A Rose's Guilt

Wizards Of The Coast

Her eyes clouding with unshed tears, blurring her vision as she stumbled to her bed. The pain attacking with gripping lashes at her heart. The thought of darkness comforting her torment as she sobbed in her room.

A new found addiction itching in her veins and skin wishing to be released. Such bliss only could be released with sharpened loathing. She refused to obey such thoughts even she couldn't help but feel the weight on her shoulders.

It was her fault, wasn't it? After all, if she'd been there perhaps things wouldn't have gone the way they did. She clutched at his jacket holding it in a tight embrace as she sobbed into it. Sobs wracking her entire body with pain and guilt.

She could've protected him if she didn't run away if she didn't leave when he was at his weakest like everyone else.

She twirled one of his cigarettes absentmindedly, her thoughts lingering on the words spoken by Jennie. She couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at the thought.

Though she shouldn't think too much into it. After all, she was the last one to see him. Apparently, from her words, Yoongi had been making amends for all his wrongs.

Even if they were the ones who needed to make amends.

After all while, she left because of him and his deterioration. He was still left to bear the mantle. The responsibility of a Wizard.

Something they all promised to share growing up.

She focused on the lie of a death stick in her hand. A small facsimile of his image.

She'd always yelled at him to quit smoking, something he'd started doing after Jennie left. Though she did suppose it was better than alcohol. Which would've been a terrible concoction with the potency of his rage.

Her mind lingering on old conversations, mainly arguments.

"You've got stop poisoning yourself Yoongi!" She yelled as she threw the carton at him. The contents spilling across the floor at his fate. She could've never read him and his iron faced eyes. Like the concoction of words and thoughts failing to mix together into a coherent statement.

His mouth opened and closed before he faltered behind a frown. Slowly picking up his addiction. "It's not that easy Roro... Life isn't that easy."

She wished now that she hadn't been so quick to jump the gun that day. She should've been there for him helping him through his pain. Not adding on to his burden.

After all, underneath his hardened exterior forged by the flames of being a wizard, he was still the sick boy she knew growing up.

"She's gone Yoongi," she stated bluntly like a wrecking ball through a wall. Only now can she pick out the small grimace in his eyes.

He never was good at asking for help. Especially after becoming a Wizard.

"If she ever comes back she's only going to toy with you again," her face deepening into a frown. Her tone singing of discontent and disappointment. "And you'll always follow her like a lost puppy."

His face switching from self-loathing to anger as he crushed the carton in his hand. His hands trembled with anger as his breathing became shallow. His eyes fighting the conflict in his brain holding back the words on his tongue. Electrical energy faintly crackling at his fingertips before his breathing finally settled.

A deep sigh leaving his lips as he dropped the carton and left.

She didn't know the sound of his boots leaving would haunt her so much today.

She heard a subtle knock on her door hastening her. She quickly grabbed his things and all her relevant things.

It would be the first time she'd see the hideout in years.

Soyeon pulled who car over into the shipyard. It had been well-known in the department that Black Tiger used the shipyard as a front for a bunch of operations.

Not that it could be proven in court.

She was astounded when she saw the crime scene. Scattered bricks littered the scene. It would seem there was an explosion from the main storeroom on the top floor.

She also noticed the smattering of corpses launched from the storehouse. Her pen noting down three in the immediate vicinity of the destroyed wall. Which suggested they fell from the hole *after* the explosion. Which was a weird thought especially since there were signs of electrical burns on their bodies. Matching the MO of whoever killed the other goons and Black Tiger.

Which honestly worried her.

She was quickly brought out of her thoughts and notes when she felt a tap on her shoulder. Her eyes meeting with a smartly dressed detective who was wolfing down a doughnut as he offered her a coffee. While she would question his ability as a detective for tampering with a crime scene by bringing food.

She needed the coffee.

Which she graciously accepted. "Detective Jung I suppose," she greeted before drinking the sweet elixir of life.

"I prefer to go by the name Hoseok," he greeted with a bright smile. She was surprised due to the usually gruesome nature of the job. He offered his hand in greeting. His silence indicated he wanted her name.

"Jeon Soyeon," She supplied as she shook his hand. She noted the ruggedness of two of his fingertips. Which was likened to a guitarist. Which surprised her slightly after all it was a typical feature.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Soyeon," his warm smile returning. "It would seem we could nickname ourselves the JJ's."

She couldn't help but smile at his antics. Even if they were slightly childish.

"What are your thoughts on the case, Detective Jung?" She asked wanting to compare notes. Until of course he gave her a look which she couldn't decipher.

"Hoseok," he uttered pointing at himself to convey his point. Causing her to roll in eyes in submission.

"Fine, Hoseok. What're your thoughts?" She asked again with a slight chuckle.

