Chapter One

Be Supernatural

Monday morning, my old nemesis. Farmgirl or not, 6am on a schoolday releases a special kind of stubbornness to wake up. I'll take it over another day of moping about the wolf situation, I can't seem to transform again, but I don't wish to. Irene, Sunmi and the other one, they haven't returned to me. Maybe things are better like this, when I'm just Kang Seulgi and they remain a memory. These might as well be my last words for you, dear journal.

"Seulgi, time to get out of bed! If you can do it to plow a field, you can do it to get yer to school!"

Mom, let's just say she means well. Groaning back a reply, Seulgi ended her drabbling and threw the leatherbound journal in her deepest deskdrawer, planning to not touch it anymore for a good while. Not like the following week at school would be worthy to write about, in all likelihood. Getting up from her seat with a soft sigh, the groggy girl took a trip to the bathroom, hoping it would freshen up her mood. Showering, blowdry a mop of messy black hair and brush it out. Summer had blessed Seulgi with a few freckles and a caramello tan, allowing her to skip the BB-cream in place of moisturizer. Curling her eyelashes and applying a cinnomon brown eyeshadow to highlight her monolidded visage, all done. The supposed shewolf made quick work of getting dressed, in a comfortably baggy white T-shirt, red leather jacket and black skinny jeans above lowtop white All Stars. Something was off about her image in the mirror, and the ways her clothes felt, but Seulgi didn't feel like finding out what it was. She would avoid the truth of what had happened to her, for all her current life was worth. Her peaceful, normal, human life.

With her schoolbag hung over one shoulder she walked downstairs, to be met by her parents. They were sitting around the dinner table, a sport related broadcast blared through the radio, her father listened intently, as mother finished the last batch of omelettes. Sarah Smith and Michael Smith were as country as they come, get up at dawn, work the land and eat big to keep the body going. They were Seulgi's adoptive parents, very obviously so. As Caucasian as she was Asian, but to Seulgi they were the only parents she had, never once did she love them less for the unusual bond they shared. All that she held on to, was her Asian name, Kang Seulgi.

She sat in her usual spot at the table and pricked two pancakes on her fork, lathered them in maple syrup before she munched them down as if they were a last meal. The Smits had long realized that scolding their daughter on her table manners, was a lost cause. This time however, Sarah looked at Seulgi with her eyes squinted, for so long until eventually the latter had to ask what the big deal was.

"Mom, you can keep looking at me, but it doesn't make my chewing any more to your liking. Your eggs are getting cold, too."

"It's not that, Seul. You seem...taller, a bit more swole in the arms. Did puberty have a second windin' with you or something? Yer almost as tall as your old man!"

So that's what is was, why the usually baggy clothes were a good fit, why the rolled up legs of her jeans seemed just a bit much. Why she was hungrier than ever before and felt like she could run a marathon without ever growing tired. Being a wolf translated to her human body as well, visibly at that. Seulgi weakly nodded at her mother's comments, happy that her father hadn't decided to chime in just yet. She celebrated too early. Michael looked up from his basebal radio broadcast, with a proud smile on his face, he stood up. A burly man, hardened by decades of physical labour, muscles of steel. Motioning Seulgi to get up, he clearly wanted to prove that the strongest of the family was still it's patriarch. With a deep sigh, the monolidded girl stood up and put her back against his, a 6'3 man, she couldn't possibly be taller than that. She was not.

"Hah! Yer still coming short, but only by an inch or two. I tell you Sarah, wasn't this kid nearly a foot shorter last time you saw 'er?"

Seulgi was sweating bullets by now, as her parents made jokes by themselves about their daughter having shot up in the air like a bamboo plant. It was a source of laughter for now, but soon they would be asking questions. What if more of her body changed? What if Sunmi had been right, that she hadn't even come close to a perfect transformation. That there was more in store. She had to leave before this tension became too visible on her face. Gripping her schoolbag in a balled fist, she waved her parents goodbye and made her exit. Let's hope it wasn't too late to catch her bus.

