Chapter 10

The Start of Something New

Jake studied Jeonggeun as they sat on the couch, Jake with his head tilted to the side as he bowed his head slightly to adopt a non-judgemental stance. “What's wrong?” He asked, his voice flat and emotionless for the most part, trying to stay as neutral as possible.

“I don't know,” Jeonggeun replied, being honest. “I don't know if my tattoo is bothering me again, but I feel the need to touch your tattoo with mine again,” he explained after some thought, being hesitant with the idea as he wasn't sure what Jake's reaction would even be.

“I don't mind,” reminded Jake as he held out his arm after rolling up the sleeve of his hoodie, revealing the tattoo as he turned his wrist to face upwards. “What has you so hesitant anyway?” He asked, watching as Jeonggeun reached out and grabbed his wrist again, letting their tattoos touch.

“Just- just seeing what this kind of thing did to my brother?” Asked Jeonggeun. “I don't remember the details of what happened to cause him to leave but I do know it had to do with him rejecting his soulmate,” he explained.

“What was his soulmate mark?” Asked Jake, genuinely curious because he wondered if Jeonggeun even remembered what had happened to them back when they were kids.

“I think it was a tattoo," mumbled Jeonggeun, trying to remember. “Minhyuk and his soulmate were the best of friends even before finding out they were soulmates,” he added. “But there has to be more to it right?” He asked.

“I don't know, probably," agreed Jake as he nodded his head.

“I don't remember much about it though,” sighed Jeonggeun as he shook his head, moving away as soon as he remembered how close he was to Jake.

“Hm,” hummed Jake, looking thoughtful.

“He doesn't remember does he?” Asked Seoho as he and Jake took a break in their sparring.

“No,” responded Jake as he stretched out his sore muscles, letting out a small groan as he felt how sore he really was. “God damn you really went hard today,” he huffed, sitting down once he was done stretching.

“Did you expect him to remember?” Asked Seoho.

“No,” sighed Jake as he looked down at the ground. “I didn't expect him to,” he explained. “I don't think he would understand,” he added.

“I'm sure he'll figure it out someday,” reassured Seoho.

“Funnily enough I'd rather he didn't,” huffed Jake as he let out a humorless chuckle. “I think he's better off not knowing,” he sighed.

“I am curious though,” stated Seoho as he dropped down in a crouched position in front of Jake. “Why go through all the trouble of keeping secrets from him? He's going to find out anyway,” he inquired with his head tilted to the side in question.

“It's a stupid reason,” grumbled Jake as he let out a soft sigh. “The reason for my hesitation is because the accident, it drove us apart for a few years,” he explained. “He doesn't seem to even remember the accident, but I'd rather keep him ignorant than to have him blame me for his family falling apart,” he added.

Jeonggeun stared at his tattoo in wonder as he stood on the bridge again, studying it as he tried to remember when it first appeared. As far as he could remember his tattoo had always been there, but he didn't remember the events that led to it appearing for the first time. He knew that once people reached a certain age certain soulmate marks manifested. In rare cases it did manifest early, but Jeonggeun couldn't remember when his had manifested for the first time.

“You again?” Came a voice as Chanyoung walked over and stood beside Jeonggeun. “This has to be some weird coincidence,” he remarked as he leaned against the railing.

“I'm not going to jump, I think you know this by now,” commented Jeonggeun as he turned to Chanyoung. “Why are you here again?” He asked.

“You can understand me?” Asked Chanyoung as he raised an eyebrow in question.

Jeonggeun reached up and took out a small earpiece from his left ear before holding it out. “Translator,” he explained before putting it back in his ear. “One of my roommates got it for me to help me with my Korean,” he added. “I don't even know if you can understand a word I'm saying but I do understand you now,” he explained with a shrug before turning back to look out at the water.

“God I wish I was rich enough to afford one of those things,” grumbled Chanyoung as he turned to look out at the water. “I understand you a little bit, but some words are lost to me,” he complained with a small huff, resisting the urge to pout when Jeonggeun chuckled at him.

“You ready to go home?” Called a voice as Jake walked over with his hands in his hoodie pockets.

“I suppose,” responded Jeonggeun as he turned to Jake, keeping the hand that had the tattoo on the railing. “I've spent most of the afternoon out here again,” he remarked, shaking his head as he took his hand off the railing.

“What brings you around friend?” Asked Jake, speaking in Korean after he noticed Chanyoung watching them interact.

“I'm just here, I take walks sometimes, and happened to run into this one again,” responded Chanyoung as he gestured to Jeonggeun.

“Is he…?” Asked Jeonggeun as he turned to look at Chanyoung before looking back at Jake.

“Ah,” hummed Jake, shaking his head at Jeonggeun before turning and walking away.

“I'll see you around then?” Asked Jeonggeun as he turned to Chanyoung who blinked at him.

“Are you saying goodbye?” Asked Chanyoung, trying to understand Jeonggeun's farewell. “If so then goodbye, and don't go jumping off any bridges now,” he added, turning and walking away.

Jeonggeun watched him go, scoffing at his words before turning and walking away, following after Jake who had stopped to let him say goodbye before continuing to walk when Jeonggeun caught up to him.

“That translator Dann got me was very useful, I need to remember to thank him again,” commented Jeonggeun as he walked with Jake.

“Everyone has one, sometimes it's easier to have one in your ears in case you're in a country looking for someone,” explained Jake. “As Dongju's soulmate is doing, he can't speak a lot of the languages where he's traveling but it's proven very useful when having to use a translator to communicate back,” he added.

“I guess I can see how useful that is,” agreed Jeonggeun.

Also yes, in their next life their roles are reversed. And those who figured it out that it was this person who was Minhyuk's soulmate, congrats!

Chapter 5: Jeonggeun is still learning the language, he will pick it up at his own pace.

The execution was a quick one. Kinda feel bad for the dude but then I remember what he did so…

Chapter 2: Jeonggeun wants to seem more confident and also he prefers to ignore important things such as the color of the rose on his palm.

Black has mostly negative meaning but maybe for the boys it will have a unique meaning!

Chapter 1: Jake has to be really careful as Jeonggeun can cause some trouble or a fight could break out. It is understandable that Jeonggeun is not happy, who would want someone constantly watching them? But he has no choice. His backstory makes me very curious, I wonder what happened with his brother. Why did he leave Jeonggeun ?

Jake isn’t much better, he has to make sure that he and his family won’t have to pay for their father’s debt.

So far the story seems pretty interesting. Good job, author!
