Notes: first of many! Yeah, writing this one really hit home for me. My dad always says that quote. I've been away from home for over two months in a different country so I totally can understand what the boys are feeling, which makes me love them so much more~ Anyway, hope you like it~ I love LuLay, they are sooo adorbs xD [EDIT: I changed the title since it was waaaaay too long, hahah]

In the clouds

There is only one way to describe the way Yixing enters into the room—he drifted.

Luhan, from his spot on the bed by the window, glances up from his magazine and watches the other gaze around the bedroom. His bright eyes scan the newcomer, from his dark hair—long in the front and short in the back—to his simple but stylish clothes and shoes then back up.

Everything about Luhan’s new roommate reminds the tawny-haired man of a cloud. Unhurried, soothing, yet… Luhan senses something like hidden power in the younger.

Then their eyes meet. Even though his expression is calm and blank, there is a certain wittiness about him.

Luhan grins. “Hello,” he greets him with a small wave.

A nod and a smile. “Hey,” the other replies. Even his voice is smooth, light and airy. “You must be Luhan.”

“The one and only. I already know who you are. Nice to meet you, Yixing.” He bows his head. Then he gestures at Yixing’s suitcase and a corner beside the other. “You can leave that there.”

Getting up, Luhan points, “That drawer and desk is yours.” Indicating a closet, he continues, “You can leave your clothes in there. This is my bed and that’s… Hello?”

As he was talking, the blank expression had returned to Yixing’s dark eyes while his fingers skim over the top of the smooth wooden desk. Luhan recognized the misty expression as being lost in thought.

“Um…Lay?” He attempts the other’s stage name.

No response. He tries again.

“Yixing?”

“Hmmm?” The smooth vibrating sound floats from between his lips. He blinks. “Oh sorry. I must’ve spaced out again.”

Luhan settles back down on his bed. “Happens a lot, huh?” 

Yixing nods solemnly. “I was going to be the leader of EXO – M instead of Kris, but I guess my forgetfulness doesn’t cut it for a 队长 (leader), huh?”

The older tawny-haired man shrugs. “Well, you have other good points then. As my Ma would say,” his grin widens. “‘Where there’s a weakness, there’s also a strength—you just may not have discovered it yet.’”

“You miss her.” It isn’t a question. The suddenness of it catches Luhan off guard.

“I-I…” he is at a loss for words.

Yixing expression softens. “I can tell by the way you talk about her.” He sits down on the bed across from his roommate. “How long has it been since you last saw your family?”

Luhan bows his head. “More than a year.”

The other nods his head understandingly. “How do you feel? About everything?”

“Honestly, I don’t even know what to feel now,” Luhan admits, looking down at his hands. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m happy about being a part of something as big as EXO and excited to get started, getting to know the other members, meeting the fans…” Everything bottled up in him flows out. “But, I’m scared I won’t do well or mess up somehoe, that the other members won’t like me… I just don’t know anymore.” He glances up at the other. “I’m probably not making any sense, am I?”

“No, no,” Yixing says, shaking his head. A small grin graces his lips. “I get it.”

Later, it is this side of Yixing that Luhan will come to love. This sympathetic nature that soothes his hyperness and calms him like drinking warm tea. He will love the way the younger quietly weaves into people’s hearts and effortlessly draws out the best of them. Later, he will spend hours with his roommate, sharing with the younger his thoughts and feelings. Later, Luhan will discover that, despite his flaws, Yixing understands people better than anyone and accepts them wholeheartedly.

But, for now, he can only watch as Yixing gets up from the bed. “As for getting along with the others,” he continues. “Just be natural like you were just now.”

Feeling much better, Luhan smiles at him. Yixing returns the gesture, defined features bright.

Then, as he gazes around the room again, the spaciness seems to set back in again.

After a long while, Yixing speaks again. “So…where can I leave my clothes?”

Luhan can only laugh.