One uneventful busride later, Seulgi set foot on the Deville High schoolyard, looking around for familiar faces. She didn't have to wait for long, as they spotted her leaning against one of the many willowtrees that were planted there. Joy was first to come running. A tall girl, eyes like a deer but the vigor of a tigress, with her long black hair and killer gazes, it was a mystery why a modelling agency had not hired her on the spot by now. Giving Seulgi a big smile and a tight hug, Joy noticed the difference between them. While she had a reasonable height advantage before, Seulgi had swiftly turned those roles around in the time they were apart. Pouting at her childhood friend, Joy wanted to state the obvious, before she was halted by a tackle hug that had more force put into it than intended. Yeri had done it again, the youngest and feistiest of their group, light brown hair and a friendly smile, she was always up for teasing Joy.

"Hey Seul, was what I wanted to say. You got huge, or maybe it's just because Yeri thinks we're on a rugby field. Newsflash, a tackle hug does not mean flooring your upperclassmen, Yerim!"

"Good morning, Joy. Yea, I got the memo- You've really been getting the most out of martial arts, haven't you Yeri? I don't think she'll dare to reject you now.."

"You say that as if she wants to! Joy's just playing her usual hard to get, you of all people should know that."

Seulgi couldn't help but laugh at the two girls who now laid sprawled onto the grass, offering them her hands and pulling them up. Her three best friends in the whole wide world, down to two for now. As if Joy remembered the missing girl at the exact same moment, she took out her phone and showed the chatlog to both Yeri and Seulgi.

"Wendy's still in Korea, she's having a good time, still misses us though. Her family just had to make a move to their homeland..."

The bell rang, time for class. Seulgi and Joy as Seniors in the same class, Yeri as a Sophomore. They parted ways, with Seulgi playfully ruffling her junior's hair and being swatted off by the latter. English class, where they either pretended to read Hamlet or watched the movie.

Strutting into the classroom with Joy by her side, the wolf in human's clothing looked around for a good place to sit, smiling at some of her classmates and exchanging vague greetings. That was when she noticed them. Sitting together in the corner seats, the ones who she wished to be a dream. The ones who she knew to be vampires, one of which greeted her with a dazzling smile and retracted fangs. Irene, the one who left her a kiss. Seulgi nearly stopped breathing, rendered unable to move by fear once more. By unseen forces, she was then compelled to step up and leave Joy behind, taking a seat next to Irene. Sunmi smiled gleefully, clearly she possessed more power than the average vampire. The third vampiress leaned in from behind this time, her voice soft as snow and just as cold.

"I haven't introduced myself yet, but I'm Taeyeon. Sorry Wolfie, looks like you're not done with us just yet, Irene wants you and we have ulterior motives. Don't bother alerting anyone, they won't believe you, nor will they ever escape Sunmi's control. She was a witch before she was a vampire, you see."

Irene brushed back her blonde hair, tongue visibly rubbing over her lips at the sight of her prey that got away two nights prior. Shifting her seat closer to Seulgi, she boldly reached out, her hand sliding below the wolf's T-shirt, sharp nails raking over her skin. No one saw, Sunmi's magic was subtle enough that both students and the teacher, were all looking in other directions, reading a book or sinking away in their phone. Even Joy had taken a seat and didn't pay any mind. Seulgi wanted to run, to tear herself away from this situation, but as Irene touched her, roughly but yet so sweetly. She couldn't help but turn red to her ears at these whispered words.

"Got a little built overnight, didn't you? It's a shame, but all dogs have muscle to make up for lack of finesse. Don't worry, you're still delicious to me. So much so, that I want a piece right now..."

Coyly putting her head against Seulgi's shoulder, Irene noted how much stronger the wolf beside her had gotten. Stronger than the human she once was, but nothing against a vampire. Not in this form. Still an easy prey, for her to sink her teeth in. Moving closer and closer to Seulgi's neck with an open mouth, Irene was about to just that. Until she couldn't no more. Sunmi's glare was unmistakeable, not now.

"Irene, my magic can only manipulate so much. Our plan was that you take dear Seulgi to your place after school, once she thanks you for us not following a much easier method. Simply swiping our little husky from her home and leaving her family for dead, though I admit she certainly wouldn't take a liking to you after that~"

The eager hand pulled away from her abdomen, as Irene retreated from advancing on Seulgi any further. Not knowing what to think about this, or how to feel, Seulgi felt Sunmi's grasp on her slowly release. She stood up and moved, with her, the entire class came to life once more. Reality manipulation, was there anything these vampires couldn't manage? Did they even have anything that could stop them? It was a sunny day out and Taeyeon basked in it's warm light that shone through the window, Irene could tolerate the scent of a wolf. Sunmi didn't seem to have any weaknesses either, quite the opposite. So many questions, but the English teacher didn't allow her to think on it.

