03/04/12: Whatever happens back stage

Dal Niente

A/N: Inspired by Seungri being a tease.  Don't forget to check the foreward once in a while ;)

They started off the Big Show 2012 tour two days ago, but Jiyong’s body was still running high on adrenaline from the first concert.  He lived for the screams of thousands of adoring fans and the sea of yellow glow sticks waving in the stands.   He thrived for the hot, bright lights shining down on him and the deep bass that vibrated through his body.  Jiyong loved everything about making music and being a performer.

Here they were, all five together again, in the center of all the spotlights while their album sat comfortably in the #1 spot on dozens of music charts.  Big Bang was back and stronger than ever.  This time around, everyone was on the same page and played their roles to perfection, focusing on the team rather than solo projects.  Jiyong savored every waking moment knowing all of this had almost slipped through his fingers forever.

The concert started with familiar chords and Jiyong brought the microphone to his mouth to shout a greeting to the fans at the top of his lungs.  “What’s up Seeoooul!!”

Multicolored lights and pyrotechnics lit up the stage as they started the first verse of “Tonight”.  The ground vibrated from the loud speakers and the thunderous cheers of the audience until it resonated in every fiber of his being.

Jiyong turned to Seungri with an excited smile and the younger man matched the expression with a wide and elated grin of his own.  Seungri was loving minute of it too.  As they held eye contact for a brief second, Jiyong felt his stomach do a flip and he blamed it on nerves.  Despite performing for over five years, he still got pre-concert jitters every time.

For months, Jiyong didn’t think he’d ever perform as a part of Big Bang again.  With all the controversy that had happened last year, Jiyong had been positive that Big Bang was over.  He had little faith in their ability overcome the negativity that had blown up throughout the industry and fandom.   Fortunately, Big Bang managed to pull it together and became pillars of support for each other.  This applied especially to Seungri, who had consistently channeled strength and confidence to Jiyong when he needed it the most.

Seungri had been there to hold him and cry with him when the scandal broke out last year.  Seungri had been there for Jiyong after the President had given him a verbal lashing and again when Jiyong had been foolish enough to read cruel and harsh criticisms about himself on the internet.  In person or on the phone and any time of day, Seungri had been there to comfort Jiyong, to hush his quiet sobs, and to tell him that everything was going to be all right.

He had been there for Daesung too.  Although the two had been awkward with each other in the past, Seungri had stepped up to the plate and dragged Daesung out of his self-imposed isolation.  Religion had helped mend Daesung’s soul, but Seungri had helped bring him back to society.  He coerced both Daesung and Youngbae to leave the house, go to parties, talk to people, and he even managed to get them relaxed enough to drink and live a little.

In the last year, Seungri matured dramatically.  He had come to the realization that the spotlight was meant to be shared and that it was his responsibility to help his teammates shine.  He instilled confidence and led by example by living every day to its fullest.  Day by day, Big Bang started to heal and Seungri had been the glue to hold everything together.  Without Seungri’s conviction, they probably would not have been on stage right then.  Maybe one of them would have been working on a solo, joining the military, or simply hiding forever in shame.

Jiyong ran to the other side of the stage to wave to his fans and nearly collided into Seungri, dodging him by only a few inches.  They laughed and Jiyong swatted at the younger man playfully as they quickly ran to their respective spots for the next choreographed dance.  From his head down to his toes, Taeyang was precise and flawless with every movement and note.  Daesung had grown comfortable enough to finally accept and embrace the crowd’s cheer and Seunghyun was the power player, knocking everything out of the ball field.

The songs continued to transition and time passed in a blur as everyone hurried around the stage, to the dressing rooms for costume changes, and to stage lifts for their next entrance.  Toward the end of the concert, they did an encore of Fantastic Baby and Jiyong was on a second high.  He danced energetically, waving his arms in a wiper fashion before singing his lyrics.  Half of the team had stopped singing over the vocal tracks and danced from one side of the stage to the other to wave to their fans.  Somewhere along the way, Youngbae had lost his shirt… again.

The screams from the audience suddenly surged, growing louder than usual.  Jiyong quickly scanned the stage and froze when he saw Seungri.

It was Seungri’s verse, but the man was preoccupied, playing with the hem of his tank top and tugging it up just high enough for his fans to see a flash of his toned torso.  Knowing all eyes were on him, Seungri wore a haughty expression as he rolled his hips and did a titillating dance.  He was a tease, showing everyone something they could never have.  At that moment, Seungri have never looked so god damn gorgeous and outright able.

Jiyong’s jaw dropped.  He suddenly found it difficult to breathe as though the air around him had been completely away.

In a flash, Seungri pulled his shirt down again and grinned at the crowd.  He pretended to shiver playfully before skipping off to dance in front of another section of fans.

Jesus ing Christ

able?  Jiyong couldn’t believe his mind had come up with something that absurd.  He missed a couple beats until Daesung turned to look him in concern.  Panicking for a second, Jiyong eventually caught up to the chorus and jumped back into the fray of things, pushing all else out of his mind.  Now was not the time for those kinds of thoughts.

