They told him he would fight in the first line, defeat the enemy, taste the glory. He would come back a hero, covered in medals, carrying the flag he loved so much. He was thrilled at first. He signed up without giving it a second thought. They shaved his head and gave him clothes that were too big for him. He didn’t care. He was too dazzled by all the romanticism they had decorated war with. For him the Enemy was just an abstract idea. Targets he had to hit like in his video games.

When he was sent to the battlefield the only things waiting for him were despair, fear and death. He soon realized there was nothing noble or heroic about war. He soon realized he was trapped in a never-ending nightmare.
