Tip #3
Idea POP {Story Tips and Idea Shop}Tip #3
Look at your surroundings.
Look at the grass, trees, and sky out your window. What are the colors like? What do they make you feel? Can you feel the warmth of the sun’s rays tickling your skin?
What do you hear? Do you have a TV running? Is there water running in a bathroom down the hall or the next room over? Are there people talking in the background?
How does the place you’re sitting in smell? Does it smell musky, or clean and fresh?
When you are writing, use all the senses. (Touch, sight, smell, hearing, and tasting—on occasions when writing about food)
Think about what you are going to write about; envision it. If a character is sitting out in the sun; how do you feel when you are sitting in the sun? Does it make you hot and sticky, or does it make you warm and tingly?
What are your favorite foods? How do they taste? Do they make you moan in satisfaction and whine when you want more but can’t have it?
If you provide more details within sensory, then your readers will be more capable of empathizing and understanding what the character is going through at that time.
I will write more on this topic soon. :3
