Description

Long-time Clash Match champion Virgil Park is steeled with the confidence his untarnished track record brings, until a new challenger decides that this year is about to be the year he is finally going to lose.

Foreword

Virgil Park, a War God's halfling son, is dubbed as the Angel of Undeath in the town of Trinidad, where the biannual tradition of Clash Match held by the Bikers Collision Coalition is the most anticipated event by all types of ghouls and monsters—being the only event that they are allowed to engage in without the laws of the land coming for them to enforce the quintessential balance between the worlds of mankind and the preternatural. It is a biker chase-and-hunt sports organized by his kind for his kind, so they can have the means to celebrate festivities and practice traditions that would generally be looked down upon by humans if they do it with disregard to the rules and regulations that the conventional species have imposed. In the game of Clash Match, where the players must do the most damage without dealing fatal blows to their opponents, there is only one rule: there must be zero kills. The point of the game is to establish the hierarchical standing of the candidate's species in the underground society until the next match decides if they would maintain their current spot or go up or down another rank. Participating in the games is one of the only times Virgil is allowed to use his supernatural powers and inhuman abilities that would otherwise be deemed hostile to mere mortals. This year's Match 1 is especially much awaited, as fans and naysayers alike are specifically looking forward to Virgil's spectacular performance. Always the hunter, he could not have foreseen the circumstances he would eventually find himself in. The arguably innocent but definitely dangerous sports event turns deadly when a certain challenger is presented. A human priest becomes the works of Virgil's nightmares when he learns that it's not only the career he has built up for himself that's being threatened, but his life is inevitably put on the line as well, when the new Clash Match contender introduces himself as Reverend Thomas Do, whose goal is to defeat the Demigod to offer him as a sacrifice and use his blood as a talisman to fight evil.

Author's note

Hello! Thank you for clicking on Zero Kills! I hope you enjoy your stay. Do comment and upvote to show me support. Let me know how you find the story.

I really don't know why I'm publishing all my drafted stories. It seems I have a lot of projects to work on after finishing Blackmouth. (It will be soon, by the way. So if you haven't come across that story, please do check it out. It's good, I promise!) As you can see, Zero Kills is inspired by many things, but I definitely did not follow any of their systems and worldbuilding to a T. You'll definitely see how it's derived from these works, but it's going to be obvious how I've taken a lot of liberties and made a world of my own. So look forward to the spins and twists I will be executing using these already amazing and solid materials.

A fun fact: Zero Kills used to be a tentative idea at first. The title and poster have been around for more than six years, I think since 2017, if I remember correctly. But I just couldn't come up with the plot. The original one, I've scrapped completely. This time I have a working idea, and I look forward to it coming into fruition this time.
