Part 1

Fated To Love You (oneshot)

“Bye Oppa!” Lee Yoohee hollered as she slipped on her shoes and opened the door to leave. “I’m off to work!”

“Wait!” Donghae screamed as he ran towards his little sister. He slammed the door shut and took her by the shoulders. She looked up at him, worried.

“Don’t forget your coat!” Donghae said with a smile. Yoohee rolled her eyes.

Donghae was the type of brother who worried about every little thing. Ever since their parents died, Donghae took over the responsibility. He worked as hard as he could to provide for his sister, and he wanted nothing more than to protect her. This need to protect his sister never outgrew him. Even though Yoohee had grown into a respectable and independent woman with a well paying job, Donghae refused to leave her out of his sight.

“Aigoo Oppa. You don’t have to worry about me.” Yoohee pouted as she reluctantly put on her coat.

“What are you talking about? Where would you be without me?” the older brother chuckled as he playfully ruffled his sister’s hair.

“Well, I’ll see you later!” Yoohee called out happily as she ran out the door.

“Okay. Take care!” Donghae yelled as he waved at his sister and watched her disappear around the corner.

Yoohee was running late for work when her phone rang.

“Hello?” she answered.

“Doctor Lee?” the voice on the other end responded.

“Yes it’s me. Sorry I’m a little late. I should be there soon.” Yoohee said as she glanced at her watch and picked up the pace. Suddenly, she crashed into a man, causing her to accidentally drop her purse.

“Crap!” she hissed as she bent down to pick up her belongings, which were now scattered all over the sidewalk.

“I’m so sorry Miss.” She heard a voice say. From the corner of her eye, she noticed the stranger bend down and help her gather her stuff.

“Thank you” she whispered as he handed over her wallet. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the stranger’s face. He had dark brown hair and bangs that swept over his forehead. His charming dark eyes were enough to make any girl swoon.

Yoohee bit her bottom lip as the man stood up and extended his hand out to help her up. Nervously, she took hold of his outstretched arm and hoisted herself up. She was at a lost for words. The man standing in front of her looked so handsome - yet strangely familiar. He had a tall and muscular build paired with a broad set of shoulders.

“Do I…know you?” Yoohee inquired skeptically as she eyed the man from head to toe.

The man sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “Probably” he said with a hint of dismay in his voice.

“You look…so familiar” Yoohee continued, raking her memory for the answer.

The man scoffed. “Maybe you saw me on T.V.” he offered, a little annoyed.

“That’s it!” Yoohee suddenly cried. “You’re from that doctor conference I went to! You’re the speaker right?”

The stranger was taken aback. Was this girl crazy? Did she REALLY not recognize him?

“Ermm…no I’m not” he answered, a little perplexed.

Yoohee frowned.

“Well I KNOW I’ve seen you somewhere…do you work at Second Cup? I go there all the time.”

“No.”

“Oh. Well do you work at the noodle shop around the corner? I go there all the time too.”

“No”

“Are you my mailman?”

“No.”

“My newspaper delivery boy?”

The man couldn’t help but smile. This was getting to be oddly amusing.

“Well then who ARE you? I SWEAR I know you!”

The stranger chuckled to himself as Yoohee leaned in closer, critiquing every aspect of his face.

“I’m just a stranger” he said mysteriously after a moment of thought.

Yoohee pouted. Suddenly, her phone rang again.

“Crap! I’m so late!” she exclaimed. Waving a quick goodbye, she ran away, leaving the stranger staring bewildered at her. His thoughts were interrupted when another man ran up too him and playfully slapped him on the shoulder.

“Hyung! I’ve been looking all over for you!” Changmin huffed. Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu came running up behind him.

“Sorry” Yunho apologized.

“Is everything alright? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” Jaejoong noted.

Yunho smiled. “I just bumped into a girl…who didn’t know who I was”

Jaejoong rolled his eyes. “Not EVERYONE knows who we are, Yunho. Just because DBSK is famous, doesn’t mean everyone in the entire world can recognize our faces. ”

Yunho sighed. “Yeh…yeh I know. But this just seemed…different.”