"Miss Seulgi, please take a seat. I know most of you by name, as does everyone in Deville. But I am pleased to announce some new faces from Korea, or rather- How about you introduce yourselves?"

It was a slight change in demeanor, but Seulgi noticed it, these three did not like to be commanded by humans. Taeyeon sent daggers Sunmi's way, for releasing her bound on reality, but at last she got up. After her, the others followed suit.

"I'm Kim Tae-Yeon, pleased to meet you all."

"Bae Joohyun, likewise."

"Lee Sun-Mi, transfer student."

Perfect Korean names, no one doubted a thing about them. Seulgi wondered if these were their names in life, or if the three had a wide web of aliases to pull from. Probably the latter, but it wasn't of much importance. All that mattered was that they were here for her, and did not plan on leaving empty handed from the looks of it. Thrilling, that was the word. A mystery that might become a fatal one. First off, Irene wanted her, an idea that made Seulgi's heart nearly burst out of her chest. On the assumed condition she was compliant, the former wouldn't harm her or anyone else beyond recognition, but what about the other two? Sunmi was interested in her transformations and time of turning, Taeyeon had confirmed that there was more than one reason for their visit. Vampires and werewolves were mortal enemies, even the once so opposed to superstitions Seulgi knew as much. What they sought after with her was likely a way to meddle into this conflict of the supernatural.

I'm really getting the hang of this.

Seulgi sat down on a seat behind Joy, who turned around with a grin, 'The Great Gatsby' in her hand but it was obvious she had not read a letter of the book. With a side-eye to Irene, she wiggled her eyebrows at her childhood friend. Attempting to keep up a pokerface, Seulgi failed miserably at ignoring the curious girl, sighing before she decided to humor her.

"What is it?"

"Don't give me that, Seul! Three of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen walk in here and one's been staring at you for half an hour at least. I know you've gained a few inches, but that can't be the whole story. Is she someone you like?"

"Not really...Look, Joy. I don't know who they are, but they've been chummy with me. Maybe because I look Korean, as well. Just don't pry into it too much and let it rest for once, please."

It was frustrating, not being able to tell the full truth to a friend she shared everything with. But Taeyeon and Sunmi had been clear, they weren't to be outed, or else horrible repercussions would follow. Even if there was no threat, telling the truth in this case would sound like a lie. The tale where Seulgi's inner wolf drags her back to a forest, encounters vampires during their nightly skinny dipping, one becomes infatuated and decides to infiltrate into her daily life. No one would believe it. The look in Seulgi's chocolate brown eyes was worrisome enough for Joy to turn back around, slightly hurt by her friend's words. As if she was one to pry, as if she wasn't Korean, she knew there was something more. If only Wendy were here, she had a way of calming the group down, whenever frustration arose. But she wasn't, nothing was the same anymore. Perhaps it wouldn't ever be the same.

The schoolday went by rather quickly for once. Each class more sullen than the other, it was the first day after all, not even teachers could muster a lot of enthusiasm. Seulgi would have felt indifferent to it all, if it weren't for the knowledge that three pairs of eyes were burned into her backside nearly constantly. Even in the bathroom, or during lunch break, one of them was there at all times, they were like leeches. By now all that Seulgi wanted was to go home, do her chores and then lay in bed with one of her many bear plushies. After the last class ended, Joy left with Yeri, clearly still upset with what her friend had said. The werewolf who could not turn was left by herself in the schoolyard once again, waiting for what seemed like an eternity. When even some teachers had started to exit the schoolbuilding and the sun went down, that was when her captors revealed themselves once more. Seulgi didn't doubt that they had made her wait, either for a reason or for their own enjoyment. They had an eternity with no one to answer to, waiting until sundown meant nothing to them. The hopelessness of her situation had slowly began to dawn, so much that she felt like crying out in anger.

