Chapter 1: The Rules of Being Squid Girls In This Galaxy

The Male Leads Can't Leave Us Alone

Ahh...

Jennie sighed mentally as she laid her head sideways on the school desk, staring mindlessly at the clear blue sky separated from her by the window.

"I can hear your mental sigh from all the way over here," Rose chimed, mindlessly flipping through a Geography textbook in front of her.

Jennie lazily got off the table and stared at her fellow comrade with a sharp gaze. "Does this make sense to you?"

"No, it doesn't. Geography was never my strong suit," Rose replied, shooting daggers at the words on the page she was on.

Jennie clicked her tongue in annoyance. "Are you seriously looking at that right now?!"

Grabbing the Geography textbook from Rose's table, Jennie closed it and set it aside. "We're in a novel and you really want to study Geography? Have you suddenly lost it?"

Rose sighed as she leaned back in her chair. "What can we do about it? It's already happened. Let's just get used to it already."

Squinting her eyes and pressing her lips together, Jennie took in a deep breath as if to say a piece of her mind but alas, all that came out was a loud sigh. Anguish finally overcame her after 2 weeks of living as Jennie Ceion. "This is ridiculous. We were having drinks and snacks at my place and now we're in this situation. Are we being punished for getting so drunk, we out? Are we actually dead?"

Rose felt twitch as she recalled the first time she came into this world as Rose Thule, before pinching Jennie's thigh causing her to jolt in surprise. "I didn't want to drink with you that night but who was the one who dragged me? Hmm? Now we're both in this mess."

Jennie smiled awkwardly as she rubbed the sore spot on her right thigh that was just attacked by Rose's sneak pinch attack. "I didn't know this would happen either..."

Both sighing out loud, they wondered what sins they both committed to be suddenly transported into a teen romance novel that they were making fun of while being drunk out of their minds after a bad day at work. They were past the age to take a fancy to such trivial stories, but that night they wanted to laugh and let loose and found the perfect internet novel to bash. Both veterans of reading novels, with a combined power of over 3,000 novels read altogether, there was no trope left unturned by these two women. But being into a novel was definitely not on their life itinerary.

"We are way too old to be going through high school all over again," Jennie grumbled, before burying her face in her arms on the desk. Rose patted Jennie's back in empathy as two almost 30 year olds were definitely out of place in this high school romance story, though at the moment they were both bright, young, poreless 16 year-old freshmen.

The sharp shrill of the bell signaled the end of break time and both Jennie and Rose grumbled as they got up to head for Physical Education class. Making their way to the changing rooms with other classmates in tow, Jennie looked around at all the young, happy students who were enjoying their youth, not knowing that they were extras in a story.

"Ugh, I still can't get used to all these names," Rose complained, as she and Jennie reached a spot to change. Jennie smiled awkwardly as she listened in to the noises in the changing room.

"Did you watch that new music video, Aurora?"

"Luna! Try this! It smells really nice!"

"Oh my god, Venus! What happened to your shirt? That's hilarious! Hahaha!"

"Stella, can I borrow a hair tie?"

Jennie groaned inwardly as the cringe she felt enveloped her. The author surely had a for space and otherworldly things.

"I’m glad our names are still the same. It’s weird that it didn’t change, but I can’t complain," Rose stated, thankful she didn’t have a super fantasy galactic name.

"It would’ve been fun to have a space-y name though! Like… Aries or something," Jennie said, kind of bummed her name was still her old one.

“Don’t even,” Rose simply stated. Not bothering to deal with Jennie’s preferences.

Standing outside with all their other classmates waiting for everyone to come out for class to start, Jennie and Rose suddenly experienced what could only ever happen in a novel.

The ultimate cliché of clichés.

The slow motion stride of the four high ranking Adonis-like males of the freshmen year.

"ing hell..." both of them said out loud, in both disgust and amazement.

"Ahh! I thank my lucky stars for being born the same year as them!"

"Zenith! My male god!"

"Oh lord. Janus is so dreamy!"

"Take me, Phoenix! Ahh!!"

"Atlas is the coolest. I want him to freeze me with his gaze forever and ever..."

While all the girls (and some guys) were squealing and ogling over the four kings of this high school galaxy, Jennie and Rose were in the far back of all this commotion, both silently vibrating trying to hold in their laughs. At last, they couldn't help it and ran off to the girl's toilets nearby.

"What the hell was that? Ahahahaha! I know their names but hearing it out loud... Ahahahaha!" Jennie couldn't help but blurt out.

Rose echoed her sentiment with a boisterous laugh. "Zenith? Atlas? This author really!!"

Both of them took a while to calm down over the never ending bombardment of space-themed names before finally managing their expressions and walking back to the field.

"As expected of novel leads. They're really handsome," Jennie said as they took their place behind everyone present, waiting for the PE teacher. Rose nodded in agreement reluctantly, her eyes flitting between red, white, orange and purple. It made her crave for some fruit juice.

Subtly studying the four baby Adonis-like males, Jennie couldn't help but nod in approval of their looks, albeit the colourful mops of hair on their heads and strange but beautiful hues of their eyes.

Zenith Mond, the first male lead and the one who will ultimately end up with the female lead. Dark red hair fashioned in a clean-cut style with golden eyes that seemed to glow with every blink he took, chiseled features that were attractive in any place in any century and a lean build built through volleyball training. He would be flawless, if only his temperament was a little less fiery than his hair.

Janus Izar, the second male lead, his icy white hair with bangs that brush over his gentle light blue eyes contrasted aesthetically with his tanned skin, obtained from years of swimming since childhood. Like fire and ice, Janus had a calmer and kinder temperament than Zenith, making it a wonder how both of them were the best of friends since a young age.

Thirdly, the playboy of the group, Phoenix Celaeno. Choppy side swept turquoise hair with a shaven side of his head that strangely suited his aura and deep topaz eyes that were key in sweeping all the girls hearts away. His rambunctious and cheerful personality made him a hit everywhere he went.

Shaking her head in both adoration and disbelief, Jennie finally made her way to the last of these Adonis-like babies. Suddenly matching eyes with a pair of green eyes that shone brighter than any gem in the world, Jennie felt her heart tremble a little at the hostility those eyes projected.

What the hell, man, Jennie thought as she kept her gaze, not willing to back down from some kid. She could see his eyes soften a little, slight confusion apparent on his sweet yet manly face that was framed with black hair that seemed to emit a soft purple glow. He was the tallest of the four, his aloofness to the situation around him made it seem like he was above everyone else.

Ah, is this the famous cold on the outside, but sweet on the inside male lead? Definitely suits my taste. Ahh, I'll be rooting for you even though you won't win Celestia, Jennie thought as she casted a sympathetic gaze towards the boy whose visuals matched her preferences.

Jennie could see his expression get hard again as her expression softened thinking about how handsome he was, but somehow Jennie didn't want to lose this childish fight and kept her gaze locked on as if to challenge the boy. He looked away and Jennie felt triumphant before realizing she had just made the biggest mistake a transported-into-another-world person could make.

Getting attention from the gravitational force that is the circle of the male leads.
