Foreword
She froze.
Her fingers dug deep in the hard corners of her nails. There is something wrong with this, her heart skipped anther beat, and something went wrong somewhere. It couldn’t be it. Well, not now when she needed it most.
“What did you say? I dar-” said the deep and low voice whom she mustered all of her courage to challenge.
A loud thud was heard as the box fell on his metallic table, and a few pens skidded their way and fell on to the carpeted ground.
His overpowering voice came to a sudden halt as he took a deep breath and heard for once, what the angered girl had to say.
“I’ll say this again. I may be an intern but I know what you guys did to clinch this deal”
There, she said it with a straight face.
Her heart pounded. The heat was unbearable. But it’s winter, not summer, her mind argued. One of the most beautiful winters she encountered for the past twenty years. Winters were not as exasperating as people made them to be, nothing could be more precious than having ankle deep snow as she walked. The biting cold is sure fearless at times, but that’s not a reason to hate it, it’s too strange for her to understand why people did that. Seasonal change was nowhere though, compared to the erratic change in human beings.
Shifting her feet uncomfortably as she stood, she tried to speak but words failed her. She took the letter, crushed it in her hands and tossed it into the bin as she walked out with the carton box full of belongings.
Meanwhile, heads popped out of cubicles and murmurs filled the office. She stared hard at them before making her way out.
“What a haughty little graduate who thinks so highly of herself. So what if she’s pretty? She just pretty, that’s all”
“She fears nothing- look at her attitude!”
The sliding door slammed itself shut behind her thereby blocking any possible noise.
She took a deep breath of the icy cold wind, her mind spinning in sheer joy.
So what if she lost her highly envied internship position? She couldn’t understand why either, how the school managed to offer her a place at an offshore bank when she is currently pursuing a music degree. It’s okay, there sure is something better she could find. How she ended up here.
Her feet danced to the soft crimson rays of sunshine, not aware of the tag which fell out of her box.
