should be completely changed, her eyes should be lust red, and her fangs should be grown.” The nurse held her clipboard to her ribs, walking down the halls as if it was a catwalk. Ren smiled mischievously, hoping that JR would find out soon, just so he could see his reaction.

She seems very dear to him, Ren thought smirking. Too bad she won’t feel the same.
The nurse stopped in front of the same door that Ren had passed by to look for Rinka, and she set her hand on the door knob. “Alright,” she took a breath and Ren watched her as she continued, “she might attack at first, but remember, she’s under chains, so she won’t be able to do anything.”

Just open the door, hag. Ren thought biting his lip. He was anxious to see Rinka’s vampire form. If she looked like she was when she was human he craved to see what her form was as a vampire. He couldn’t imagine how gorgeous she would look. But right now, she would probably look like a cat trying to get so one million mice.

“I understand.” Ren answered, his eyes fixed on the nurse’s hand that was slowly turning the knob. The door silently creaked open, and tortuously slow for Ren. His eyes peered through the four inch crack, but Rinka was in the far end of the room. He didn’t see her yet.

Finally, the door was fully open, and both of them slowly walked in. As they were about to turn to look at Rinka, they heard footsteps approach behind them. They were slow and consistent.

“I wasn’t invited to see Rinka’s outcome.” Headmaster Kwang frowned at the both of them. Ren and the nurse slowly turned around, and gave him an apologetic look.
“I’m sorry,” Ren bowed, “I was too anxious. I won’t be selfish next time.”

“Selfish”

The headmaster smiled, and bowed back. “It’s alright.” As if it were on cue, all three turned their heads to the far end of the room. They were staring at an innocent girl, with her arms hung against the wall, her wrists grabbed by chains, her head hung down, looking at the floor. A girl with fiery red hair, smooth skin, consistent breathing; peaceful.

She was sleeping.

“This isn’t right.” The nurse’s eyes were wide, she couldn’t believe that Rinka’s outcome had been nothing.
“I thought she was supposed to have fangs, and-and—.” Ren stared at Rinka up and down, there was nothing that changed. She looked the same as she was when she first came into the room.
“Why didn’t it work?!” Ren shrieked.

“Shhh.” Both Headmaster and the nurse shushed Ren, reminding him that Rinka was sleeping. He tugged on his hair frustrated, he didn’t understand.

“I don’t know why it didn’t work.” The nurse admitted. “But it’s better that she stayed a human.” She smiled at Ren, hoping it would change his mood.
“How? If she stays human, then that’s a human who knows that all of Midnight Academy are vampires.” Ren answered in defense. This wasn’t right.

She was supposed to turn, she was supposed to be a Yakshu. She was supposed to be with him. She was supposed to despise JR. How could something that was supposed to go so smooth and perfect, like it’s supposed to be, go completely wrong?

The headmaster, however, didn’t look surprised at all. “We’ll ask the VCA when they come.” He answered. Ren let out a sarcastic laugh. “Yeah, and while you’re at it have them plan your funeral. She is a human! She isn’t supposed to know what the VCA is! She isn’t even supposed to know their name!” Ren whispered in a yelling tone.

The headmaster sighed and put a hand on Ren’s shoulder, giving him a reassuring glare.
“Ren, I know what I’m doing. Just worry about your own situations and problems, ok?” He said.
Ren eyes flicked to Rinka, then back at Headmaster, and shrugged his hand off his shoulder.

“Fine.” He mumbled.

Rinka’s eyes fluttered open, like a butterfly’s wings when they fly. The first thing she could think of was her dream. Was it really her mother? Why wasn’t she answering her? Who were those two boys that she would fall in love with? Which one was going to hurt her?

So many questions were thrown into her mind that she felt too dizzy to even think of them. She was staring at the floor now, not bothering to look up. She couldn’t hear anything for some reason.
My mother, she thought. She looks, beautiful. If that is even her.

She’s never had any dreams of her mother before, but why now? And why that dream? It wasn’t a dream, it was a nightmare. She couldn’t get any information out of it. All she knew what that one boy would end up hurting her, but that wasn’t good enough.

Where is my mom? She asked herself in her mind, even though she knew the answer. Her mother and her father looked very happy in that dream, so why wasn’t she? Was it jealousy because of that baby her mother was holding? But then again, that baby was Rinka herself.

Suddenly, Rinka’s ears popped, and she could hear the whispering of familiar people. She furrowed her eyebrows and slowly looked up. Her eyes searched the room, and she saw Headmaster, the nurse, and—

“Ren.” She gritted her teeth, looking at the boy who bit her just last night. Was it already morning?
His hair had been let loose, his eyes were staring at her back, it felt like he was staring right through her, studying her deeply.

He didn’t say anything, his expression spoke itself. He looked apologetic, yet upset. Rinka jerked her wrists forward, causing the chains to make a clashing sound against the wall, yet nothing happened again.
“Rinka calm down please.” Headmaster pleaded. He didn’t want her to overreact over something that happened and didn’t even go as it was supposed to.
“Why did you do this to me?!” She yelled at Ren, ignoring Headmaster’s orders. Ren took a step back, not saying a word.

Rinka kept jerking her wrists, hoping that somehow the chains would loosen and her wrists would be free. Free to choke his neck. “Rinka, please—.”

“Don’t tell me to calm down!” She yelled, still darting her eyes at Ren, she wanted to growl, to have her newborn fangs come in, to have her powers to kick in a rip the chains off of her wrists and for her to just slay him. But a part of her didn’t want to hurt him.

“Rinka! Just take a second to realize that you haven’t even changed!” Ren finally spoke, making her look up and down at herself, her arms ready to fall off. He’s right, she thought giving a breath. There were no fangs, she didn’t become anymore powerful, she didn’t turn into a vampire.

“H-How?” She asked confused. She wanted her father, she wanted him badly, but he wasn’t there yet. Did he know that she wasn’t going to transform? Her head started throbbing. This was too much for her.

“We don’t know.” Ren said disappointedly.
“But you’ll find out, soon enough.” Headmaster finished.