"Well judging from the trajectory of their drop as well as the fact there's only one destroyed wall suggests there was no explosion," He states blankly as he stirs his coffee. While it didn't seem likely it did match the facts.

"That'd mean they were pulled or launched through the wall with whatever launched through that building," He stated as he began walking up towards the storeroom. She followed quickly behind him after all he seemed better with crime scenes at least.

Even if didn't have good etiquette.

However, as he began walking up metal stairs she couldn't help but can a small sharp electric shock. Which only made her question what kind of weapon could create such a force.

When she reached the main storeroom she only more questions. It would seem even Hoseok was confused. Her eyes scanning over the vault door or what was left of it.

A huge hole lay like a scar across the front of the vault. Like someone held the strength of a thermal lance in their hands. Perhaps even stronger than that. Hoseok looked like he was actually impressed. But it did beg the question of why.

After all most of the content was still inside. At least as far as she could tell. It's not like she could ask Black Tiger considering his current state. However, on closer inspections, she noticed the brunt of the damage came from the interior.

"Do you think he got stuck in the vault?" She suggested looking from the inside. She found a small blood splatter in the corner. Looked like it came from skinning his knuckle. She quickly decided to get a sample to give to a lab tech.

"That'd be the only explanation," He agreed simply before raising an eyebrow. "I'm surprised that you're so on board with the idea a person did this."

"Well no matter how much I logically look at it. There's just no way you can explain it within the parameters of reality. However, if you add such an idea as a parameter then it starts to make sense. It would also explain how we haven't been able to bring Black Tiger." She explained logically. She couldn't ignore the possibility either especially after what happened with Rosé.

.

Things clicked in place at that thought and it seemed Hoseok realised from her expression. The metal on Yoongi's arms, the electrical burns they made everything click into place.

"I need to find Rosé," She muttered quickly grabbing her stuff in a hurry. Rosé was the lynchpin to all of this. She probably knew the very nature of the incident.

"Rosé?" He asked curiously but not in the way she expected. His mouth making the movements with familiarized finesse. Which drew an alert to her brain.

Which gave her an idea.

"She's my new lead," she simply stated before walking off leaving Hoseok confused for a moment before she stopped. "You coming or what JJ?"

Her mind absent as she adjusted the radio in her car before realizing that'd probably be better if there was nothing on.

"So why did everyone leave Rosé?" She asked looking into the younger girl's eyes. Despite how hard she tried to hide it the girl had no doubt been crying.

"It depends on who you ask Jennie," She answered with a look of gloom. It had been that rough had it? Seems like she left at a good time. However, before she could turn the radio back on the girl spoke up again. "Perhaps it too tense after you left. Hell, I don't even think anyone thought about leaving until you did."

A hint of scathing discourse in her voice as she uttered those words. However, they were restrained like a dog on a leash. It seemed like she didn't want to fight over the fact. "It wasn't my kind of show Rosé, you know that."

She sighed in response. "It wasn't just that Jennie. Yoongi... he changed after you left."

It only caused her to raise an eyebrow in response. Sure the dude had some problems but didn't they all? "In what way?" She asked tentatively almost afraid to open a can of worms with her name on it.

"He became more reclusive. Though I suppose that's because he was losing control of his power. His anger would lash out at even the slightest aggravation..." She in a shallow breath at the memories. "Namjoon was the only one who stuck around. Even while he destroyed himself and those in his path."

Jennie could from the look in her she blamed herself for the path he ended taking. However, she couldn't help but think about the man he had become as a result. More measured, controlled almost tranquil in comparison. She'd no idea that he'd cared so much about her. She thought it was just puppy love at the time.

"I'd have never thought," she stated softly to herself. Rosé ears perking up at the statement. "He just seemed so measured and in control when I saw him. He no longer threw his weight around recklessly. Always sought that quickest way with the least bloodshed to get things done."

Rosé couldn't help but offer a weak smile in response to the comfort. A question tickling her mind. "How come you came back to Coast City?" She asked obviously curious about her adventures.

"Nostalgia," she lied with her signature smile. The girl didn't need to know just yet. Not when they were finally getting along something that didn't happen too often when they were Wizards. "How's old man Seungri?"

"No one knows. I suppose the only one that did was Yoongi," she pointed out. Seungri did right by them even if he didn't always explain things to everyone. After all, he taught them how to control their powers. Well those of them who were more magically inclined like Namjoon, Jennie and herself. "I have a question for you Jennie."

"What's that?" She asked raising an eyebrow. It was unlike the girl to not just ask the question.

"Do you ever wonder why the Wizards were made? Why Seungri would lecture us on responsibility and sacrifice so much?" She asked even though she knew part of the answer. After all, a vaccine isn't made for no reason.

