Flashback: August 31st, 2020

"You know what, you seem to be doing just fine on your own, so I should just leave"

"Fine."

"Fine!!"

Present Day: August 31st, 2021

Remembering that exchange that took place on her 16th birthday, Wonyoung was in a very somber mood. She didn't want to get out of bed or do anything, and it was only 7AM. What a wonderful start to the day.

After pondering for a while what could've been if things had been different she decided she wanted to drown out the negative thoughts that came up when she thought of her one and only Yujin-unnie, so she just began to listen to music. Less than a minute in, tears just began to flow, because she heard these lyrics:

The longer she listened to the song the more she felt pain. Heartbreak, thinking about the result. Self-hatred towards herself, for letting herself do what she did. But most of all, longing for the person who she's kept out of her life for a year. She turns 17 today, but it hurts, oh so much.

Despite avoiding talking to her, she always saw Yujin around. And she wasn't alone, but with a new girl (Minju, she thinks it is). And heck, she looks so much happier. Wonyoung saw a smile on Yujin's face that she could never give to the latter. And it hurt so much seeing the girl she loves being happier with another girl.

She feels so stupid. She's letting the girl of her dreams stay on her mind while the other has clearly moved on to bigger and better things. Why can't she move on as Yujin did? Why can't-

"Nyoungie? What's wrong?"

Wonyoung never realized that what started as a couple tears had escalated into a full-on mental breakdown while sobbing. It got so loud that her best friend and roommate Nako had to check up on her. Nako checks her phone, sees the song that's been playing on repeat, and instantly rushes to try her best to surround the taller girl. She might be small, but her presence is a big part of Wonyoung's past year.

"I miss her, unnie. I miss her so much. And I know there's nothing I can do, because she's happier with Minju-unnie now. I threw away everything I had with her a year ago, and now I can't get her back in my life. Whyyyyyyyyy" She ended with a sad wail as her unnie did her best to calm her down. As Wonyoung calmed down, Nako pulled out her phone.

[small giant]: it's bad Min, she really misses Yujin a lot.

[monkey cymbals]: What happened?

[small giant]: she was listening to "Happier" today and she just started bawling

[monkey cymbals]: Oh no, Wonnie... :(

[small giant]: is yujin ready? i think it's time to heal

[monkey cymbals]: Well let's ask her