During the final curtain call, they all lined up in front of the stage and Jiyong reached out for the people beside him, Seunghyun to his right and Seungri to his left.  His heart sank when the younger man turned and gave him a quick, warm smile.  Seungri took his hand and gave it a squeeze.  In response, Jiyong mustered up a big smile of his own and squeezed back as they took a deep bow.

He was so screwed.

The after-party was a mellow affair back stage with just enough food and booze to keep everyone from feeling burnt out and under-appreciated.  In a corner of the room, Seunghyun and Daesung were having light drinks over a quiet conversation.  From where he sat, Jiyong could see a red glow on Daesung’s tan face.  Being a reluctant and light-weight drinker, Daesung only needed a beer or two to get mildly buzzed and chipper.  Near the DJ, Youngbae continued to dance like there was no tomorrow.  He could never stay idle when music was playing.  And Seungri…

Jiyong pursed his lips and played with his drink, still half full with cognac on ice.  Seungri was talking rapidly to a handful of their female dancers.  They looked like a harem around him and Seungri soaked up every minute of their attention.  Jiyong couldn’t put his finger on it, but something about the sight annoyed him.

No, that was a lie.  Jiyong knew exactly why he was aggravated.

He was attracted to Seungri.

Jiyong frowned into his drink as he finally admitted it to himself.

Seungri was an attractive guy; everyone in Big Bang was striking in one way or another, but there was a big difference between acknowledging someone's good looks and being physically attracted to that person.  Seungri used to be an adorable kid that Jiyong liked to bully just to see a cute reaction.  He was like a cuddly stuffed animal that Jiyong loved to hug in his sleep.  Now, he would never be able slip into bed with Seungri that innocently again.

Ever since VVIP’s release, Seungri had stopped being an annoying little brother and slowly evolved into a smoldering and captivating person who drew Jiyong in like a moth to a flame.  All those times he had teased Seungri, hugged him, held his hand, or tried to kiss him… how long ago had Jiyong’s instincts realized the physical attraction?   How could he have been so dumb and blind?

In the past few months, Jiyong had managed to ignore those thoughts.  He had bigger things to worry about, like how he was going to find time to squeeze in some sleep before running back to the studio to write or record a new song.  Jiyong had been so busy that there were days he barely had time to eat.  He had a lot going on and he also had other women to distract him during rare moments when he had time to sit back and breathe.

But during their promotions and concerts, Jiyong had no choice but to move back into the dorms and be around Seungri all day and night.  It was easy to ignore his attraction when Seungri wasn’t around.  It was impossible to ignore when he saw Seungri come out of the bathroom after a long shower with nothing but a towel around his trim waist on a daily basis.  Seungri used to be a scrawny teen, but he was filling out so nicely that Jiyong couldn’t help but stare sometimes.  After months (or possibly years) of denial, Jiyong couldn’t resist the magnetic pull anymore, not if Seungri was going to keep this up.

All he wanted to do right then was grab Seungri by the wrist and drag the man to a more secluded and shadowed area.  Jiyong thought about pushing Seungri up against a wall and kissing him hard until his lips hurt and his lungs pleaded for air.  He imagined slipping his hands under that tight, black tank top to trace Seungri’s lean form with the palms of his hands and feel hard muscles and warm skin under his finger tips.  He wanted to feel the softness of the other man’s lips and he wanted hear pleased gasps and needy moans against his own mouth.

Oh god.  What the was wrong with him?  Flustered, Jiyong stifled a shiver of arousal and downed the rest of his drink, grimacing as the acrid taste hit his system.  This situation was bad...  it was ing awful

Seungri was hands off.  He was absolutely off limits.

It wasn’t the fact that Seungri was another guy because Jiyong liked to dabble with the same once in awhile.  Although he’d been with more women, Jiyong didn’t like having boundaries and sometimes craved hard, lean bodies over soft, supple curves.  He chose his flings carefully and managed to keep his liaisons under tight wraps.  No, Jiyong didn’t have a problem kissing men or taking some to his bed, but he would rather get caught with again than get caught having a tryst Seungri.

Jiyong was an idol and had his choice of men and women.  Why did it have to be Seungri of all people?

Although chasing after the forbidden was always alluring and thrilling, starting something with Seungri would bring nothing but endless headaches.  Seungri was a terrible liar and couldn’t keep his mouth shut to save his life.  One way or another, their secret would get out.  Their reputations and Big Bang would be ruined forever and it would be his fault for allowing irrational lust to control him.  The risks far outweighed the benefits.

More importantly, Seungri was a ladies’ man.  Without a doubt, Seungri was for women and flirted with anything that had a pair of .  Although they hugged and held hands every so often, their physical intimacy never crossed the line.  Jiyong only threatened to kiss jokingly to provoke the younger man.  For the most part, Jiyong was certain that Seungri wasn’t even remotely interested in taking things any further.

Seungri liked women too much.  That was why he was off limits.

