Chapter 24
Fate
Chapter 24
[Author’s POV]
Fights.
They became a daily necessity for Hyuk Jae and his parents. Every session of breakfast ended in fury, with either him or his father slamming the table and leaving without even touching their plates. The mother would break out in tears or scream at her son.
It had been two weeks since the outbreak, the day where he broke the news to Hyoyeon, the day they had stopped contacting each other.
Throughout the past two weeks, he had met Tiffany more than Hyoyeon did. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Hyuk Jae met up with Tiffany.
The reason, you ask? As quote by Mister and Missus Lee, ‘Both of you need to know each other more before the wedding and try to fall in love.’ Which translated into Hyuk Jae’s language of ‘Total Bull’.
Today was another Monday, another day he dreaded; because it simply meant another fight with his parents before meeting Tiffany. Now, don’t misunderstand; Hyuk Jae never once hated or shown any dislike towards Tiffany.
In his point of view, Tiffany was a wonderful young lady whom he would have gotten along very well if she had been one of his sisters-in-law. The both of them would have enjoyed each other’s company if they had been connected because of Hyoyeon, not some stupid engagement.
The situation between them were less than enjoyable now; it was just plain awkward. Every single meeting they had, the past six of them, were in total awkwardness. They would sit in a café and pretend to chit-chat and put on fake smiles for one hour before moving to a quiet park and sitting there for another two. They would go to the park and play with their own gadgets while waiting, barely acknowledging each other’s presence. When the time was up, they would awkwardly bow to each other and walk in the opposite direction, each letting a huge sigh of relief.
Hyuk Jae arrived the dining table and sat down, taking a sip of his coffee. He started digging into his breakfast, only wanting to fill his stomach with a homemade breakfast after so long. Soon, his parents came down clad in their business suits.
Seeing their arrival, the son hurriedly gulped down his coffee and grabbed his jacket, heading for the door. He didn’t greet them nor gave them any sort of acknowledgement. Hyuk Jae had enough of those unnecessary fights; if they couldn’t respect his decisions, they sure as hell don’t deserve his respect too.
“Did that woman make you so ill-mannered too? Not even greeting your parents, Lee Hyuk Jae.”
And, that was the last straw of Hyuk Jae’s patience and respect for his parents. For the past fourteen days, he had been trying his best to keep his temper in control and tried understanding his parents. It was an impossible mission from the start, but Hyuk Jae had tried his best for the hope that his parents would finally be able to accept his relationship and call off the wedding.
But, no, they actually pulled out the lowest card of all, insulting his woman. Hyuk Jae was starting to think that his parents’ minds were lost out there somewhere, because they were trying to start a fight every single day. They seemed to like losing their temper and glaring at each other without a care in the world.
Where did the caring Umma and Appa he once had go to? Who were these… monsters that had replaced them?
Hyuk Jae had enough of their nonsense; he was going to stop it once and for all. He had given his all to be the obedient son and gave them enough time to switch their stupid thinking. If they were still going to stick to their idiotic decisions, he for sure wasn’t going to support them. He had found his true love, and he wasn’t going to give up.
“Umma, Appa, I’ve had enough. I love Hyoyeon, and Kim Hyoyeon will be the only one I love till I die. I will marry her and her only, with or without your blessings. Of course, it would be better with your blessings but you can’t seem to understand that we love each other.
Can’t you see that this whole engagement is hurting everyone? It’s hurting our relationships. Our whole family is apart, my love relationship is in pieces, Hyoyeon’s friendship is messed up. Do you even know that Hyoyeon and Tiffany are best friends? Have you ever stop to think how much hurt you’ve caused two innocentgirls?
I don’t mind if you hurt me, but Tiffany? Umma Appa, I’m not the only one who loves Hyoyeon. Tiffany loves her too. Right now, I’m going to fix the mess you caused. Kindly give me a call when you’re back to the old, caring parents I knew.”
With that whole speech that left his parents shocked, Hyuk Jae went out of the house letting out a sigh of relief.
The burden he had been carrying on his shoulders seemed so much lighter now. The next few steps would get rid of them, but it wasn’t going to be easy.
