Chapter 1: A lot of people are wondering why yunjae didn't end up together, but I kind of get it.
Call me weird, but I liked the fact that they didn't end up together, because it fits both their characters, and it fits the plot.
Jaejoong is very fragile with a lot of insecurities, and he's had many bad and failed relationships that he's blamed himself for. Yunho is like his anchor, like the plank that keeps him afloat. But he can never cross the line of 'family' between them, because he's scared.
He's scared that if they date, their relationship would eventually fail because of him, he's scared that if he breaks up with Yunho then he'd lose him forever, and then he'd be truly unrepairably broken.
Jaejoong knows that by staying as family he's being selfish, unfair, and is hurting Yunho. That makes Jaejoong more hurt, miserable, and self-loathing that he was before, but to him it's okay, because it's better than losing Yunho, anything would be better than that.
Same thing for Yunho, he doesn't stay with Jaejoong just because he loves, but also because Jaejoong desperately needs him. Yunho knows that by staying with Jaejoong he's not only hurting himself but also hurting Jaejoong and making him feel guilty all the time. But for Yunho it's also better than losing Jaejoong. That's why Yunho also never crossed the line of 'family'between them. Because staying in each other's lives is more important.
In that sense, they both can't be without each other but can't be together either, they lived their whole lives together but not really together. I think this is the essence of the intermediatus in this plot. This is the grey that is neither black or white, but is logically yet contradictingly both of them.
This is truly a brilliant work of literature. It's short and apparently simple, but with so much depth & meaning to dig into, so many connections to make. I love how you were able to convey so much about all the characters and their relationships through these few scenes. It's like you dropped hints and pieces here and there that when put together created the big intermediatus picture I concluded.
