Choose The Kindhearted Sea

Utilizing the efficient, expeditious convenience of a bullet train, your congregation arrived at your destination less than twenty minutes later. Aside from you, Suho, and two guards, everyone else would patiently wait at Suho’s exclusive residence. Just recently, you’ve found out that each prince had their own house located in their own individual territories as a birthday gift from their father. The private residence of the water guardian was perched atop of a secluded cliff side—which provided the best view of the surrounding beach, ocean, seaside rock formations, and, most important of all, the horizon. Suho’s territory was replicated straight out of a fantasy painting—a real-life beach getaway. Attractive to the eyes and pleasant to the nose, there was no signs of pollution, nor was any pollution allowed. The atmosphere was sensuous and refreshing—it rejuvenated you down to your soul. Not many Exotics were allowed access to enter Suho’s private lands, but his domain did have residents and visitors since it was a very large expanse.

Putting all that aside, you and Suho were the first to finally spend time alone together.

Your beach outfit consisted of a two-piece bathing suit partially concealed under a gossamer sundress. A flimsy shawl was draped over your shoulders and your feet were padded with flip-flops. Customary for the water prince, Suho looked natural and well-versed in being appropriately dressed for the beach, not minding that he wore a plain pair of swimming trunks, his chest bare and feet shoeless. You and your fiancé held hands as the two of you strolled along merrily, the guards trailing behind you two at a safe, unintruding distance away. Slung over your shoulder was your traveling bag since you didn’t want to carry anything in your hands.

“This place is breathtaking,” you admired, honestly breathless. You inhaled the salty-fresh air, eyelids fluttering. The sea was a marvelous, sparkly turquoise color. Smooth, spontaneous waves rolled forward to the golden sand of the beach. The sea-eroded cliffs and rock formations added to the beautiful nature-embracing effect. It was too mesmerizing.

The guardian of the Southern Sea scratched his cheek humbly then chuckled. “This place is one thing I’ll admit pride in. I visit when I can.” He led you to the water, the coolness lapping at your ankles like it was coaxing you in. “Would you like to take a swim with me?”

You perked up. “Right now?”

Suho nodded. “We have time.”

Thrilled for the chance, you stripped down to your bathing suit while Suho kindly averted his gaze elsewhere. Leaving your discarded belongings on the beach with the guards, Suho tugged you into shallow water, wadding on top of the bumpy, sloshy ground; the surface rose to your chest.

“I’m not going to drown, am I?” you joked, but wavered with uneasiness.

Your fiancé gave you a soft, reassuring smile. “Don’t fret, Princess. Here, out in the water, I’ll always protect you. Just keep holding my hand, alright?” He touched your cheek with his free hand. “And don’t worry about breathing. As long as I’m around, I’ll feed you some oxygen from the water.”

Nodding, you willingly followed Suho deeper into the sea until you had to submerge.

Like your fiancé had promised, you had no trouble breathing—it felt like you had a limitless supply of oxygen. You kept a tight grip on Suho’s hand as he did to you, helping you swim better by taking the lead. The resistance of the water wasn’t a burden to him at all as he swam effortlessly with each and kick. You imagined him soaring through air instead, but realized swimming in the sea was a much better match for him.

You were dazzled by the color and life underwater. Marine animals and plant life lived harmoniously in the sea. Halting afloat, Suho held out his hand beseechingly. As if called upon, a school of small, colorful fishes shimmied closer to inspect you two curiously. You wanted to giggle. The fishes were like adoring little pets as they greeted their master with affectionate nudges and pecks. Suho smiled at you and inclined his head at the tropical fishes. Catching his drift, you tentatively reached out, palm down. One particularly bold fish bumped its plump lips to smooch your hand as if to say, Welcome, master’s dear fiancé. You beamed in delight.

Then your eyes widened in wonder when a large, dolphin-looking animal appeared out of the blue—the fish scattering like squealing children—and bobbed its head at you two. Suho smiled at it and patted its head, the dolphin closing its black pearl eyes in content. With a little coaxing from Suho, you also patted the creature’s head, bubbling with excitement. Your fiancé pulled you closer so you and him could grasp the dolphin’s dorsal fin. The dolphin made an eking sound, shook its body like a horse shaking its mane, then surged forward to cut through the water, letting you and Suho ride along. You had no idea where it was taking you, but marveled over the slick sensation of water caressing your bare skin and the shimmer of glistening, cool colors around you. The dolphin was swimming towards the base of the sea cliffs, descending lower and lower until you spotted the mouth of an underwater cave. The water was darker down there, but flickered with a faint sheen of illumination. You entered the cave’s entrance and was led up to the surface.

You instinctively gasped for air when your head broke the surface. You swiveled from side-to-side, scanning your surroundings. The temperature was cool and the light was dim in the underwater cave. The water itself was a calm pool—its mirror-like surface reflecting bits of light throughout the hollow cavern. At first glance, the cave appeared scary, but you considered it intriguing because it was like a secret hiding place. Suho tugged you towards the flat, rocky area and hauled you up onto dry land. Your traveling companion, the dolphin, poked its head out the water, made that eking sound again, and promptly dove back underwater.

“Where are we?” you asked, amazed. Your softly-pitched voice echoed faintly in the thin, open air.

The water prince smiled handsomely, water dripping from his soaked hair. “In my hideout—where I go to think. I don’t come here often, though. I only found it over a year ago.”

You shivered when the cool air blew at your drenched form. Your fiancé instantly looked concerned and touched your arm. “Here, let me help you with that.”

