Chapter 2: Not A Chapter, But More From ABadger

A lot of love went into this particular fic. Whether it’s because of my passion for the piano or for writing only god knows. But also a part of me felt as though you all deserved it, and that I should do well for one of my last fics.

I took a lot of inspiration from different pianists for my descriptions (and will note that some very very talented writers and their blogs made some brilliant descriptions of music).

Some of them include: Sokolov (the master himself who has delivered an earth-shaking rendition of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto), and Seong Jin-cho and Hayato Sumino — both incredible pianists who performed in one of the recent International Chopin Competitions.

I had a lot of fun writing the prose, but I will say that the composers themselves lent their hands when I needed them. Ravel’s piece for example quite literally translates to a boat! And thus the imagery was born of itself. Whereas other pieces required a little more research. 

It’s really interesting to note that most of these composers also led some pretty troubled lives, and to be honest I wanted to have that sense of tortured artist-esque in this fiction itself. Hopefully that can be seen through Yuna’s despair of always coming second and Yeji for winning yet not being good enough