There was a moment of silence as the 4 band mates stared confused at Yunho.

“Never mind, Hyung. Put on your sunglasses! People will recognize you!” Junsu advised.

Yunho let out a deep breath then complied. He quietly followed his friends as they stepped into a white van, all the while thinking about the strange girl he had met. A smile crept onto his lips as he thought about her. ‘I wonder…I wonder if I’ll ever see her again.’ he wondered hopefully.

Yoohee was greeted at the hospital by a rush of nurses.

“You’re needed in ward 3. Mr. Choi is having a seizure!” an unknown voice ordered.

“Ms. Song needs you in Room 251! Her heart is acting up again!” another voice cried.

Yoohee groaned to herself as she tried to concentrate on her work. There was so much to do, yet so little time. Yoohee worked as a doctor at Seoul Hospital. It had always been a dream of hers to help others, so she absolutely adored her job.

“I’ll be right there” she said authoritatively. The crowd of people dispersed and Yoohee sighed in relief.

“Miss Lee?” a small-framed girl asked. It was Yuri, Yoohee’s intern.

“Good morning Yuri!” Yoohee smiled. “Did you get the files I asked for?”

The girl nodded.

“Perfect. Just leave them on my desk.”

The girl paused for a second.

“Miss Lee?”

“Yes?”

“Could I get Friday off? ”

“Why?”

“Well…” Yuri shifted uncomfortably on her feet, as if she was scared to tell her boss what was on her mind. “DBSK has a concert that day. And my friends invited me to go.”

“DBSK?” Yoohee repeated. The name sounded so familiar, but she didn’t know why. Yuri’s eyes lit up.

“DBSK! They’re the most popular Korean band right now. They’re really good!” she said excitedly.

“Oh…” Yoohee murmured, not really interested. She was the type of person who focused more on work, and therefore, she never found time to watch TV, much less keep up with the latest boy bands. Yuri took her boss’ silence as a chance to continue talking about her idols.

“They’re such good singers and dancers. I love ALL their songs. There’s Changmin - he’s the youngest - and Yoochun, and Junsu - he sounds like a dolphin, and Jaejoong…but my favorite one is Yunho.”

“Yunho?” Yoohee asked, trying her best to sound curious even though a hundred other thoughts were rushing through her mind.

Yuri blushed at the thought of her favourite member. “Jung Yunho” she swooned. “He’s the best dancer there is. He’s so manly and attractive and…”

“Yeh I think I’ve heard of him before. I probably saw a picture of him on a billboard or something…but I don’t remember what he looks like. “Yunho…sounds so familiar!” the doctor interrupted. She stopped to take a look at Yuri. “I guess if it’s REALLY that important to you…you can go.”

“REALLY?!” Yuri screamed in disbelief as she jumped up and down and clapped her hands together.

Yoohee rolled her eyes and smiled. “Just don’t go too crazy.”

After a long day at the hospital, Yoohee was ready to go. She packed her bags and headed outside, only to discover that it was raining uncontrollably.

“Aishhh just my luck” she complained as she pulled her coat closer and held her bag over her head. Out of all days that Donghae hadn’t insisted on bringing an umbrella, he had to pick the day when it ACTUALLY rained.

The girl shivered as she ran out onto the street to hail a cab. Suddenly, a huge gust of wind blew over her, making her scarf fly off. Yoohee cursed under her breath as she watched the violent wind carried her scarf away. Ignoring the cold and the icy rain, she ran after her scarf.

“Come back!” she screamed helplessly as she stretched out her arm. Luckily, the scarf flew into the path of a man and landed on his face.

Yoohee rushed up to the stranger and carefully peeled her scarf off his face.

“I’m so sorry” she giggled. “My scarf has a mind of it’s own”

The stranger smiled understandingly. Suddenly, a bolt of realization hit Yoohee.