Water clinging to your shivering form gathered into his palm. When he held his hand away from you, the water mimicked his movements. Suho tossed the water back into the pool, then he repeated the process for himself. There, now the both of you were dry.

You chuckled approvingly. “Very smart.”

A sense of satisfaction churned in Suho’s chest, liking how you referred to him as smart. He boldly took your hand in his and proposed, “I’ll show you around, Princess.”

The cavern was spacious and conjoined like an apartment building. The ground was flat and hard, and the edges cropped and jagged. The only visible source of light down here was the reflection from the pool. That is, until you saw a different kind of light up ahead. Curiosity overtaking you, you ducked into a different cave—dragging Suho with you—in the very back. You gasped. In the darker, damper part of the cavern, plants grew from the walls to the ceiling, every nook and cranny—glowing fluorescently like miniature blue fireballs.

“They’re kind of like the marine plants out in the sea,” Suho explained, taking in your fascinated expression. Surrounded by darkness, he loved how the plants’ neon glow brought out the shine in your eyes and the healthy complexion of your porcelain skin. “But instead, the plants live off of the water in the rock they’re adhered to. The water here has special minerals that result the glow.”

“It’s like magic,” you whispered, reaching how to touch a faintly glowing bud. The satin-like petals were moist and glossy under your fingertips.

“Here,” said the water prince. He plucked a fully blossomed flower and placed it in your hands. The dim illumination made it hard to detect his blush. “I guess this is another thing that makes me proud,” he admitted bashfully. “Harboring the only kind of flowers Yixing can’t grow or have.”

“Joonmyun...thank you...” you gently said, cupping the proffered blossom to your chest.

His face heated up when you leaned forward to kiss his cheek gratifyingly. Your breath tickled his sensitive skin. “I’m honored that you showed me this place...Joonie.”

“I-I’m honored that y-you accompanied me!” he blubbered, flustered that his real name (and not to mention his nickname) sounded incredibly silky from your lips. He abruptly bowed his head. “I hope that you’ll come here with me again!”

“I wouldn’t dare miss the chance,” you agreed. But, in the back of your mind, you thought, That is...if they’re any more chances in the future.

...

In Suho’s private residence...

Luhan huffed out a harsh breath as he sulked, staring ruefully out the window. The view was great—a beautiful cliff side overlooking a golden beach and sapphire ocean—but it didn’t appease him.

“Can you stop that?” Yifan griped at him from the neighboring couch, glimpsing up from his novel. “That was the hundredth time you did that.”

Luhan involuntarily huffed again before grumbling, “Stop what?”

Yifan flicked a finger at him. “That.” The flight prince sighed exasperatedly and ruffled his hair, tossing his book aside on a corner table. “Look, don’t mope, don’t sigh, don’t grouch. We all deserve our own time with her—and right now it’s Suho’s turn. So be patient and give them that.” He leaned back into his seat, mumbling, “I bet Aris will sense your bitterness when she returns.”

“I’m NOT bitter!” snapped the doe-eyed boy. Unknowingly, his anger fueled his power—items beginning to levitate in the air. Books...a mug...a small flower pot...

“Luhan,” warned his commanding brother in a low voice.

The telekinesis prince blinked, then all the items respectively dropped back down into their original spots. Luhan pouted. “Fine, fine. Just another hour at least, then we’re off to Kyungsoo’s mountains...”

The flight prince pursed his lips into a thin line, musing, “Hmm...I really don’t like waiting for my turn either...” A crease dented his smooth forehead. “But we all promised to be fair when it came to Aris, so I have to control myself...”

Luhan rested his chin on his arms and wistfully gazed out the window again. He blew a raspberry. “I miss you, Aris...”

...

Suho and you spent about fifteen minutes exploring his secret cave and chatting about random topics until he decided it was the perfect time to go swimming again. Returning to the sea, the water prince introduced you to the underwater environment—the sea creatures, the foreign plants, the coral reef, the seafloor itself. Seeing how you needed a break, Suho and you relaxed on an isolated sand bar surrounded by lapping waves. Spread out on the sand before you was your collection of shells, sand dollars, sea glass, and the magic-like flower. Your fiancé could easily tell how you loved trinkets like these and warmly smiled at your pleased expression worn on your angelic face.

“I love these so much!” You laughed and inspected a sand dollar. “So cute!”

“You know...” Suho began slowly. “If you choose me as your husband...all of this could be yours.” To emphasize his point, he swept out an arm, indicating the sea, the ocean, the blue. Sure the ocean looked like a never-ending sheet of blue from above, but underneath held wonders.

You softened, looking at the guardian of the ocean blue. “Suho...I know. But I think it’s best that I don’t choose a husband so early in our engagement—especially when my feelings are...uncertain.”

Always the attentive listener, Suho nodded, not pressuring you any further. “Of course, Princess. I just wanted you to know.” He stood up, brushing off his sand-littered swim trunks. “Shall we head back?” he inquired.

You nodded and gathered your trinkets, safely pocketing them. Suho offered a hand gentlementally, but when you grasped his hand so he could pull you up, you also leaned forward to peck his cheek again. This time, under the vibrant sun, you could clearly spot the flush of pink cheeks.

“But honestly, Suho,” you whispered, your nose almost touching his, “thank you for everything. You really would make a...romantic husband.” You grinned inwardly.

Your words had the effect you wanted. He pinched the ridge of his nose and groaned, “You make me blush more than Mother.”

You laughed sweetly. Together, the two of you hit the waters once again.

I’ll give you anything and everything...if you promise your whole world in return.
