Melting (Minayeon)
A Pretty Girl Next To A Pretty GirlThe ice cream in Mina's hand was sweet. It was creamy and cool in the face of a warm summer day and she her dessert slowly, savoring each melty bite.
"You're so slow when you eat," Nayeon laughed. She sat beside Mina on the park bench, her fingers gently intertwined with Mina's free hand. Nayeon's ice cream cone was long gone now, devoured in an instant. With nothing left to do as Mina ate, Nayeon merely sat on the bench and gazed at Mina fondly, her head propped against her arm on the bench's backrest. Nayeon's fingers drummed out a tune of impatience on the back of her hand, but Mina knew that Nayeon would wait a lifetime for her to finish her ice cream, if that's what it took.
In response to Nayeon's observation, Mina her ice cream languidly, her actions slowing deliberately, knowing from years of practiced teasing that her belligerence would drive Nayeon mad. And as Nayeon scrunched up her nose at Mina, her eyes narrowing into an affectionate and dangerous glare, Mina merely kicked up her legs and continued to her ice cream with a smile.
There was something comforting about the way that everything seemed to stay steady as the years of friendship between them grew. There were patterns of behavior never ever changed, like how Nayeon always waited for Mina without fail and how they always held hands no matter what they did. How they shared mugs of hot chocolate during the winters, and how hot summer days were for ice cream on their favorite park bench. How Nayeon always ate quickly, devouring her ice cream recklessly, risking brain freeze with big bites, and yet she rushed in head first anyway. How Mina always ate slowly, her actions taken much more cautiously, no risk whatsoever in the careful way she ate.
People always questioned why they were best friends when their personalities were opposi