They exited the schoolgates, Irene leading the trio with Sunmi and Taeyeon quietly talking amongst themselves. Now Seulgi could see why they waited, for their eyes were burgundy once more and their fangs no longer concealed. Irene gave her prey a cruel, elated smile when she walked over to where the monolidded girl sat, bearing her fangs and leaning in before she stopped. Seeming to take note of the tears welling up in her prey's eyes, she wavered for a mere second, before her crimson lips straightened out again. Seulgi saw that she wanted to speak, but didn't give her a chance to take control. Not this time, it was enough.

"...Who do you think you are, Bae Joohyun? Or Irene, it doesn't matter who you are, I don't care. You tell me that you've taken a liking to me and touch me as if you're my lover. You may think you treat me as such, but all you do is cause me pain. From the moment you've met me, you haven't explained a single damn thing! All you've done is show up and exercised control over my life, and why? I don't know you, you don't know me. I'm going to make this easy on you, what do you want from me? If you can't even answer that, then please live your eternal life and leave mine alone."

Seulgi stood up on her full height, towering above Irene but shaking in absolute fear of the monster in front of her. She knew that if the blonde wanted to, one hit would be fatal. But she had been silent for far too long, too many questions and zero valuable answers. Her entire life was rattled, who she was or the future she had aspired to have, it had all been a lie. She needed to know. Irene didn't move a muscle, but for the first time since Seulgi had seen her, her eyes were full of life. As if she had witnessed something precious, rather than an angry breakdown by someone who resented her. As if she knew the wolf in front of her through and through, and recognized a part she held dear. Her answer was composed, and strict.

"I will tell you that in due time, Kang Seulgi. You need to know only thing, you have loved me before. Come with me, I will make your stay worthwhile."

"For now, I'm afraid you have very little choice in the matter."

Seulgi's arms were promptly pulled back and drawn behind her, completely locked in place by Taeyeon, who's hands might as well be a concrete seal. Forced on her knees, the girl was met with Sunmi's fingers pointed to her head once more, but this time she didn't give in to the magic at work. Her eyes burned as they had during that full moon, and a low snarl left her lips, rage made her stronger. She felt her fangs erupting and the hold on her steadily weakening. It was still not enough, but the pain caused by Sunmi's magical current hurt all the more.

"Do not fight for your life, dear. I've made your loved ones forget about you for now, no one will know and no one will care. We will take you to Irene's lair and there you will get answers, now sleep. Gashina..."

The unending pain once more, harder than before. All I saw were Irene's eyes, as they looked away from me before I fell unconscious. I did not wake up in my own room this time around, but inside a canopy bed, with white satin sheets below and a chandelier above me. She was there, by my side, more beautiful than ever, Joohyun. The vampire who was inexplicably drawn in by a wolf. I sat up, but was pushed back immediately as the blonde vampiress took a scroll from her nightstand, red with gold. Inside it was a rolled up piece of parchment, which she spread out to reveal something that said more than a thousand words. A portrait of me and her, black and white ink was all that remained of it as the color had long faded. But even in this state, I recognized her face and mine, it was a picture before there were cameras to take one. Irene rubbed her ice cold hand through my hair, before she spoke.

"Seulgi, my Seulgi...I have waited half a millennium for you."

Dear journal, I think they really aren't going to make me forget.

Author's Note:

Thank you all for reading along, chapter one is always the hardest, trying to set a tone and introduce minor characters. I remain uncertain about the change of perspective between first person (journal written parts) and third person (all other parts), being a good choice. Feel free to send criticism and ideas my way, I'm always looking for input from other writers.

Sorry for the slow pace of this story, but I want to keep some parts of it a mystery instead of feeding the whole dish right away. One thing is for certain, that is the existence of a wolf tribe who Seulgi will soon come in contact with, here she will get to know her origins and why she was put up for adoption. Conflict with said wolf tribe is exactly what Sunmi and Taeyeon want, what nearly all vampires want. Yes, there are more. Irene isn't really interested in any of that however. She has a past with Seulgi, a bond that goes beyond time. I will further explain this in upcoming chapters.

Feel free to request idols who you want to see as vampires or wolves, Solar and Moonbyul excluded. I have plans for them-
