In the beginning of time, the sun and the moon encountered one another, and what later became a celestial union was formed and consummated.

The eclipse that bejeweled the sky that night was one of love, passion and devotion. The sun and the moon brought twelve stars to the skies, and they circled their parents in a dutiful ring.

But the land above which they hovered and blessed light upon became shrouded in shadows; the intimacy they shared came with the cost of the earth and all life it sustained to perish and suffer. The sun and the moon took such a phenomenon as a sign that the union of the two figures brought about darkness and despair. They blamed such a crisis on each other.

Thus, a separation ensued, and the moon departed, drifting onward from her brief stop in front of her lover. The two became enemies, and ceased to cross paths ever again.

Such a parting brought about the splitting up of their sons; the sun and the moon divided their twelve sons into two halves and each took ownership over one half. The stars were fused with the physical figures of a divine human being, and were discharged from the skies. They were thus renamed “legends”, and were each blessed with an innate ability. No longer were they simply children to their parents; they became warriors – two forces placed before the opposing team to claim justice and triumph for the celestial parenting figure who guarded over them.

The sun took possession over six stars, which he named Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai and Sehun, and released them on the highest of mountains. He branded them as K.

The moon escorted the other half of her offspring, Kris, Xiumin, Luhan, Lay, Chen and Tao, and let them descend beside the coastline. She dubbed them as M.

And thus, the two teams of brothers became strangers to one another. They travelled separately, both imprinted with one mutual quest – to defeat and conquer the other.

Being a big fan of fantasy and supernatural stories, I was immediately overcome with a strong urge to write a story when I first watched the music video for EXO's MAMA. To be honest, I was quite reluctant to actually write a series, or even a one-shot, based on the music video, as it has become fairly obvious that there are already quite a few stories that have come into existence thanks to the MAMA music video. But the concept just kept on bothering me at night and preoccupying my thoughts during the day, and so, in the end, I somehow found myself sitting at my computer planning out this story and jotting down notes for characterisation and possible plot developments.

And so, here it is. I have drawn some inspiration, ideas and themes from the MAMA music video, but the main storyline strays away from the obvious – it is not a written rendition of the music video. There are some slight hints to a mythical theme, so some aspects of the story, namely astrology, may not conform entirely to reality. After all, this is a fantasy story.
