The Kiss Code

Description

This is about Kim Yeol.

and her way to dealing with her friends, school, life, and... particular someone.

Foreword

My name is Kim Yeol. A 17 years old third-grader in Neo Cul-Tech High. I am an average student in my class which makes me an average in entire school too. I have a long, wavy, thick hair. Sometimes it looks healthy and bouncy. The other time, it only looks greasy and kind of Hagrid.

I aspire to be just ordinary and living my life as simple as I can. I never really put my my standard high. Just so I would not expect too much from myself. Yes, I am such a coward on taking risks. But hey, I’m still alive.

Do you think it’s easy to be me? NO! It was never been.

I have three best friends -the closest people I hanged out with the most- from the very first day of high school. Unlike the common choice most people from my old school came with,  I decided to attend different school farther from my neighborhood. And it felt like a whole new world for me.

If I was just an average, my friends were faaaaar from that. Ahn Joohee -or we like to call her A.J.- is one of shining star from drama club. Lots of people said she grasp and deliver emotion well and they would not doubt if she will become an actress someday. Although her goal in the future is simply being a housewife who watches drama on television and judges the characters in it while having a bowl of cereal on her lap.

Im Seol, she is the captain of girl’s tennis club. Do not imagine Serena Williams with perfectly built and fit body. Seol, even though she’s still fit, happens to be tall and thin, just like the It-girl from the movie. She has long hair which she likes to color different colour for different tournament she ever had. She likes to be stand out so much, just as much as she like nail arts and fake tattoo on her skin.

Lee Hana, the youngest of us, is a flower of photography club. She joined the club just for fun but being the only girl in club, she got so much attention from fellow members to extent, they were not accepting another girl in the club because Lee Hana was, is, and always be the only person ever. Rather than learning about photography skill, Hana learned a lot about how to act and pose as a model for her members and the club even release some exclusive photobook of Lee Hana to make an easy money and it was a big success because mostly it always sold out, especially when our school held a festival.

And what about me? I didn’t attend school club because I understand I didn’t have any talent nor passion on anything so I decided to become the part of school’s library. Sounds boring, huh? But it gave me connections to most of the people in school, like the smartest kids from school and also teachers. Some time I got an early notes for later exam so I have more time and more subjects to learn than my class. Even though still almost every time I didn’t get the perfect score for my exams. Another benefit, I got full access to every pieces of books, journals, notes, and even computer (and internet!) in school which not only about school subject but also entertainment and fiction.

I feel really blessed within my limit on everything, my friends are welcoming me and accepting me for who I am. Despite the differences, we match really well to each other. It’s like having the other pieces of puzzle that complete you perfectly.

Only sometime, when all of them seems like more expressive and honest with everything, I feel left out. I don’t know why it feels like there’s a barrier that separate me with the three of them. I didn’t remember the first time I feel that way but the more I think of it, the stronger the feeling has become.

“Guys, do you know her?” Seol shows her phone for three of us to see. It’s not take a long time for AJ to recognize the so-called girl in the picture.

“Isn’t it Vitamin Sunny?” AJ asks back, “She’s sooo gorgeous. Her face is really small and her body uh, GOALS!”

AJ enthusiastically explains which I could only frown. I enjoyed social media just as much as my friends but for different purposes *cough*fangirling**cough*.

“Oh my god, yes. Her style is also chic. Isn’t she now with that model..who is he again, er Kim Woo Jin?”

With the addition from Hana, the three of them hysterically yells in unison, excitedly. Then there goes the conversation about how that girl and that model is such a HIT couple of instagram. Apparently, Vitamin Sunny is like the influencer in social media. Her real name is Sunhee but she goes with her ‘viral’ name, Sunny and got the nickname of Vitamin because she’s so beautiful, bright, and funny that tend to energizes people who watch her. Up to that explanation, I still tried to get involved in the conversation but the further I tried, the further I felt lost.

I was so into my game when my friend starts already starts another topic. Only when I run out of energy to play in game, I found what they were talking about.

“How am I supposed to describe it?” I look at AJ whose cheeks are glowing in pinkish shade. She seems embarrassed about something.

“I can’t really remember but I thought it was the guy from our school back then. It was summer break and instead of sweet and romantic, it was dry and boring. It went so fast like a blink of eye,” AJ sighs.

“I wasn’t paying attention while dealing with some stuff and he just did without my permission. He thought I was hitting on him the whole summer when I just being nice,” she rolls her eyes.

“Ow, I’m so sorry to hear that,” Seol pats her right shoulder and AJ nods with a pout in her face. They exchange looks before Hana starts to tell her story.

“Alright, I’m going to be honest here, but you know how I wasn’t the type who care much about relationship stuff, not until I met Baekhyun oppa and he stole my heart entirely,” AJ and Seol giggles to that and I only half smirk, still trying to process.

“But no one ever know, and you guys too because we never really talked about it before, my first kiss was with my former neighbor,” Hana says and I finally understands what are they talking about.

Oh, crap! I silently swears under my breathe. My mind went blank once again while Hana is talking about with who and how her first kiss happened in 8th grade in the background.

Not this one too, I mentally pray. And as much as I want to get excited just like how AJ and Seol melts in every detail of Hana’s first kiss which sounds to be sweet and memorable, or just fake awe-ing, I cannot bear to pretend that I was at least, relate to them.

What do you expect from such an average girl? A teenage drama that full of freedom spirit and romance?

And for once again, when Seol turns to me to ask me -maybe about the same topic-, I already managed to fix my eyes on my phone, playing games again.

“What, what, sorry can’t be disturbed,” I inform while acting like I was in some mission on the game. I can feel their excitement goes down but as usual, they play along with my excuse.

Haaah.. may be I should consider joining theater club later.

Chapter 1: I enjoyed the first chapter. It's simple not rushed. I'm curious to know more about the female lead (I forgot her name) on how she will develop and how things will be with her and Jaehyun!
Your grammar is alright, some is a bit off but its readable. It's ok if English isnt your first language.
I'm looking forward for the next chapter! ^^
