Amira Lee kept her gaze on her shoes as she walked the cold path that would lead her home. The streets were terribly crowded, but for someone as small as the female in question, weaving her way through the fray—even lost in her own thoughts as she was now—was never a problem. That said; imagine Amira’s surprise when she falls on her bottom from a sudden collision with a warm body.

                “Are you alright?”

The girl lifted her eyes to see two young men, one fair skinned with a cute face, the other tanned with a gentle smile. Amira looked from the latter’s outstretched hand before her, to his face, and back again. She rose without his help and performed a 90˚ angle bow,

                “Please excuse me,” With that soft apology, the girl continued on her way. The crowed thinned soon after the collision, and so she allowed herself a more forgiving pace. The locket she pulled out of her shirt seemed too large in her small hands, filling up her entire palm as she studied the engravings.  She had just been about to attempt to open it when her phone vibrated, tickling her because of its position and making her jump. It had been doing this all day, and yet only now did Amira allow herself to check it. The fifteen messages displayed triggered the first ounce of emotion she had shown in as long as a year: A bitter smile.

The first message was from her cousin: “Happy Birthday Unnie!”