"... I don't suppose I did. After all, we were nothing but kids when we joined. Though joined isn't exactly the right word considering we didn't have much choice in the matter," she pointed out as she mused on the idea further. "Though I suppose there had to be some reason. Probably also the reason why Yoongi wanted to get all of us back together."

Jennie slowly pulled the car into the hideout. An old refurbished hotel on the outskirts of the city.

"This place always had the best views," Rosé mused with a smile. She was obviously glad to be back here. After all, it was a symbol of a better time in her life.

But she wasn't wrong. It was originally used as a tourist spot looking over the sword coast. Which was named after the plethora of medieval wars fought on the beach below. Until it's eventual abandonment before the turn of the century. For reasons, they hadn't been able to find out.

Her brain screamed at her as she opened the lobby door causing her to hesitate slightly only to see a purple flared projectile arc toward her. Her body barely reacting in time. However, it wasn't enough as it skimmed across her shoulder. Her skin protected by a faint glow of white energy.

It'd seem while she'd been slacking Rosé had shielded her with her faith. A pleased smile crossing her face as Jennie turned towards her. The bolt of energy trailing her outstretched hands as she redirected the bolt with finesse. Her body moving like an entranced dancer as she did so.

The bolt of energy arcing across the lobby only to be caught in a familiar hand.  "You're getting slow there Jennie," she said with a teasing smile her purple head of hair coming into full view as the air around her warped ever so slightly. "Good work there Rosé."

Rosé was pleased with the older girl's compliment of her abilities.

"It's been awhile Jisoo," Jennie said with a smile. Despite her absence from the group she'd missed the older female quite a bit. After all, she was a source of comfort and wisdom. Even if she could be an odd person. "How have you been? Aside from being a famous *thief*."

She stood there in silence. She was surprised she knew about that and judging from Rosé reaction towards the words she wasn't too surprised.

opened in protest only to be shut down by Rosé. "Come on Jennie we all knew that you would become one as soon as you left. After all, it came naturally to you," Rosé pointed out with a weak smile. "Hoseok was the only one who was better at it. But we all know he wouldn't dare."

"At least you've kept your tools sharp," Jisoo added with a smile which softened her exterior. "Granted not sharp enough to dodge too well."

Jennie laughed in response. It would seem she got too used to dealing with regular people.

"Do you have any idea where Yoongi is?" Jisoo brought up suddenly concern in her eyes. Honestly, it broke her heart that she'd have to explain what happened to him. "Mainly because I found something *concerning* in our absence."

Must've been something bad if Jisoo was concerned. After all, she was one of the stronger if not the strongest out of all of them. Her ability limited to how much she wanted to play around before getting serious.

Jennie noticed Rosé's frown at the idea of having to deliver such news to Jisoo. However, as she contemplated the idea she felt something brush up against her mind. Which was an undeniably gross feeling.

"Huh," Jisoo said with a frown crossing her face. It was weird seeing the usually bubbly female frown. It would seem she had some sort of fondness for the recently deceased. "That's quite a shame."

Luckily for Jennie, she made no further mention of the cause of death. No doubt information she had previewed in her brain. "You know he was so much better at dodging than you two," she pointed out with a weak smile.

It was a weird sentiment but perhaps it was the odd girl's way of showing appreciating him. He did have a sort of spider sense in regards to danger though.

Rosé couldn't help but watch the exchange in confusion until she felt the same uneasy feeling brush against her mind. Her sense of guilt fading ever so slightly as a result. "Don't blame yourself," Jisoo words echoing through her mind.

However, with the brief invisible contact, she could feel a hint of sadness emanate off of Jisoo. While Jisoo didn't openly state it she'd miss the boy's blunt nature. Which was oddly refreshing considering she never had to read his mind to know what he thought.

Jisoo smiled noting Rosé reading her back before turning towards Jennie. "Looks like we've got a lot of work to do," she stated with a loose smile.

"We? I didn't know you were sticking around. You don't typically," Jennie pointed out with a hint of a grimace. Her look of disgust more directed at her choice of words than anyone.

"You really need to work on your people skills Jennie. Seems like you've been running solo for too long," she pointed out with a laugh. It was no lie that Jennie had bad people skills. But she didn't think they'd get any worse.

"But you're right. But typically one of our own doesn't die," She said staring at Jennie with a subtle glare before grabbing the two of them and warping them into the hotel.

She knew what that look meant. Jisoo didn't always need to use her powers to convey her point. She wanted her to be honest with everyone soon otherwise she'd tell them herself.

Rosé couldn't help but hear her phone ring as they were dragged through space. It was honestly the prettiest thing whenever Jisoo warped them anywhere. A space of purple-tinged reality with stars in hues of purple she could never explain.

Little did she notice her phone slip out into the pocket space. The thin veil between spaces in reality.

It clattered to the floor back where Jisoo had initiated the warp. It's caller ID showing the name Detective Jeon.
