Notes: Yeah, when I heard that Chen looks up to Xiumin, I came up with reasons why. I really love Xiumin and I Love Xiuchen so this works out, haha.

Role model

There are many things Chen admires in a man. Good looks, dancing skills, amiable personality, and, most of all, confidence.

As Chen strides past the practice room after lunch that day, he hears the unmistakable beat of EXO-M’s History vibrating off the walls. The door stands ajar. Curious, he peeks in.

In the middle of the wooden dance floor, Xiumin is dancing by himself, lips moving with the words. This is a rare free time (that the others are fully taking advantage of). Chen is impressed to see Xiumin’s dedication. He watches in awe of the older’s small, but lithe body move with precision and ease. With the background of blue skies and clouds, it really gives the illusion that he is dancing on air.

Suddenly, Xiumin’s foot catches his pant leg and he tumbles to the ground. Forgetting for an instant that he is supposed to be hiding, Chen instinctively moves forward to help but the older is back on his feet in no time.

“Let’s try that again,” Chen hears him mutter as he fiddles with the remote to start the song again.

Chen admires each of the other five members for something different. Luhan for his singing skills and cute looks, Kris for his leadership and swagger, Tao for his charisma, Lay for his understated talents…

But Xiumin…

To the other Korean on the Chinese team, Xiumin has it all. He can dance, is cute, and his Chinese is far better than he portrays on the TV screen. His easy-going attitude, even with all the baozi jokes, is something very admirable. But most of all, he is confident and determined to succeed.

The intro of History starts again. Xiumin is facing the door and where Chen is standing, his head bowed. Chen quietly closes the door, not wanting to disturb the older. For a split second, he swears he sees Xiumin flash him a grin.

As he walks down the hall, he can’t help a smile.

Yes, he has a lot to learn from Xiumin hyung.