“YOU AGAIN!” she exclaimed as she pointed at the man’s face. It was the stranger she had bumped into earlier that day. The man smirked, trying to hide the pleasure he felt in knowing that she had remembered him. The two stood for a little, amazed at how small the world really was. For a moment, Yoohee forgot that it was pouring so hard. By now, her clothes were already completely drenched and her once beautiful hair was a mess of wet knots and tangles. Her lips quivered in the cold.

“You must be freezing” the man observed. “Here, let me give you a ride” he offered as he gestured towards his car.

“But…”

“I insist. You’ll have to wait too long for a cab in this weather. ”

Yoohee knew it was wrong. Hadn’t her brother always told her not to trust strangers? Her conscience was screaming at her to turn around and run away, but her body didn’t want to. Something about the stranger attracted her - as if he held some sort of mystical power over her. His eyes penetrated into her soul, making her feel weak and vulnerable in his presence. Without even thinking twice, she stepped into his car.

“Buckle up!” he said cheerfully as he sat down in the driver’s seat.

The two drove in silence, listening to the soft pitter-patter of the rain bouncing off the windows.

“What are the chances?” the man mumbled. Yoohee turned her head and looked at him, confused.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“What are the chances that two complete strangers would bump into each other twice in the same day?”

Yoohee smiled and shrugged her shoulders.

“It must be fate”

Those words rung it the girl’s ears. Was it fate? Was they’re meeting purely coincidence? Or was there more?

“I’m Yoohee, by the way. Lee Yoohee”

“I’m J-” he stopped himself, as if he was changing his mind. “Young Yunho” he lied.

“Yunho?”

“Yup”

“Oh! Like the guy from DBSK?”

Yunho froze. “Y-Y-Yeah I guess.” he stuttered uncomfortably.

Yoohee leaned back in her seat. “I don’t know much about DBSK, but my colleague loves them. She said her favourite is a guy by the name of Jung Yunho. Have you heard of him?”

Yunho tried his best to hide his smile. “I think so. What have you heard about this…Yunho?” he asked suggestively.

“Well I’m no expert. In fact, I don’t even know what the guy looks like. But I hear he’s very handsome and very manly. Apparently, he’s an amazing dancer too”

“Is that so?”

“Yeh. My colleagues go crazy over him - as if he were the best thing that happened since slice bread”

“And you?”

Yoohee was surprised by his question. “Me? Well…I dunno. I guess I’ve always had the preconception that celebrities are all just arrogant jerks who care for nothing more than money” she admitted truthfully. “Personally, I think some girls are just a little too crazy.”

“I agree” Yunho muttered, taken aback by the girl’s honesty.

A moment of awkward silence fell over the two people. Yunho casually tried to steal glances at Yoohee. She was so beautiful. She had thick and shiny black hair which cascaded down her shoulders. Her big round eyes stared intently into the distance and her slightly oval face tilted ever so gently to the side. But what attracted Yunho the most wasn’t that she was gorgeous, it was something else about her. The fact that she was so honest and gentle, yet absolutely clueless at the same time. She wasn’t like all the other girls, who went crazy just at the sound of his name. She was different - so much more different - and he liked her for that.

Yunho quietly pulled up to Yoohee’s driveway and smile politely as she opened the car door and stepped out. He watched intently as she ran to her door and waved a quick goodbye in his direction, all the while trying to resist the urge to ask her for her number.

“If this really is fate…” he reasoned, “if our meeting wasn’t just chance, then I’m sure we’ll meet again”

A few weeks had passed since their chance encounter, and Yunho was starting to get a little disappointed. He wanted so much to see Yoohee again - but how? He didn’t know where she worked and it’d be too weird to randomly pull up on her driveway. He groaned in frustration and buried his face in his hands, silently cursing himself for not having asked her for her phone number. Sighing, he got up from the couch and went to the fridge to get a bottle of beer. Suddenly, he dropped the bottle, making the glass shattered all over the kitchen floor.

“Darn!” he hissed as he bent down to pick up the sharp shards. He swore when one piece cut through his hand.

