a toast to the groom
Description
Hyukjae is getting married, and Donghae is but a wedding guest. He supposes there are worse ways to break your own heart.
Foreword
What do you say when your best friend—and quite possibly the love of your life—gets married to another? You see the way the silver band slides so smoothly onto his ring finger, and think about all the times he’s caressed your cheek with those hands. You watch as he leans in to kiss his bride, and immediately you’re taken back to the way they’d felt against your lips, the way he’s tasted. But then the world snaps back into focus when the hall explodes into thunderous claps as they smile for the cameras. You don’t know how you’re doing it but your feet shuffle towards them as you walk over together with the rest of your friends. His eyes meet yours and you see the joy in his eyes, plain as day. His eyes are bright, his grin wide, and you think happiness is a good look on him. So what do you do, then? You clap him on the shoulder, flash him a smile that makes your cheeks ache, and you say, with all the bravery and cowardice in you, “Congratulations, Hyukjae.”
And you mean it. You really, really do. Even if it feels like you’re drowning, and like you’ll never come up for air again.

A/N:
Title comes from the Hamilton number 'Satisfied'.
Also no idea why the cover art is in such low quality. Ugh.
