how the heckie

our recipe for happiness

Jeongyeon never had any plans, sure she was organised and kept her things clean but if you were to ask her what she would be doing five years from now she wouldn't be able to answer you. So, when a young grumpy teenage Jeongyeon was sent to college to study buisiness she went along with it. It wasn't what she wanted to do but she didn't know what else to do either. She always was sort of a free spirit, living life to the fullest, money never was a priority for her but ironically she was studying all about money and how to get it in every possible way. She wanted scream, to yell in anger, to speak and to be heard. That's when she joined the band

Initially the band was just her and her bandmates goofing around, making covers of popular songs. Then she started writing her own songs, her very first song was written for her long time crush and then girlfriend- Im Nayeon. As much as she made fun of her, Jeongyeon loved Nayeon with all her heart. Though they broke up, Jeongyeon continued writing love songs, some she wrote with Nayeon in mind, others she wrote after random one night stands. Two years into university, resentment started to get to Jeongyeon- she felt like she was being pushed into something she wasn't destined to do. She wrote songs of rage and anger. Of how much she hated the world. Love didn't exist for her anymore, she would party recklessly, drink excessively, cause a scene by drunkenly singing at random karaoke's. In the beggining of her third year, she got into an accident. And as she laid in hospital bed, her fractured arm resting by her side, she told her parents exactly how she felt. They consoled her, told her she could do whatever she wanted in life and that they would always support her. She had recieved many notes while she was in the hospital, but one particular note saved her. Among all the 'get well soon' notes, there was one note that said

"I know you're hurting and that you feel like you can't help it but I also know that you have the strength in you to overcome your pain. You don't have to do it alone, we're all here with you- your family, friends and even me- a complete stranger who admires your work. You are amazing Yoo Jeongyeon. Always remember that.

P.S. I love your voice"

That note was exactly what Jeongyeon needed at that time. She felt like a mountain had been lifted off her shoulders. Midway during her third year, Jeongyeon turned into a completely different person. She started working hard though she didn't like what she was studying and she faired so well that her professor asked her to tutor a fellow student who was doing buisness as their minor (though they would spend most of their time going out for food). She started writing love songs again but this time it wasn't for any girl she dated. This time she only wrote about her friends girlfriend, a girl she never met but heard a lot about. Sure, she saw the girl once or twice but Jeongyeon knew her only through her friend Momo's words. Mina. She wrote nine love songs for a girl she had never met. Although most of her songs were very popular, the songs she wrote and sang for this girl blew up. She was approached by several production companies but she decided against it. Music was something that relieved her from the stress of this world, she didn't want to turn that into her profession.

Jeongyeon graduated with a job in hand, being pushed into the world way too fast. She told herself she would give it a try till the time she could figure out what exactly she wanted to do. Gone were the days of writing songs and talking to old friends. She could feel herself turn into a robot, slowly forgetting what being alive felt like. She continued doing her job for two whole years, earning so much that she didn't have to bother about constantly checking her bank balance. One day she sat at home and went through her old things, unable to recollect the names of the people she once was close with. But that's when she found it, the note. Right at the peak of her career, she decided to quit her job. She travelled, explored new places and with new places she explored new food. And that was when she found her passion.

She always did have a knack for baking but she didn't give it much thought. She started with baking small things for her friends. And then friends of her friends. And then to more people. That's when she decided to have a bakery of her own. At age twenty five, she invested in a tiny little bakery in the middle of Seoul which became so popular that queues of people would extend all the way into the next street. Now she's twenty seven, happier than she had ever been. She bought a bigger place for her bakery, space which she can design accroding to her vision. She contacted Tamashii, an interior design firm that was well known for its simple yet elegant designs and decided to spend the rest of her day relaxing, enjoying the colorful carnival when...

When two tiny kids ordered her to carry them around and help find their mommy and their "Chaengie"

"So, where exactly did you guys get separated from your mom?" Jeongyeon asks as she walks straight

"There was a balloon shop nearby" Yuki replies

"I saw an ostrich balloon. It was this big" Rei says, exaggerating the 'this' by spreading her small arms as wide as she could while being carried by Jeongyeon. Jeongyeon smiles at the little girl and she beams right back at her