“Aishhh” he moaned. A deep cut had formed on his hand and warm dark blood was already flowing out. Yunho tried to wash the blood away, but the cut was too deep and the blood just kept flowing.

“HYUNG! Are you okay?” Changmin cried when he saw his band mate hunched over the sink. He ran over to his side, worried. His eyes widened when he saw a small pool of blood. “HYUNG! WHAT HAPPENED?!

“Nothing. I just cut myself.” Yunho winced in pain.

“On what?”

“Glass” Yunho stated as he nodded in the direction of the broken bottle.

Changmin rolled his eyes. “THAT much blood from ONE small piece of glass?”

Yunho glared. “Yah! I’m more fragile than you think! It hurts okay?!”

The younger male chuckled as he took Yunho’s hand in his and got a closer look at the cut. It was pretty deep - deep enough to need stitches. Changmin ignored the other’s complaining as he dragged him to the nearest hospital.

“It’s really not that bad!” Yunho screamed. Truth was, he hated hospitals.

“I don’t care hyung. Just get it looked at. You wouldn’t want that cut to scar. And besides, I think you might need stitches.”

“S-S-Stitches?”

“Yeh.”

“As in…a needle?”

“Yeh. The doctor will sew it shut for you.”

Yunho gulped. This was not going to turn out well.

Yoohee was walking through the hospital when two guys came rushing in the entrance. They were both wearing sunglasses and scarves - as if they were trying to cover their faces. One of the men had cloth wrapped around his hand.

“Excuse me Miss, my friend here cut his hand.” the thinner man explained. Yoohee directed her attention towards the hurt man, who seemed to be staring intently at her.

“May I?” she asked as she pointed at his hand. The man nodded nervously. Yoohee slowly unwrapped the cloth and gently touched the wound. The man flinched.

“I think you need stitches” she said without making eye contact. She glanced at her watch quickly. “I have a few minutes right now. Just come with me. It’ll be fast.”

The wounded man nodded and followed behind her. His friend decided to stay behind.

“You know…you can take off your glasses. We’re indoors now” Yoohee joked as the man sat down on the bed. She gasped when he took off his sunglasses and unwrapped his scarf.

“YUNHO?!” she exclaimed in shock.

He smiled weakly, still in awe that the two of them had somehow been brought together once again.

“Wow. It really is a small world.”

Yunho bit his lip as Yoohee took his hand in hers. Her warm touch made his heart race. He watched in admiration as the skilled doctor gently cleaned his wound and cringed at the feel of the cold water against his cut.

“Does it hurt?” Yoohee asked concerned as she looked up into Yunho’s eyes. His heart stopped.

“N-N-No not really” he lied.

Yoohee smiled as she proceeded to inject a needle to numb the pain.

“This might hurt a little” she cautioned. Yunho squeezed his eyes shut as he waited for the needle to enter his wound.

“Don’t like needles?”

Yunho shook his head violently, making Yoohee giggle.

“Don’t worry, I’m almost done.”

She neatly sewed up the cut, then wrapped a clean bandage over it.

“There! All done!” she announced as she wiped her hands together.

“Thank you” Yunho whispered as he brought his hand up closer to his face. “I guess I’ll be going now.” He was about to walk out the door when he suddenly turned around.

“Doctor Lee?”

“Hmm?”

“Would you like to go out sometime for a drink or something?”

Yoohee’s eyes widened.

“As a thank you, for this” Yunho quickly explained as he held up his now clean wound. “My treat.”

“Okay. That’d be great. I’d say I don’t go out with strangers, but you’re not really a stranger now are you?”

Yunho chuckled and shook his head. “No. We’ve already met 3 times now. I’d say we’re definitely past the ‘stranger’ phase”

Yoohee smiled as she eyed the man standing in front of her. He really was attractive. She couldn’t help but feel that knowing him would send her on a wild roller coaster ride. Her body tingled with excitement as she thought of this.

“Oh and Yunho? Don’t call me Doctor Lee. We’re friends now right?”

A huge smile formed on Yunho’s lips as he nodded in agreement.

“Just call me Yoohee.”
