Description
In the year 2072 A.D. the United Federation of Korea is ruled under a democracy where all citizens are allowed to participate in their goverment and all inhabitants enjoy great prosperity as amongst the top tier of richest nations. With the mortality rate low, their technology one of the most advanced and its political influence high, the Korean population is amongst the happiest in the world and the country itself amongst the most powerful.
But this is just a façade, of course.
The government is cleverly run under the guise of a democratic system allowing citizens to vote for their leaders, while the real power lies with a mysterious parliament simply called "The Council." Divided into two houses, one for foreign affairs and the other for domestic, the existence of the Council remains a secret to the unsuspecting public, effectively rendering the president and his cabinet as useless, mere figureheads. And the Council's main weapon of attack?
Idols.
Called "dolls" by the Council members themselves, they are exactly what the name suggests: dolls, puppets manipulated by the government to entertain and keep the public happy and oblivious to its manipulation. It is a strategy used by the government for years without fail, having since perfected the system of idolship for five decades now. Taking advantage of children with no family members, their strategy is to take them while young and train them until they come of age, at which time they undergo a process called "The Wipe." After the procedure, they emerge as members of a shiny, new collection of pretty dolls ready for the public to admire and play with. The idols then use their popularity and influence to help carry out whatever order the Council requires them to, whether it's helping to advertise companies with special connections to the government, promoting public safety and cleanliness, or creating fake scandals to deter public attention from political corruption.
So what happens when eighteen year-old orphan Kim Taeyeon, who has trained for seven years under one of the government's multiple entertainment agencies, comes out of "The Wipe" completely wrong?
Utter. Chaos.

They were ghosts and smoke, like mist evaporating, dancing above a frozen pond in the Spring, just beginning to thaw. Her captive mind was now walking out of its dark chambers and into the warm, gently pulsating light, free. The glow from somewhere engulfed her, swam across the fields of her being, and she inhaled it like a newborn tasting life's first breath. She thought she heard music, a hauntingly beautiful melody playing across the plains of her mindscape, lilting in and out of a hazy dream, sounding like a tragedy.
Calm.
Everything is calm.
I...am calm.
“Taeyeon!”
A flash.
And then came a rush of rapidly swirling colors and blinding lights, distorted echoes and artificial screams.
Beep! Beep! Bee—
She sees white.

About the Soundtrack:
This soundtrack, which features 22 tracks in total, has a sometimes melancholic feel, especially with the classical pieces, while others have a futuristic kind of sound (for example, "Chemicals" and "MACHINE"). Another theme running through this soundtrack is the concept of resistance, or rebellion, against a strict, enslaving social structure like the one in this fic. While some songs simply bemoan this fact ("Slave"), others indulge in the act of rebellion ("Resistance"), while still others provide hope for a better future ("Lær Meg Å Kjenne," "You Will Pull Through"). It also helps that all of these songs sound good ^^
