Moments

A first date between highschool lovebirds ended in front of Baekhyun’s suburban home, the front porch light softly illuminating his partner’s face. Strong features, tan skin, eyes rich chestnut and a warm red sweater that brought out his tone. Baekhyun very muchly liked Chanyeol, the longing stares in Chemistry had somehow emerged to this moment. They had been exchanging messages for the past two weeks. Casual flirting and blushed glances in school corridors was the sum total of their relationship until this night, this moment.

Chanyeol had taken him to see a play, a local Shakespeare company performing Othello in their small rundown theater that always smelt like woodsmoke and beer. The theatre could not keep the winter chill out due to it’s thin walls, the boy had to lean into each other. Baekhyun wondered if this was intentional, his heart pounded. "It's a bit cool, isn't it?" Chanyeol whispered during intermission. Baekhyun attempted to brush it off, he did not want to appear weak in any way in front of Chanyeol but he shuddered. Chanyeol chuckled softly, "Come here." He said and wrapped an arm around Baekhyun. The lean over the armrest was uncomfortable, but Baekhyun did not dare to move. He felt Chanyeol's heart beating steadily and cursed the pounding in his chest. Why couldn't he be cool for once?

“I hope you had fun, Baekhyun,” Chanyeol started after a moment of silence and Baekhyun couldn’t help but smile. “I had more than enough. Thanks for, uh,” He faltered and Chanyeol laughed lightly. His arms reached out and held Baekhyun’s shoulders. Baekhyun could no longer feel his heart beating, it seemed to have gone supersonic. The hands ran down Baekhyun’s arms, the cotton material of his button down catching on Chanyeol’s dry hands. Those dry hands stopped halfway down, and gripped firmly. Baekhyun’s lips parted in surprise as Chanyeol drew him closer. His breath forming small clouds.
“You don’t need to use words,” Chanyeol said, softly. Their faces were mere millimeters apart, from here Baekhyun could see that Chanyeol’s dark eyes were shaking. He was nervous too. In a moment of bravery Baekhyun pressed his lips to Chanyeol’s. He felt Chanyeol relax and realised that he never noticed that the other was tensing, he brought his arms up to wrap them around Chanyeol’s neck. His pale skin was luminous in the night, they were a like a Van Gogh painting. Their colours blending into each other but remaining distinct all the same. Their mouths moved slowly, it was tender and soft. They felt like the world around them was just an illusion, they were here; suspended in eternity.

After what seemed to be an eternity they parted. “You’re very welcome,” Chanyeol said with a smile. Baekhyun couldn’t help but beam. It began to snow, the pure white settling in his black hair. With that they said goodnight and Chanyeol watched as Baekhyun entered his home. With a smile, hands in his trouser pockets, Chanyeol turned his back and walked home. He did not feel the stare of the puppy-eyed boy peeking through his thick curtains with a red-hot face.

They parted ways only a few months later over differences, but the moment of that kiss was one that stayed in the back of their minds for the rest of their lives.
