A Winter's Wish List

Description

It’s already winter, and since the day I was born, this is my thirteenth time experiencing the winter. However, despite how many times I feel this cold zephyr slapping my body, I still can’t understand the meaning of winter. What is it, to be exact?

If you’ll ask me, winter is just a season when many woeful thoughts and bad memories are starting to sink inside my overused brain. To the bottom line, I hate winter. I hate the day when my mother suffered just to get me out of her ovary. I curse the snow, I curse the cold air, I curse everything related to the word ‘winter.’

Now, I’m sure that some of you are confused why. Let’s just say that my parents also hate winter. Why? They also hate the day I was born, the day when they made me; the cold winter night. None of them want me in the first place but just because of pity, just because of the lame sympathy for me, they keep me.

I don’t know if I should be happy that I’m still born. I don’t know if I should just drown myself in sorrow and in misery. What’s the point of being in this world where no one and nothing is appreciating you?

Sometimes, I don’t want to live in this world anymore. Yet, I should. Not just to slowly kill myself in so much abomination and hatred, but to accomplish and complete my lifetime wish list. I wouldn’t say it now; just wait when I continue the whole story. The story of my stupid life, my stupid wish list, and my stupid plans to make my parents happy and proud that they own me. So they may be confident that I’m the fruit of their mortal sin, that I, Lee Seunghyun, am their son.  I am their precious son, not only caused by their mindless accident, but by their unknown love for each other. I will prove them and to myself that winter is such a great season. I’ll prove to them that winter isn’t the season for sorrow, but the season of their love; our love as a one delightful family.

Prologue

Kiseop was walking on the snowy road; feeling so much despair after his girlfriend broke up with him. Stubbornly stomping his feet, he saw the snow pouring down from the fair sky. It was amusing for him. It was fun on how the strong wind defeated the tiny balls and made them melt, yet, it was not, because they were like him, just melted by his former girlfriend’s fallacious love.

Still walking, his hands hidden under his thick pockets, he saw a girl crying inaudibly under the snow-filled oak tree. In curiosity, Kiseop strolled to the girl and said, “Miss, are you okay? It’s very cold here,” He crouched to see the wet and messy face of the girl.

“I’m okay.” She replied while wiping her face with her hands.

“Here,” Kiseop lent her his handkerchief. She took it hesitantly and effaced her tears.

“Thank you. I need to go now,” she said and bowed to him. She then gave Kiseop back his handkerchief and tried to march away.

“Wait!” Kiseop stopped her. The girl didn’t look back and just halted. He smiled weakly and walked towards the girl. “I guess we need each other’s company.” he told her while looking blankly at the continuously sluicing snow.

The girl kept her head down. “Why? Are you hurt too?” She queried the tall boy who was busy watching the snow.

Kiseop nodded his head and looked at the girl. “I am. Too much? Painful? I don’t know.” He answered ambiguously, faking a smile.

The girl chortled. “What happened to you?” She interrogated.

Kiseop breathed in heavily. “Too painful to go back,” he replied vaguely, shoving his freezing hands inside his pocket. “What about you?” He asked back.

The girl shrugged her shoulders. “So atrocious for me to reminisce,” she answered him with the same vagueness. She then smiled hurtfully.

Kiseop made a grimace in her unpleasant remark. “You just copied my answer.” He teased, letting a playful scowl to appear in his face.

The girl let out a soft chuckle. “Before we can go to that, can I ask your name first?”

Kiseop bobbed his head and bit his bottom lip. “I’m Kiseop, and you, little girl?” He asked with the hint of sarcasm in his voice that caused him to gain a light punch from the short brunette.

“Taeyeon,” The midget, who is specifically known as Kim Taeyeon introduced herself.

Kiseop smiled and nodded his head. “Do you mind if we discuss our problems?” He asked and Taeyeon reluctantly acquiesced to him. “Oh, let’s move on in a café, I can’t take the gelidity here.” He told her while rubbing his hands together.

Taeyeon nodded. “You pay, okay?” She vexed and arched an eyebrow.

Kiseop sighed in pinprick. “We just met but I need to treat you afterwards?” He asked in irksomeness. “Tsk, just be thankful that I need you today.” he said and ambulated away. Taeyeon smiled in triumph and followed him to the café.

--

Kiseop sipped onto the hot coffee and watched the people walking through the glass doors of the shop. “Why were you crying so hopelessly earlier?” He asked, now turning his attention to the girl who was busy munching her foods.

Taeyeon sighed after hearing his question. “My boyfriend cheated on me.” She blurted out with hesitation. “Imagine—“

“No need to imagine, we’re both betrayed.” Kiseop cut her off. “How cruel can people be?” He asked no one, trying his best not to cry in front of the short girl.

Taeyeon nodded her head, relating on Kiseop was saying. “Yeah, why there's still people who are so ing heartless? Why do they need to live in this world?” Taeyeon vented her anger by looking fiercely at her smoky coffee and clenching both her fists and jaw. “You know, sometimes I wish that I never met him. Sometimes I feel ignoble to myself. I shouldn't have loved him, only if I knew that he just made me fall in love with him to just win a stupid bet… I wouldn't be hurting like this.” She spat out her anger, crying in so much despair and excruciation she was feeling.

Kiseop looked at her sympathetically. He then smirked and hugged the crying shorty. “Don’t cry. He doesn’t deserve your tears.” He comforted her while rubbing his hands on her back.

Taeyeon sniffed and let go of Kiseop’s grip. “You’re right, he doesn’t deserve my tears.” She said trying to be stalwart as long as her painful heart could.

Kiseop smiled, happy that the girl was now moving on. “I wish I was tough like you.” he remarked, knocking his fingers on the wooden table in rhythm.

The short girl looked at Kiseop in disarray. “What are you saying?” She asked, tilting her head in confusion.

“My heart is melting whenever I see her. It’s becoming warm and the big wall I putted with effort to stand, just stumble into pieces. As long as I’m trying, the more I’m hurting. Do you get me?” He stated while his tears were slowly gathering around his eyes.

Taeyeon nodded. “Maybe I’m not feeling the same way, but I completely understand you.” She said with a comforting smile formed in the corner of her lips.

Kiseop returned the same smile.

--

The two were both walking in the dark street in Seoul, still carrying a conversation about the woeful experiences they both had. Crying, smiling, and even hugging filled their trip.

After the long walk, they both reached their destination, Kiseop’s house.

They entered Kiseop’s room and continued their discussion while drinking to relieve their unbearable stress. Soon,  the alcohol they drunk slowly controlled their minds. They were temporarily out of their sanity, the alcohol had poisoned their brains.

Then, the most unwanted and sinful thing happened, they had the undesirable .

Both of them woke up with drained minds. Nothing, they couldn’t remember anything that happened that certain night. The night when they had the stupidest thing an alcohol-drunk could do. They were both clueless on how foolish they were that sinful night. They woke up , and didn't have any idea that they gave everything for that night; they were both oblivious when that horrendous thing happened.

Chapter 1: I love this! I love how you tell us the deep meaning of a relationship within a family through writing this fanfic. I love how the struggling child made his parents acknowledge him through his wish list. And, I like it, your title really relates to the story. And your story is one that people especailly a child like seunghyun can relate about. This is amazing and wonderful, hope you will right more stories.
