YJ’s eyes followed the two, witnessing the evident rekindling of Rian’s and JB’s feelings toward each other. He can’t help but wonder the real reason behind their break-up. It was so apparent that they still long for each other but the hesitations are still there. He sighed at the sight of them, he felt so defeated.

“Yah! Care to explain?” Uibong nudged YJ, clearly confused at the ‘set-up’ he was seeing-Rian dancing with JB and not with his bestfriend! “Why are you just leisurely seating there, letting your girl taken away from you right under your nose?”

“Even right from the start, they were already meant to be together.I don’t even stand a chance.” YJ then stared at the ground, feeling so helpless than ever.

“Yah! Weren’t the two of you dating? What went wrong? ” Uibong asked, still bewildered.

“We weren’t even dating in the first place. It’s only you who assumed everything.” YJ felt a pain in his chest.

“But.. You clearly had an understanding, haven’t you?” Uibong couldn’t help but feel betrayed for his best bud.

Meanwhile..

“Do you still remember this song?” JB started off their conversation as they were both dancing to the music.

Every note and every line has always been a favorite of hers. It’s just that, it isn’t quite the way it was before. She didn’t want to bring back their past. It was such a happy memory she loved to cherish but because of the situation they were caught up with, it became a painful past. She then ignored JB’s question, instead, “What brought you here? Shouldn’t you be following HS’ tail by now?” She couldn’t help but get confused with JB’s actions. He was acting really strange that she found it hard to decipher his real intentions.

“Don’t I have the right to be here? I was also invited, remember?” He said not leaving his gaze upon hers. She can’t look at him directly in the eyes. They continued on dancing, Rian following JB’s lead in their dance. step.close.step.close.turn and pulled her more closer to him this time.

“But JB.. You’re not making this any easy.. Can’t you see? It’s all in the past now. You had me at my best but you chose to break my heart.“ She felt dry as the words came out of uncontrollably. It’s all in the past now, isn’t it?

“I’m sorry.”

His words were too sudden and too unexpected; which caught her off guard. She lost her balance causing her to almost trip over JB but he caught her just in time. He squeezed her hand and held on her waist tighter making her more stable this time, as he was leading her from one step to another. She then regained her composure and was back in track in no time. Wordlessly, they started dancing as swiftly as the music; their bodies in perfect harmony. No one got the courage to talk that they stayed in silence during the entire dance.

On the other hand..

“What about HS? I’m surprised that JB stayed here rather than flying all the way to abroad for HS’s graduation. “ Uibong’s really at a lost. Everything became so complicated.         

“He has better reasons to stay here just like I do.”  Although Uibong wasn’t that experienced when it comes to love, somehow, he seemed to understand everything, all at once. And his bestfriend was clearly letting go.

 He had always known and understood many things about YJ, even when he was confusing empathy with love for HS and when he finally realized his feelings for Rian, but he never knew this side of YJ that he could actually be this brave.

He gave his buddy a pat on his shoulder hoping to let him feel that it’s going to be okay soon.

YJ was touched by that simple gesture of Uibong, “Yah. Don’t worry. I’ll be just fine.” He certainly hoped so but he’s afraid that it’s not going to happen that easy.

“Yah! Of course you will, you’re a rock star after all, remember?”  Uibong tried his best to cheer him up.

“Ohh. Rock Spirit in the air!” YJ smiled widely pretending to be just cool about it.

On the dance floor..

Soon enough, the music came into a halt. Rian broke free from JB’s touch. She was about to go to the restroom which she has been meaning to earlier on when YJ blocked her way.

“Yah! Where do you think are you going? Running away again?”

She just looked at him blankly, not sure of what he’s planning to do.

“You have to at least dance with me one last time.”

She then smiled and took his hand. “Kaja”

JB went back to their table and silently watch Rian and YJ dance.

While Rian can’t seem to get her mind straight. She can’t focus on her dance with YJ.

“I’m Sorry” His words were stuck in her head; they kept playing in her mind over and over again. They were the words she had been waiting to hear from him ever since the day they broke up. But now that she heard about it, she didn’t know what to do. She wasn’t even ready for it. She wasn’t even sure if her heart was willing to hear his reasons, his explanations. She felt so lost.

Now that she thinks about it, YJ always manage to come to her rescue every time, easing away her pain.. Just like now, she felt so lost but somehow seeing YJ at her side makes her smile unknowingly. Somehow a part of her ached for YJ, why can’t she just feel the same way so that it wouldn’t be this complicated? Yes, she was attracted to him at some point but that doesn’t make him anything more than a friend. In as much as she wanted to return his feelings, she just simply couldn’t, her heart already belongs to someone else.

“Yah! Are you even listening to what I’m saying?” YJ broke her reverie.

“Mian. I was just thinking something.”

“Is he the one you’re thinking again?”

“Ani. “ She lied. “You sure do have better skills now, you’ve improved a lot in dancing.” Rian changed the subject.

“Just follow your heart Rian ahh.” YJ said despite how she tried to divert the subject.

“Yoojin.. “ Her voice trailed off, feeling soo hurt. “I’m sorry.”

“Face him right on. I’ll be cheering for you. Don’t worry about me.” That’s all he can say, since he couldn’t ask for heart then he’d be contented with helping her finding her way to her happiness.

“Kumowa. You’ve been such a great friend to me YJ.” She smiled with tears in her eyes.

He was now officially letting her go. He then let go of her hand and let her be with the one she truly loves.

She then went to the restroom and wiped away her tears. She took a deep breath and finally got the courage to face JB. She realized how she had always left him hanging without having to listen to him wholeheartedly. Once and for all, she wanted to hear everything from him. As she went out, she was alarmed to see JB waiting for her.

“Can we talk?” JB ask her as soon as their eyes met.

She only gave him a nod, afraid that her voice might falter due to her obvious anxiety.

They found themselves at a park just outside the hall. She took a seat on a bench and waited for JB on what he was to say.

“I’m sorry.” JB repeated what he just said awhile ago and continued, “I don’t even know where to start explaining. I’ve done so many things to hurt you. From the very day we broke up, I’ve been doing things that caused you pain. You’ve always been there for me but all I did was to break your heart.”

She felt her tears welling up her eyes.

“I’m sorry for everything you’ve suffered because of me.”

Her tears fall helplessly. As soon as he saw her tears, he gently wiped them away.

“Do you know how much it hurts me when you cry? It hurts me more if I’m the reason for your tears. I know there aren’t enough words to explain how much I’ve regretted for how I’ve wronged you, but I really am sorry. I’ve been too blinded with my compassion towards HS to realize how much you mean to me. It took me seeing you getting too close to YJ to realize that I don’t want to lose you. ”

“JB..” He sounded sincere but what’s she supposed to believe now after all those times he was with HS?

“I know it’s hard to believe me right now after all I’ve done to you. I can’t blame you either. But I just want you to know that I never stopped loving you. I still love you Rian ah. It has always been you.” JB said in his most earnest tone.

“ I’m just a thing of your past now, if you keep living in the past then there’s no future.” She can’t help but reiterate what HS once said to her.

“Thing is.. The future for me is already a thing of the past, you were my first love and you will be my last.”

 She blinked hard. And blinked again. She’s not dreaming, right? Upon realizing that she’s not, she felt her eyes sting again. “Pabo.” That’s all she could manage to utter.

“I’m not forcing you to forgive me that easily but I just want you to know that I’ll be waiting. No matter how long, I will wait for the time that you’d open your heart again for me.”
