After much speculation buzzing around SM Entertainment's SM Rookies this past month, with rumors of a girl group debut in the works, SM's CEO has finally released a comment to clear the air via SMTown's official Twitter.
"The rumors surrounding our SM Rookies are true, our newest project is just about ready to be revealed to the public. This project revolves around our latest addition to the NCT team, an all-female unit that [we] felt embodies the essence of Neo Culture Technology." - Commented CEO Lee Sungsoo - via Twitter.
"--Releasing more male additions to the public at this time felt redundant and anticipated. Instead, [we] decided that it was time to introduce our girls to the world. The girls unit will be known as NCT-F, and will be debuting in two group. With the first in May of this year, with the debut track, "FIESTA," and the second half in June with the track, "So What.' "
"--NCT-F is the future of kpop, that embodies everything the group currently stands for, represents self-expression, living above the translation-gap of ethnicity that bounds most societies, and encouraging uniqueness, individuality and experimentation with the core means of connection. Here at SM Entertainment, we strive to create groups that will break the expectations of the general public, stepping outside of the dotted lines to bring [you] something exciting and original - a journey to both the listener and the artists, encapsulating netizens in the girls united dream. NCT-F will do just that."
"--We're excited to share the graduation of our SM Rookies into full-fledged idols and join them on stage with their NCT brothers."
NCT-F will be the female counterpart to the current 23-member male lineup, according to SM CEO Lee Sungsoo, and will be promoting with their labelmates in the foreseeable future.
The identities of the members have yet to be revealed, but we'll be looking out for any updates.
Although SM Entertainment is currently busy with NCT Dream and NCT 127's upcoming tours and concert dates, the company seems to be full steam ahead with NCT-F's anticipated debut.
Stay tuned for more from SM!