Jiyong refrained from sighing when he noticed Youngbae coming his way.

“Hey,” Youngbae greeted and took a seat beside him.  Jiyong nodded and they sat quietly for a minute before Youngbae spoke up again.  “You know, you’re going to have to pay your dermatologist more to get rid of your wrinkles if you keep frowning like that.”

"What?"  Jiyong looked at his friend in confusion.

Youngbae nodded toward Seungri’s direction.  "You've been giving him dirty looks all night.  Whatever it is, you should let it go and let the kid enjoy himself a little.  It’s our last concert in Seoul for now.”

Jiyong was taken aback by Youngbae’s skewed interpretation but he covered up his surprise with a scoff.  “He’s not a kid anymore and I wasn’t giving any kind of looks.”

“Regardless, you’ve been staring at him for a long time.”  Jiyong face burned slightly with embarrassment.  Had he been that obvious?  Youngbae grinned at him.  “Oh, I know what’s going on.”

“You do?”  Jiyong’s heartbeat surged and his body tensed as Youngbae nodded.

“Yeah, you’re jealous.”

“Jealous?”  That wasn’t the response Jiyong had been expecting, but he remained defensive as he huffed, “Why would I be jealous of those girls?”  He had no reason to be jealous of all the attention Seungri was lavishing on them.

“I meant Seungri.  You must be jealous that he horded all the women for himself.”  Youngbae laughed and clapped Jiyong’s back with a hand.  “I think we should call it a night.  You should get some sleep so you can be more coherent tomorrow,” he joked.  “We’re supposed to record a show in morning and we can’t have you looking cranky tomorrow too.  I’ll ask someone to get the van ready.”

Jiyong prepared a sassy response, but Youngbae slid away to hunt down one of their managers before he could say anything.

The party was starting to die out anyway and the flock of girls around Seungri soon dispersed, leaving the younger man to his own mischief.  Seungri quickly scanned the room and his face lit up when he found Jiyong.  He waved and bounded over despite the fact that Jiyong nowhere near ready for a one-on-one encounter.  Nevertheless, Jiyong was professional enough to it up and act normal.

“Did you manage to get all their numbers?” Jiyong made some small talk.

“I got one or two if any of you are interested,” Seungri answered and took over Youngbae’s seat beside his leader.

“None for you?”  Jiyong raised an eyebrow.

Seungri shrugged indifferently.  “They’re not my type.”

Jiyong snorted.  “All women are you type.”

“That’s not true!”  Seungri said and feigned offense.

“What did you guys talk about?”

Seungri yawned and leaned against Jiyong’s side tiredly.  Immediately, Jiyong’s body went rigid and his nerves remained on edge as Seungri pressed close to him.

“We just chatted about the encore.  They said I should just take my tank top off next time, but I told them Youngbae-hyung already has that market segment.”  Seungri covered his mouth with a hand as he laughed.  “Besides, you’re too possessive to share me with the audience.  Am I right?”  He teased.

Something about that joke struck a chord and Jiyong frowned in frustration.

“I’m not possessive,” Jiyong replied and pulled away from Seungri, “but you shouldn’t do that again.  That’s not the image we want represent.”  It would be better for his off-kilter libido if Seungri stayed clothed.

Seungri straightened up and blinked at him.  “Youngbae-hyung takes his shirt off all the time.”

“But he isn’t trying to be a stripper on stage,” Jiyong exaggerated.  “We have kids in the audience and we can’t have you going around trying to… to it up all the time.  They’re young and impressionable.”

“But-”

Jiyong shook his head.  “No, I’m telling you this right now because it’s my role as the leader.  The next time you pull that stunt, you’ll be answering to the President.”

Seungri’s expression suddenly darkened and he nodded obediently.  Jiyong looked away feeling slightly guiltily.  He knew Seungri would shrug this off by tomorrow morning, but he couldn’t help but feel a little bad for scolding the younger man.  It wasn’t Seungri’s fault that Jiyong’s thoughts were a complete mess.

Luckily, Youngbae returned in time to break the growing tension.

“Is everything okay?”  Youngbae asked as soon as he noticed a change in Seungri’s normal demeanor.  Jiyong shot Youngbae a look.  The man loved playing the good guy role, consoling Seungri every time something went wrong.  Youngbae was always there for a hug if the younger man so much as sniffled from a runny nose.

“Everything’s fine,” Seungri responded quietly.  This was too much.

“I need a cigarette,” Jiyong mumbled and stood up.  “I’ll meet you guys at the van.”

From the corner of his eye, he saw Youngbae rest a hand on Seungri’s shoulder to prevent the younger man from following.  “Let him be.  He just needs his beauty sleep.”

Shrugging off his annoyance, Jiyong walked out of earshot and fished out a pack of cigarettes from his jacket.  He felt like a killjoy, but this was for the greater good.  Didn’t they get it?  For the sake of the band, Seungri needed to stop being so damn distracting.  The sooner Jiyong could smother his sudden interest in Seungri, the sooner he could pretend that everything was back to normal.