"I think it was here" Yuki says doubtfully

Meanwhile, right around the bend Chaeyoung was going into full panic mode. Chaeyoung is Mina's college friend and handles the creative department of the firm, making new (sometimes whacky) designs which surely turn out to be amazing. If there was one thing she loved more than designing new buildings, it was Mina's adorable little munchkins. This wasn't the first time she went out with the family, Mina and Chaeyoung always make sure to keep Yuki and Rei close whenever they go out together. Except this time, Mina went to recieve a call from a client and Rei escaped in a blink of an eye, Yuki following to rescue her little sister. And Chaeyoung was losing her mind because the carnival is crowded and the kids are too small, god Chaeyoung could never forgive herself for this. When Mina came back Chaeyoung rambled out the entire situation

"Calm down Chaeng. We need to go find them, now is not the time to panic" Mina's tome is calm but her teary eyes say otherwise

"I don't think they could've gotten very far and Yuki is smart. We just need to find where you last saw them" Mina says as the start walking and looking around

"Maybe we should make an announcement" Jeongyeon suggest to the kid on her shoulders, not noticing Rei, who made herself comfortable by completely leaning against Jeongyeon and holding onto her jacket

"Yeah" Yuki says with a dissappointed voice but as soon as Jeongyeon takes a step forward, a familiar face catches Yuki's eye "MOMMY!" she shouts and points to the right. Jeongyeon notices a frantic looking woman making her away towards them and starts walking towards her after asking Yuki

In no time the two adults are close to each other, Jeongyeon can feel Yuki lightly bouncing on her shoulder as she keeps calling out to her mom. When the mom is close enough, Jeongyeon bends a little and the mom scoops Yuki into her arms- holding her close and kissing her cheeks while the other shorter woman tries to take Rei from Jeongyeon's arms. Keyword: tries, because for some odd reason Rei seems to be clinging to Jeongyeon

"Yuki-chan, Rei-chan, are you both alright? Don't run off like that!" The mom says in a panicked voice

"Rei-chan is sorry mommy" Rei says as she lightly sniffles into Jeongyeon's jacket, causing all three adults to look at her and try to comfort her

The mom steps closer, the older kid still in her arms, and she gently pats and rubs Rei's back "Sh baby, don't cry. Mommy was just very concerned about you. Please don't let go of Chaeng like that" the mom comforts her. Jeongyeon notices how loving the mom is, the lady is on the verge of crying as she holds her elder daughter close and tries to comfort the younger, who is now clinging to Jeongyeon even tighter. Rei turns to her mom with her cute little pout

"Aw come here baby" Mina says as she gently takes Rei from the strangers arms and pecks her daughters tiny little nose

With both her children safe in her arms, Mina finally notices the woman in front of her. The one who brought her daughters to her. Realising this, Mina rushes to thank her. The pink haired lady just smiles and says it's no big deal before she says she has to leave, giving one last wave to the two little girls.

For the first time in a long time, Jeongyeon's heart feels warm. A selfish part of her wishes she could've stayed longer with the two cute girls but the agony and the relief she saw in their mother's eyes told her that it was time for her to leave. She went back to her old bakery, the tiny one in the middle of the city, in which crowd started to build already. She spends a little time inside the kitchen, checking on everything and then comes back outside, checking the display and talking to the customers dying to talk to her. She hears a familiar cute little voice again

"Look mama! Pretty pink lady" Jeongyeon turns around to see Rei in her moms arms along with Yuki. She smiles and goes closer to the family

"Hi again, you cuties" she says to the kids "Sorry, if I seemed rude at the carnival. I had to rush here" Jeongyeon gestures to the bakery

"Oh I completely understand, you weren't rude. And this place tends to get too crowded if you aren't on time. Everything in here tastes crazy good" the mom says. Jeongyeon leads the family to a table as they talk, Yuki sitting next to her mom and Rei sitting on her moms lap

"Thank you" Jeongyeon smiles at the mom's confused expression, Jeongyeon leans in a little and whispers "I own this place" She leans back and smiles at the woman

"You-You're Yoo" the mom sounds shocked

"Allow me to properly introduce myself, I am Yoo Jeongyeon" Jeongyeon lightly bows. The lady smiles a cute gummy smile and damn she looks really beautiful

"Nice to meet you Yoo Jeongyeon, I am Myoui Mina"

"Woah" It's Jeongyeon's turn to be shocked "Don't tell me you are the head of Tamashii"

"Okay, I won't tell you I'm the head of Tamashii" Mina smiles even brighter as Jeongyeon looks baffled

"I called you this morning!" Jeongyeon smiles

"Well, it seems like we were destined to meet" Mina jokes
