The curtains were swiftly pulled shut every evening at sunset. It wasn't safe to keep them open once the sun went down. People could not be allowed to look inside under any circumstances, not if they wanted to keep living in their chosen location. He and his companions all understood that very well. They had slipped up a few times in other locations, and the results had never been good. Now all they hoped for was to avoid it happening again.

He sat, watching the television screen with dead eyes, not really seeing anything. He hated this. He hated being forced to sit and do nothing, just like his friends. Checking the clock, it seemed late enough for what he wanted to do, so he rose from the couch, retreating to the room he shared with one of his friends. Grabbing a hooded-sweatshirt, he pulled it on, covering his head as he headed for the hallway. Unlocking the front door to the apartment, he peered around the hallway cautiously before slinking off down the hall to his destination: the building's roof.
